I big thank you to Dave for stopping by the Dream Pod 9 booth and taking the time to try a demo of our Heavy Gear Blitz 3.1 Rules. The demo was run by Kilian C. "KC" Landersman, DP9's short stories writer, and this was his first convention running demos, so be kind with any comments. Only two notes about the video, first is be prepared for a few Hollywood actor impressions and second KC used the Orange acrylic blast crippled tokens to represent damage taken. They are normally used to represent when a vehicle is cripple after all its hull points are destroyed. Damage is normally marked with small round damage chips (Green = 1 damage, Yellow = 2 damage, Orange = 3 damage, and Red = 4 damage).
We had a great time down at Historicon 2022 and Dream Pod 9 plans on attending again next summer.

Nice to see the clarifications/corrections in the comments like this. And the impressions were terrible, but it feels like that was half the point of them, so that isn't really a negative. Gives a good picture of the game, and I'm very curious about it now (might find it a bit tricky to get hold of here in New Zealand though!)

@Robert Dubois is an amazing fellow and I'm sure he'll help you out. I am glad you enjoyed this video and it got you interested. There is plenty more Heavy Gear content on this channel but I will warn you it is mostly with older rules sets

There's very little selection for demo/teaching videos on the 3.0 and 3.1 rules, so I am greatly appreciative of this one. And I think both parties really did well in teaching (cheesy Arnie impressions aside).

Glad you enjoyed it! Had a great time doing the demo (and getting stomped)

Looks fun but postage to australia kills it unfortunately. a couple of AU stores with minimal stock/options mean I can't even buy a starter army without going to ebay with international postage.
Will continue to check back on stocks in AU as I would love a couple of armies.

I hate that Australia & New Zealand get screwed so hard on shipping and on Games availability.

@@GamersOnGames it's known (here) as the australia tax, everything is more expensive due to shipping to this island paradise. I will continue with my BT but will wait patiently for dp9 stuff to become more reasonable to get here :) Will only be playing solo anyway.

@@GamersOnGames timberwolf/madcat for posterboy reasons, marauder from first novels

Haha I'm all for Mad Cat as well (clan poster child) but I'm more for the Warhammer than the Marauder (I like the versatile and overlapping ranges it can handle as well as anti-infantry capability)

Is it bad that I actually kinda liked the pre 3.0 movement rules? I liked the idea of gears having momentum and being driven like cars so we'd have to shift up/down through the different speeds/modes.

I miss that IMMENSELY! I thought I was the only one! I also don't like that the top speed evasion modifier stops at the end of activation

@@GamersOnGames Yeah I felt like movement speeds carrying over throughout the turn incentivised more deliberate planning in how you moved your gears. Plus, it made an entire round of activations more cohesive since it's meant to simulate everyone's actions happening within the same timeframe and not actually 1 gear moving and shooting at a time.

Again, agreed. HOWEVER, I will say the stat line they gave light autocannons made them more useful

@@GamersOnGames Is it possible to use 3.x statlines with the old movement system? I feel like that could be the best of both worlds.

I know this is a big ask, but if you have Tabletop Simulator, I'd love to try this rules variant with you if you're interested?
