BOSS GT 1000 vs Line 6 Helix vs Headrush vs Mooer GE 300: which is the best modeler of a VOX AC30?

- With this video we will compare these 700 - 1000 pedalboards that are the BOSS GT 1000, the Line 6 Helix LT, the Headrush Pedalboard, the Mooer GE 300 versus one of the most famous tube amp ever made, that is a VOX AC 30, in order to better verify the sound differences between the modelers and to check out which one can get closer to the real deal!
I’ve also done a similar video, but using amp modeling plugins like the BIAS FX 2 and the IK Multimedia Amplitube and if you have seen that video, you know that I was not too much satisfied with the results, so now I’m pretty curious to verify if amp modeling pedalboards can do a better job. Actually, in order to allow us to compare the sound of the pedalboards to the ones of the plugin, I will use the same song and sound tests!

I've watched so many of these comparison videos and i always feel like they each have their own strong and weak points but they all sound really good. The comments are what get me. Sure, using UA-cam as a reference of some sort is ok but unless you're in the room with these units to not only hear, but feel how they respond to your playing , is THE only true test! I think the GT-1000 sounded the best NOT because it sounded like the Vox but because it just sounded GOOD doing it's own thing and that's what i hear on other comparison videos....it's sounds good doing it's own thing and that's what i like about it! Make your own good-sounding tone based on what you create not on what you're trying to replicate! Plus the GT-1000 has a higher sample rate and seamless switching between channels ...no sound gap!! That is a major selling point to me!! That's all i got..well..i have a lot more but i'll just leave it at that! lol

Hello Leo. congratulations for the video. very good. in my opinion, the pedalboard rank was with the Helix more similar, Headrush and Ge300, the Boss GT1000, I found the sound a bit low for Vox AC30. Between the pedalboards and plugins, the pedals are much better. Again, very good comparison videos. We are still waiting for the launch of the Zoom G11.

Thank you Leo, I love all your videos. In this case I think headrush did a good job in any configuration, while the others lacks here and there. It's a pity because I am a big fan of BOSS and I am playing now with the Waza Air headset who has some incredible tones. I'll wait your recommendation because I need a pedalboard. Ciao!

A really very, very good comparison (it would even have been better when you had put the real Vox more times between the simulated Voxes, because coming by the Mooer the sound of the original Vox is somewhat repressed in my mind due to all other sounds of the devices), but what is your own opinion? You heard the sound of the devices directly from the speakers. So that gives a better point for judgement.

Hi Leo, great videos! I'm a BOSS GT-1000 user and what I had said on Facebook pages related to it is that it's more a matter of being able to handle several variables including gear and musicians to get the ”suiting in the mix” and “to be able to get what you’re looking for in almost every situation” concepts rather than replicate exactly the amp sound as it is. I have been able to get really good tones from the GT-1000 using EQ techniques and that was after reading, watching videos and experimenting a lot with backing tracks of the songs I like. I can say for that people that think it must be something like "plug and play" that it will never work like that even if they spend a lot of money in gear like Fractal o similars because tweaking will always be needed. Learn about EQs, Hz, spectrum and others and you will be able to master the thing!

Im not sure which i prefer, the sound differs quite significally depending on use of IR or built in speaker emulation in this video. I do think i actually prefer all of the modelers with IR to the original VOX AC 30 with IR, that said its probably mostly a question of EQ, i noticed that especially the GT-1000 seem to benefit from the use of IR´s in this video at least. I would put the GE300 last.

I was curious for this one since, in my opinion the AC30 is one of the hardest amps to model. To me the GT-1000 with the IR sounded the closest to the real thing (eve more so than the real thing with the IR). That being said, I don't think any of the pedalboards did a spectacular job, honestly.

I always look forwards to your comparisons en beautiful playing. Since you played them all and know how to use them, I was wondering, what is your choice out off al these pedalboards, what is the easiest to work with for a starter in guitar playing so you only need that pedal and no “real” amplifier and pedals. To me all the tested sound good, but are they easy to use.? Please you 2 cents

I Would like to use it without any amps or pedals, as a total solution. So sound quality is important, as is easy to use in live situations so I can Use it for a long time and become an intermediate 😃
Now I saw more video’s of you with new modelers witch makes it even harder. Since I’m a starter, easy to use is important for me. You used them all, Therefore I’m interested in your opinion. Please youre 2 cents.

I need to admit that Helix is better than the GT-1000 for amp sound and overall best in this shootout for amp sounds. It is almost equal to the real amp. However, Boss GT still sounds good for lead and has the best effects IMHO. For that reason, I would still prefer to own the Boss over anything else here. That Bias FX was extremely accurate. Thanks for such a deep dive comparison.
I could agree with that, what do you use personally? I have an hx stomp and I’d say the ac 30 is a good model but the boss gt-1000 I feel like does the Marshall sounds better. It’s kind of a give and take but I’d also say the hx does drive pedals better but the effects on the boss are unrivaled.
@@JosePineda-jn8jk I own a GT-1, ME-80, an old Boss GT-6, and a VG-99. I still like my line 6 pod x3 and M5, but I sold my pod xt live because I had too much old gear. I cant blame anyone for preferring either line 6 or boss because they are 2 different animals in the same zoo. I do think each has it's own benefits and I am split over getting a boss gt1000 or the new line 6 hx stomp. I am leaning toward the gt1000 because of boss effects and the large number of patch memories. Rock on!
@@64north20west If you are considering Line 6 stuff, there is the new POD Go as well which has the same amp modeling and effects as Helix. I have been using Boss gear for about 35 years now, the only Line 6 stuff i have ever owned is a wireless that i still have, but i have had my eye on the POD go as well as the GT-1000.

Agus G.T. Well if that’s all you ever want to use then that’s great 😀👍🏽 but for the rest of us I’d say most were usable but, helix sounded on point followed by the headrush in my opinion. Like any of the dudes back in the day though I’d play whatever I have access to and just learn learn learn!

They all sound fine, except the Bias VST which didn't sound like anything, just a standard clean on a good quality solid state amp. Nothing like an AC30.
All of them did a good job, but to my ears the Boss sounds killer.

Helix / headrush / ge Labs in à nuttshell. The others are far behind on this very one. (very surprised by the gt1000 wich sounds too full of mids and high mids)

Headrush sounds best to me. But, non of them realy come close the sound of the original. Especially that bottom end together with the sparkling highs the original amp has is lacking in al simulations.

The Helix was Clean......sounding.......the Headrush was a close second...it wasnt as cliean but had a more full range of sounding nuiances....I could hear the hii....low ...and mids....evenly!

Very interestng. NONE came very close. I think the Headrush and Mooer came the closest to the buttery saturation. Put a gun to my head I'd pick the Mooer. None of the plugins could satisfy but amplitube or GE labs were OK.
Solution: Buy a GE 300 *and* an AC30.
This is disappointing because I thought the AC30 sim in the Mooer GE100 was pretty good for its price range, so I expected the GE300 to do better. I'm most disappointed in the Helix. It sounded watery and thin compared to the real thing.

In my opinion, there is no pedalboard that matches the sound in this video. Maybe the Helix with a little equalization is more like the real one. But I didn't like any emulator.

The GT-1000 really came alive with the IRs which mirrors my experiences. The Headrush sounded the best, the Helix and GE sounded the worst overall.

Mooer GE 300 and Amplitube sound the closest to the sound of the original amplifier, the Headrush is very close as well, Boss gt1000 sounds more digital, and the Helix sounds too bright in my opinion.
