  • So, here is how they handled the French joke in both of the French dubs! I added subtitles on the French dubs with the translation.
Again, because of copyright, I had to shorten the video. So, I decided to split this scene into three parts. The two other parts will come soon.
Some dubs used the English version when Aziraphale speaks in French and others tried to speak in French themselves.
Here are the ones that I think did the best job in French: German, Spanish (Spain), Italian, Dutch and Portuguese (Portugal).
I love how in Dutch, Azi says “formidable” instead of “excellent”. ^^
    What are your personal favourites?
Thank you for watching! I'll be posting more multilanguage videos soon, so stay tuned!

Oh, seeing what they did with this scene in both French dubs is so interesting, thank you :D Dutch transcript + translation:
Aziraphale: Eh, eh- bonjour, Justine! Eh, eh, ehm- pardonnez-moi, mais, mais- ehm... / Uh, uh- bonjour, Justine! Uh, uh, uhm- pardonnez-moi, mais, mais- uhm...
Justine: Meneer Faal, ik kan u prima verstaan. Ik woon hier nu al vijftien jaar! / Mr Fell, I can understand you just fine. I've been living here for fifteen years!
Aziraphale: Formidabel! Eh, formidable. / Formidable! Uh, formidable.
Love the little "formidable" twist they did there too :) Can I ask, as a native French speaker, what do you think of the joke that Aziraphale can speak all languages except French?
    😆

I find very funny that Aziraphale absolutely wants to try to speak French, but cannot! As I first watched the series in French, I didn't even know about the French joke at all. 😄

Isn't it confusing when Aziraphale's voice suddenly changes when he speaks French?
