I feel like for the cost of the additional wood, time and bookcases you could probably have sturdier, real built in bookcases. We did the same thing and the particular board Ikea shelves have bowed, the edges on some of the shelves(where the tv sits in the center) have started to peel. It’s just super cheap quality for a ton of time and money. It was nice to have the experience, but if I did it again I would use higher quality bookcases.
For us it saved us thousands of dollars and was 100% worth it. We did it for under $1000 six years ago and ours still look brand new. Would do it over again in a second.
These bookcases were definitely NOT made to hold a television. The bookcases are fine for not such heavy things. Doing this yourself saves you sooo much money so it’s up to you what is worth more. I asked for a quote for my smallest closet to have shelves put in, $3000 was my price. For putting shelves on a wall. It’s extortion!
We did ours several years ago when the price of materials were substantially cheaper and didn’t keep a record of it. However, I would estimate it to be around $1000.
This is so nice and very uniquely done!
No one would have ever known this was from a bike book shelves inspired

I’m glad you like it! Thanks 😊
Where is the link to your tutorial? Nice work.
Great job! I'm not DIY savvy so paid for a custom bookcase which cost EUR 1900
Thanks so much!!
👍👍👍
It is beautiful. I like the light but not for this book case.
Thanks so much!!
what about the electric sockets behind it?

What screws did you use to secure to wall?
The lights should surely be over each bookcase - not in between them?
You could most definitely do that! We preferred 3 as 4 was too busy looking for us!
@@thesommerhome I guess - but the lights don't actually shine onto the contents of the bookcases, which is surely the whole point of them?
@@sallyannc3176 the lights definitely shine on the entire bookcase!
What doors did you use?
How did you secure the bookcases? Was it to the base you built, or into the all behind it?
Both! Secured to both with L brackets.
Where is the link zu your Website?
Did you purchase the doors or make them? If you purchased, where can I buy them?
They are IKEA doors.
How much cost for it,?please tell me,😊
We did ours several years ago when the price of materials were substantially cheaper and didn’t keep a record of it. However, I would estimate it to be around $1000.
How big was the base? Width and height?
Details about the size of the wall & how tall we built the base here:

Why fake wood.
.
Billy bookcases from IKEA are the cheapest and worst cabinets you can possibly buy!!!! Do NOT waste your money! They’re terrible!!!!!!!
Thanks for weighing in on this. We love ours and have since 2016 when we put them in! Definitely not for everyone but a great option for some of us!
