This mission proves that, while amazing technology, the Me-163 was utterly useless. You can't hope to stop a flight of american bombers with a couple rocket planes. If it wasn't so experimental and expensive, and you had 10-20 per flight? Then yes, it would've changed the air war. But it was too little, too late. Still, very impressive technology. Nothing you can say about it's lack of strategic and tactical impact can take away from how awesome it is. The flaming airfield with the scattered airplane parts and the american fighters overhead while the lone rocket plane skids along the ground is a perfect metaphor for it as a whole haha
Agree with the starting comment, by the time of arrival it really did not in a longer run matter if it was 1-2 or 10-10 of those. The bombing raids were coming at hundreds of bombers and there was no way to impact the source of those - British airfields. Doomed. Nice piece of desperate engineering from Germans.

It was funny to watch this, the Allied pilots in the bombers trying to shoot down the Komet look like a bunch of primitive people using bows and arrows trying to shoot down a modern jet fighter.
I've always wondered why they didn't just adapt the airframe to fit the pulse jet engine from the V1. A couple of air intakes and its the same basic layout. The pulse jet had a much longer engine life than their jet engines at the time and in such an airframe the performance would likely be very similar though the extra weight would affect it glide performance when the engine shut off.
V1 engines were really, really loud. Messerschmitt actually experimented with using them to power a plane, but it was not only unbearable for the pilot, but also it made the airframe crack.
Nice to see aggressive use of "The Power Egg." Mind you, it's really hard to use effectively and it has less combat radius than a dodo (actually 7.5 minutes). Crack British test pilot Eric Brown is the apparently only non-German we know of to fly the Komet on rocket power (after the helpful German crew had him sign a disclaimer) and said it's climb after takeoff was like being in charge of a runaway freight train. It landed quite smoothly after showing excellent dive capabilities with the engine shutdown, and everyone had "a" drink afterward. Personally I would have drunk myself silly after flying the darn thing. The flight, incidentally, was completely unauthorized. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messerschmitt_Me_163_Komet
@@Derpy-qg9hn The japanese 'knock off' was the ohka (spelling definitely incorrect 😂) flying bomb. It was a piloted rip off of the V1 though, not the 163. They did have their own version of the 262 though, called the Nakajima kika.
It turns out that the Komet really could stay up for up to 24 minutes using gliding and intermittent rocket firing. (See USAAC 163 Komet briefing film)
can I ask what your in game trackir settings are? when I try to look behind me like you do, it sort of "bounces" back away from the canopy after a second. It only happens in 1946.
Can you tell me your Input settings for your joystick? I have the same one (Logitech Extreme 3d), but my movements are jerky. Very difficult to try and and make slight adjustments when aiming. Thanks in advance.
There was anecdotally curious battle within Third Reich. While Hitler pressed for fast bomber, Luftwaffe HQ, led by decorated fighter aces, insisted on fighter planes designs. Hitler aimed on cutting allied supply early after the landfall while avoiding countermeasures from overwhelming allied fighter cover, when they relied on temporary piers in Normandy, while aces wanted more wins. At some point Hitler ordered to stop all progress on fighters focusing what's left of the resources on blitz bombers. AFAIK the order was largely sabotaged or came too late to make a difference
Me 163 komets did shoot down some american b17 bombers near end of ww2, however their success was limited by small numbers, their dangerous rocket fuel, and allied air supremacy. Me 163s had influence on future jet aircraft like the me 262
From the references I've seen, starting and stopping the rocket engine was a recipe for disaster, given the volatility of the fuel and the problems w/QC on the engine. 50/50 you restart the engine and go boom. So typical mission was straight up through the bomber formation for one pass and then straight down through the formation when the power climb ended with rocket shut off. Remember the bombers are at 25,000 feet so 5 minutes of fuel gives you a rapid climb, positioning for an attack and that's it. Don't know how you got so much out of the fuel load. Game glitch?
As much as it is great and it was. Lack of resources in the end was always going to be a deciding factor. My family lived through the war on the German side and it ripped our family apart.
I like the suspenseful silence when the engine is shut off for the dive.
Such an efficient flyer... Amazing work from engineer Lippisch. Great flying!
Interesting and amazing how the game takes into account the doppler effect on the sound of the bombers as you maneuver around them.
This gave me some serious ace combat 5 vibes and I love it to pieces

Synystr7 what do you mean 10-20?
10 to 20 Me-163s in a flight attacking a bomber flight. Instead of 1 or 2.

Bro Floyd that's quite a planning, 16th of September, right?
Should’ve just replaced the wings with blades and turn into a flying rocket knife
Enjoyed the 163 more than ever, you do have quiet the knack for doing it the way we all would. Bravo, man. Nicely Done ~

Well it's not a jet, but a rocket 🤓

Yeah or use the rocket engine to get a pulse jet up to speed

Weren't there captured Soviet komets, plus the Japanese knock-offs?

one of my favorites, your timing is spot on
Fantastic Video ! I am building a radio controlled model of the Komet. Your presentation is better than blueprints.
bone chilling accuracy, respect!
By far one of the quietest mission yet
Nice flight mate!
0:25 "s-s-Sunday driver..."
Excellent landing , with an aircraft that is not the easiest to get down on the runway !
I can’t wait to fly one of these! Rc of course haha 😂
Does anyone know what the long projection on the left wing of the Me-163 is for?
A pitot tube used to measure airspeed, I believe
Great video!
0:17 Damn it, Roberth!
I'm innocent! :P
Well done!
Wonder how it would fly with a swing wing setup? Klockwerk wing.
First attack at 4:20?
Nice.

Так держать!
Fishyyy, do the 4.13.4 have this map or I must install it?
You have to install it.
Impressive this Me 163 Komet for this era! The P-51s coud not keep up! 👏😘
They could on landing. Ask the 262, it will tell ya.
@@Minong_Manitou_Mishepeshu Even a biplane could keep up on landing. Big deal.
And that's why they got shot down landing, rarely air to air buddles. Don't get it twisted.

Me 163 had a fuel for 9 min of flight. They shot down 2-4 bombers on one flight. Problems is short combat radius/
if the Germans even could you can air drop them for more range to not have to climb
time is fuel !!
Gotta go fast!

I'm glad
Pls macchi 205 vs b17s plsssss
air to air re-fuel?
No chance, these things were dangerous enough to fuel on the ground lol
If they didn’t explode on takeoff first lol
good ol 8mins of fuel

잘보고갑니다. :)
wow the ending is like wtf
unlimited fuel?
n
flight time was about 8 min
I ran out of fuel and had to glide back.
but you flew for more than 20 minutes, and the real plane is no more than 8 minutes

INCREDIBLE MACHINE'S 😒g
Its the me 163 kommet
Wonder. How. They. Went. To. The. Restroom. Went. Flying. For. Long. Time. Like. Going. Number. 1. And. Number. 2.
P-51s for example had a hose for number 1. For number 2, you are tough out of luck. There were preparations for it on bombers, though.
you can do it in war thunder if you last long ehough it will take awhile.
WT is full of shite and allies/ruskies bias!
its free n fun with a great computer of course.
