In 1988 in Trieste, I paid 200 German marks for a *Sanyo* portable cassette player-walkman. More precisely, my parents bought it for me. Even back in 1982, I was "infected" with a gramophone, I remember how as a kid I was amazed that the same sound could be heard directly from the gramophone stylus, only much quieter than on the speaker...🤒
I’m using this for the last two weeks. It is amazing! Streaming via Apple Music, Spotify, UA-cam Music, etc is not that different from a smartphone/DAC combination. But, oh man, when you start to play FLAC/DSD/MQA, you’ll reach nirvana! So, keep in mind that if you are going to buy this, you have to invest in buying those very expensive FLAC/DSD/MQA albums. N.B. MSEB is magic in HiBy devices! It is systemwide and noticeably alters the sound to your liking.
@@CoffeeXmusic Close to the reported 15 hours. The standby is also amazing! The battery drains around 1 to 2 percent during the night with wifi and Bluetooth off. These numbers are not encouraging if you compare them to many other DAPs, especially older ones. But you have to understand that this has a very recent SoC (Snapdragon 665) and a very recent OS (Android 12); it will give you a complete smartphone experience with long years of support. I'm very happy with it! With my music-listening habit, I'm charging it once a week.
@@sudipchatterjee oh wow that’s really awesome. I’m looking for one with long playback time. Actually I’m more keen on the R6 pro 2, but seems like it has much shorter playtime.
@@CoffeeXmusic Oh mate, I was hell-bent on getting that, too, like you. But, as you rightly mentioned, that lackluster battery endurance turned me away. Aside from that, I couldn't find any DSD1024 or PCM 1536 files anywhere in the market. The battery capacity is marginally bigger. It also does not have THX amplifiers even at this price. So I decided to save $250 and bought the R6 III. With that saved money, I bought some very good albums, and you know what, it feels like the good old days of cassettes and CDs when we "owned" the music we listened to.

Thank you for this review. I've had a Fiio M11 first gen for years and I love it to listen to my local library. Plus the Poweramp Equaliser is perfect for me. But when I'm streaming music from Deezer, I have a very hard time with the equalizer (no built-in EQ in the Fiio and the third party equalizers make the system bug). So I'm thinking about buying this R6 III to solve these problems. A few interrogations though : 1. On my Fiio M11 I am very used to a specific parametric EQ setting on Poweramp. I wonder if I will be able to find the equivalent setting with the EMDB thing. Is it easy to use ? Isn't there a parametric EQ at all in this machine ? 2. Does the EMDB setting affect the sound of streaming services the same way it does with the local library ? I've had a very hard time EQing Deezer with my Fiio so that's very important for me. 3. On this machine, is the sound quality with streaming services as good as it is with local library flac files ? I'm using Deezer's CD quality option. 4. Is there a security option that prevents the buttons and volume wheel from accidently spinning when the device is in your pocket ? There is such an option on my Fiio and I love it. Thank you so much.
I just picked this up and love it so far! I just need good IEM earphones to really take advantage of this player. Still searching. Right now I am using wired apple earbuds for 16 bucks LOL! But they actually sound really good! The screen head on looks great but side angle viewing is a little compromised considering it's a ISP screen.
is the screen good enough to watch video on I mean if you loaded a bunch of video onto an SD card and installed VLC could you enjoy watching video on it??
Can I connect the R6iii to another DAC device via the type C port, which acts as an audio output? And how to do that? I tried plugging in another DAC, but there was no audio output signal.
Great review, as always @iiWiReviews! How is the digital output compared to Pi2AES, or similar? I'm thinking this (or iBasso) as an alternative to a bit perfect streamer.
I guess it being class A makes it special. I know of only one class A portable dac. The Aune B1S. I don't think it is in production anymore, but still for sale.
Hei! What do you think, is it better than RU6 that I own now thanks to your review? I want to upgrade, not sure to which DAP though. Thinking about Hiby R6 III or DX170/DX200/maybe even DX260 but it is kinda expensive, don't really want to pay that much for a portable device
It was some time ago but as I remembered RU6 sounds warmer but less precise. R6 III provides punchier, quicker, and more revealing sound, but not as warm and relaxed. It should be an upgrade if you don't mind this shift to different tonality.
@@iiWiReviews that's odd, I didn't get the notification from yt. But yeah, I am experimenting with things at the moment and in a search for a best value DAP. I do not care much about reference-neutral sound in my portable setup but RU6 with my almost flat neutral etymotic 4s doesn't pair well enough, especially if fit is loose. So I'm looking for an upgrade to something more 'fun' for outdoors without paying an arm and a leg price!
