I'm a pessimist when it comes to German extraordinary cutting edge technology of WW2. Much of it was too advanced in concept to be workable. The Lippisch P13 utilized powdered coal as the fuel supply. The proposed principle followed that of a rocket engine. A nozzle would spray the powdered coal through an ignition point, causing a continuous flash explosion. There would have been so many problems with the powdered coal not feeding into the ignition chamber smoothly and consistently. Problems would have arisen with the fuel powder clumping up due to moisture. Finally who knows if the exploding coal powder would have been powerful enough to propel the delta fighter?
I think it would work, but it wouldn't solve the problem. Germany had a fighter to protect it from bombers - me-262, which has much longer range and had 4 30-mm guns. The problem was numbers, mostly because Hitler was in idiot(not only in this, he should have allied Baltics, Poland Finland and Romania and fought a defensive war against USSR, with subsequent invasion when the Soviet army would have been weakened and demoralized) and forced to make it into fighter-bomber instead of interceptor initially.
The strange 'dirty tint' on the face of the armored glass seems to become readily apparent only under certain angles of illumination. It would be better to have this texture not vary so enormously in intensity, but rather exhibit at least a somewhat more uniform behaviour. This likely results from just a single texture, combined with the .mat file parameters. Adding a second identical set of polygons on top of those existing, and reversing the surface normals for these new vertices, would go a long way toward rendering improved uniformity. This is what I do for my tinted armor glass mods, so that the tint intensity not vary so much as the direction of the illumination source moves about. But then, this would apply to the plane cockpit from which this is taken; the Me-163. Did the Lippitsch have installed such an armored glass plate? If not, perhaps it should be removed from this 'Franken' 'pit adaptation. Cheers! Glenn (aka WxTech)
@@timonsolus Armored glass need not be outside facing. In a number of instances it was mounted inside, behind the perspex. Off the top of my head, some planes where this was done: - Me-163 - F6F-3 - early P-38s - later A6M5s - P-40B/C - J2M - some LaGG and LA
One can thank Dr. Lippisch for all his experiments with airplane wings. And then after WW2 started working for Convar and built the F-102, F-106 and B-58 Hustler. Then Dr. Lippsch must have been in contact with the brothers Horten and Nothrop who were also working on flying wings. Dr. Lippisch must be the pure dream to meet as a person in private and at work and know so much in his subject as flying wings, in other words Germany and the USA should be very happy about Dr. Lippisch what he accomplished in aviation, by that I mean a lot. That was cool. Takes me back to the days of the Lerche.
Strangest looking plane coming out of Germany yet, hell it doesn’t even look like a plane to begin with
Have you seen the heinkel lerche ?
The real thing was the Saab Draken 20 years later.

Agreed - that plane would not have an armoured windscreen, as armoured glass back then had to be flat.

Ju390 next?
Please, or the 290. Amazed nobody's modeled either yet, it's not as if they were rare aircraft, over 60 were made.

yes MG 213
Probably two, MK 108 30mm cannons. The Germans learned two 30mm cannons were sufficient to bring down a heavy, four engine bomber.
