Homework definitely needs an overhaul if it is to be compulsory. Personally, I think it should be scrapped or at least optional.

Growing up it really caused me a lot of anxiety. I would worry so much about doing it, or the trouble I would get in if I genuinely forgot. There were times I would pretend to be sick. I think it seems to be a bit better these days but draconic rules such as "No Lunch Play" are wild. A healthy balance is what I think is needed, it's just agreeing what that sweet spot is

When I was in primary school in the 90s/00s, we only got homework close to exam time. And we had to read everyday at home, too. And then we got it everyday in secondary school. For KS3, it was mainly any incomplete work from classtime.
I do think homework is a good thing, but at the right age, the right amount and it should actually be relevant to the lesson.
I don't mind numeracy and literacy but some homeworks, like certain types of art projects for example, just seem to be a waste of time and money. Just my opinion.

If kids having different feedback from parents is the problem then that is the part we should address. Schools could pay for the advanced gpt voice model to answer questions and present material to kids at home. I think this should be presented before preschool so that homework doesn’t feel like an extra add-on to school.

Hello Ms. Can you do a video about whether you should or should not tell children about santa claws, easter rabbit or god? If yes, how do you present them correctly?
