    My opinion is that the Horten 229 V3 is the coolest plane ever built. I wrote a letter to the Smithsonian back in the early 90’s asking when they were going to restore the plane. They said within ten years. Since that time they have robbed the instruments from the cockpit!

    Excellent animation and reproduction of what would be seen in the cockpit, really incredible that the Germans had what was in effect a primitive b2 flying so long ago, it just looks absolutely right, just had to wait six decades for materials technology to catch up with its advanced design.

    This is such an awesome plane and an awesome flight simulator. The graphics and sound are much better than in SWOTL, in which I could fly the Ho 229 (back then called Go 229). The smoke at 1:36 looks like a Me 163 Komet were starting, the smooth takeoff at 1:50, the phenomenal climbing rate, the beautifuul sunlight scene at 4:52. And the powerful jet sound at 3:22 reminds me of the landing scene in "Prometheus" movie.

    A formation of Horten 229's is what Kenneth Arnold saw flying over the cascade mountains in 1947 to which he coined the phrase flying saucers and the rest is history !

    • @FiveCentsPlease
      @FiveCentsPlease 6 років тому +4

      +Robert Starkings No 229 ever flew and the program never got passed the V1 thru V6. Only the smaller V1 and V2 prototypes flew in Germany. Arnold must have seen something else.

      There are two flaps on the top part of the wings that act as a rudder. I think the B-2 spirit uses something similar

    • @BFGfreak
      @BFGfreak 10 років тому

      ***** I actually was reading about the flying wings, and Jack Northrop, the founder of the company which created the B2, also created a flying wing that was stable. The stability problems arose when he tried upscaling his N-1 fighter sized flying wing to the bomber sized YB-35. I guess aerodynamics are funny like that.

    Wenn die Horten wirklich noch zum Einsatz gekommen wäre hätten die Deutschen doch noch den Atombomben Abwurf erlebt.

    • @martinmaier352
      @martinmaier352 5 років тому +1

      Hätte, wäre, würde...zu einer Zeit einer einsatzbereiten Horten hätte es bereits, abgesehen von den unzähligen Düsenflugzeugen, soviele Fla-Raketen (Wasserfall, Enzian etc.) gegeben, daß nicht einmal eine Möwe ungestört nach Deutschland hätte einfliegen können, geschweige denn ein Atombombenträger. Da war beim Ende der Kampfhandlungen soviel in der Pipeline, daß es sich da für die Alliierten wirklich nur knapp ausging. Gut, daß Hitler soviele Fehler gemacht hatte, die V2, die Me 262 als Schnellbomber etc., etc.

    Using a high speed (and presumably high altitude) fighter aircraft against low-medium altitude fighter and medium bomber aircraft is a waste of scarce resources. Get up after the city- and factory-destroying high altitude heavy bombers!

      So much for the "1000 Km/hour" fighter/bomber aircraft. Although 977 Km/Hour at 12,000 meters is the top estimate:

      @goldfing5898 Рік тому

      @@R3dp055um The speed is not displayed in the bottom left corner, but in the bottom right corner of the cockpit. Initially it is quite low due to the acceleration and climbing phase, but look at the seconds after 5:50 and 8:50 in fullscreen mode. The yellow needle climbs to 800 km/h (about 500 mph) and more.

    • @goldfing5898
      @goldfing5898 Рік тому

      @@Otokichi786 See my other response (speed reaches 800 km/h after about 6 minutes and 9 minutes). The Germans certainly not would have installed two Jumo 004 jet engines into the Horten IX glider, just to reach only 600 km/h (400 mph) like a piston-engined fighter. Remember they did install the same two Jumo 004 engines in the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter, which reached 870 km/h in level flight. Even the Arado Ar 234 jet bomber reached about 700-800 km/h (depending on bomb load or reconnaissance equipment) using two Jumo 004 jet engines.
