Hilarious video Dukely. Your comments about being on fire made me laugh out loud! Just bought the 1946 edition through Steam and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my new Joystick, before I settle down to play. I owned Pacific Fighters back in the day and so I have a good idea about what to expect. I'm dreading the whole 'carrier take off thing' so thanks for the heads up
The "dynamic" careers are kinda lame, but at least it has the option. I think there are only two flight sims with fully modelled campaign environments and this isn't one. As for Prop Pitch, think of it as gears in a car. Higher prop pitch is like low gear.. use it at lower speeds and when you're climbing. When you're cruising along at high speeds, you can lower it some so it produces less drag and just adds enough pull to keep you going fast. Like high gear. As for flaps, keep them up when cruising. They slow you down. They are for when you're at low speed because they produce more lift at the expense of speed. If you're getting slow in a turn fight you can drop them some to lower your stall limits, with the added side effect that you can pull smaller circles at lower speeds (getting inside an enemy's turning circle ideally).
If you have to re-center your rudder, then you're using the trim instead of the regular rudder controls. Also.. you probably want to check whether you need to open/close the radiator if your engine is overheating.
Hi there (im a real pilot), the trim is to regulate the elevator, not the rudder. Overheating comes probably because you weren't controlling "prop pitch" controls. That works more or less like the gears in a car. To take off you start with prop pitch 100%, which is like going in first gear. After take off you need regulate prop pitch to about 85% (depends of type of plane) and start to reduce it when you get more airspeed. Try more! IL2 is amazing simulator. Install some mods for better graphics and sounds. Keep it on!
Nico Fuhrmann go to the cup website, all 3 (not including) the golden age is like a 50 gig download and will take you for fucking ever but trust me it's worth it... for tutorials there's a couple on UA-cam to download CUP.
"Matsuba, Yamashita, Duke! You're going on a mission!"
*soldier creeps next to the officer*
"Captain, I think the new guy might be a spy..."
man u gotta open the radiator to cool it down and put ur throttle to 90%

"Heiso" (兵曹) is a rank, as well as "Sho-sa" (少佐) :)
+dokabenmonth Good to know!
Late as well, but you didn't break the plane. F4F shot you down, you can even see the tracers and hear the hits on the video.

A bit late to the party but those aren't names, they're ranks. Joto Heiso is Chief Petty Officer, and Sho-sa is Major.
Yes, it wasn't what you would call thought through. Still, there's nothing that deals with human nature quite the way BSG does.
that was a long career xD

You're name is obviously pronounced "do kay" in the campaign, like how kaze is pronounced "ka zay".
There, it's Japanese now. Immersion intact.
I was so hoping for the Zuikaku on the carrier list.
Hey Dukely, I just found your channel and you seem like a good commentator. I subscribed and I hope you keep up the good work!
No problem!

im not gonna watch the vid cus you skiped pearl harbor .-.
If you were in Australia I'd send you my old Logitech stick Dukely, it's so much easier to fly with the twist rudder. Have you considered trying one?
Good video you just earned a sub
I got this game and all you do is watch planes shoot things
just subbed mate nice
cheers mate
Yay :D
Have you considered using the great war mod?
No no, as in the mod that Jefmajor used in his lets play. Its a very large expansion that supersizes the game and makes it a ton more fun.
I think I do. Its been a while/
