its look like great technology only from outside, but inside components and this scheme isnt a better way for this DIY. By the way, boombox assumes powerful sound and speaker flexing, that isnt observed here... 6 real watts of 30 (for 1 channel) critical available of this speakers.

Ideally, the placement of tweeters is at the widest extreme possible. This helps separate the two channels to create a wide stereo field. This is why old boom boxes always have them on the outside edge.

A robust and reliable construction with proper fixtures and components!
Assembling the box panels with both glue and screws makes this very air tight, that adds depth to the Bass frequencies.

I built something like this way back in the 80's. Replaced the head unit in the 2000's with one that did mp3 and CD's. The battery's are a good move I used a couple of old emergency light 12 volt lead acid units. If I was to do it now I would probably fit external units that interchange with power tools.
The Passives were a nice touch though and would help get the most out of it.

Great build, just one tip for improvement:
The tweeters should be as far away from each other to provide for better stereo separation.
Also put them higher so that there's less chance that stuff lying around will block them.
Other than that, again, thumbs up!

Use 4-ohm speakers instead of 8-ohm, separate the airspace, and move tweeters to ends of box for more stereo effect. So much work to come up short in the execution.

    • @urwholefamilydied
      @urwholefamilydied 4 роки тому

LOL. Nothing wrong with 8ohms. My sennheiser headphones are 300 ohms for a reason. The trade off with lowering ohms is quality (generally speaking). And you will not hear stereo because the tweeters are 12 inches apart instead of 6. Stereo is overrated anyway.

    • @TheRedneckAtheist

Solid end result! Odd method to how you got there though. All that nice work with layout and soldering, only to mount all the components with tape and silicone. SO MUCH SILICONE.
For anyone considering a build similar to this, you can make it a lot easier on yourself by cutting the speaker holes before cabinet assembly and by using a commonly available 12v DC adapter instead of the battery/BMS setup. Which means minimal soldering if any at all. Then you can spend the money you saved on a more powerful class D amp board, because those all-in-one android headunits don't put out much power at all.
