Sue Wilson so true. These men are the epitome of smartness, discipline and how a real man should look not rag tag drug dealing scumbags and thieves which is the norm in London right now. Bring back conscription I say. Proud and smart warriors.
My name is Adamson, there are lots of us in Edinburgh. I am an American from Georgia. Much of the American south was settled by Scots. Our bloodlines are still there today. We share the same spirit as fighting men and are proud to call ourselves Scots. We still fight together as one. A display like this brings a tear to my eye.
It's true. I'm from Louisiana, but a significant part of my ancestry is of Scottish descent. Some people forget, but many remember and love to attend Scottish and Celtic festivals in the U.S. and embrace each other like family. It does bring tears to the eyes.
I'm English Scots and I am an American from Tennessee. Our state was settled by the English/Scots/Irish. I am proud to be a Scot from Clan Buchanan specifically the Watsons.
I'm from California. What the hell went wrong out here? Vast majority of the nice people out here are from somewhere else. Fighting spirit? What's that? Lived in NW Louisiana for three years, the people were AWESOME, welcomed a left coaster with open arms. I love the south. God bless these people. Would love to visit there someday.
I love bagpipes and drums. They always make me cry, especially Scotland the Brave...I grew up in the Texas Hill Country, the daughter of a strong McGregor woman...since we had no neighbors, we could play music as loud as we wanted. She had so many CD's of Scottish marches, drums and pipes, so she would put them on full blast and wake us up with that every weekend, usually with some kind of amazing breakfast...bacon, fried eggs sunny side up, piping hot biscuits fresh out of the oven in a cast-iron pan, honey butter, Texas peach preserves from our own peach tree, orange juice...then we'd go work in the garden and pull weeds, go swimming, cut firewood for the winter, take care of the horses and help dad fix various things...and while all of that was going on, bagpipes were playing in the background until about noon...but then she'd switch it to Cher, Phil Collins, or whatever rock n roll she felt like listening to. Those were the days... :)
Greetings from the UK. Thank god these men are on our side. They would scare the p(i)ss out of me if I had to face them in battle. My grandfather told me that the Germans in the second world war quaked with fear when they heard the pipes, looking at these young men I can understand why. They are a credit to Scotland and a credit to the UK. God bless you lads
You grandfather was correct. There are reports of german infantrymen throwing down their rifles and running. They knew the well deserved reputation of the soldiers they called: "die Damen aus der Hölle".
They also pissed their lederhosen at the pipes of the Canadian Scottish Regiments. In memory of Piper Jimmy Richardson VC, KIA near Courcellette, Somme October 1916
Well Fred, what you described was already posted above by fiery1962 when he said "Damen aus der Hölle".......which translates as "The Ladies from Hell". So, we're all in basic agreement
@@halbarbour7340 the German army nickname for them were Devel's in skirts, when heard the sound of the bagpipe they knew it was coming there way, put the fear of God in them !

Great photography that took us to the beauty of this. Thank you from an old US lady that will watch this at few times over. Never lose your pride or pageantry.
Saw this band in New Orleans in the late 1950's as a child Absolutely the most thrilling band I have had the pleasure of watching. I grew up listening to bagpipes since my father was from Scotland.
Sorry, I just have say something here. I'm from the U.S. I love the Pipes and Drums of the Black Watch. And just think about it, the Black Watch has been one of the most feared military units for hundreds of years. Put yourself in the mind of the enemy back then. Watching these cats coming at you in those uniforms with the Pipes and Drums in full song? To say it would have been unnerving would be an understatement. Knowing you were about to engage the best in the world and they were announcing their arrival on the field and coming straight at you is not a place where I think I'd have wanted to be.
That's why the Black Watch is allowed to wear a red hackle on all headgear, as a statement of their bravery and battle prowess. Look at it this way, if you can wear red in combat these days, you've reached a level of badass rarely seen.
English born and of Scottish mother, I am in awe of all these young men who are great role models for all our young people and to hear the bagpipes always brings a tear. If I had my time again, I would walk with you all. You are the pride of all the Uk. My heart is with my flower of Scotland.

I have watched this many times and every time I am thrilled to hear the march! Much Much respect to the men of the Black Watch Guard. They look very Proud and rightfully so.
This sure does lift the spirits. Being an Englishman who served in the Scots Guards for five years, i,d like to think i,m an honourary jock. Whenever i hear the bagpipes i,m drawn to the like a moth to a flame. Some of these tunes are used by the Scots Guards and marching behind them playing makes you march two inches taller.Long live the jocks.
My Granda's regiment. 1914....1918. An unassuming strong man, with battle scars of shrapnel covering his face and body. I used to call the scars, tattoos of war.
You did an absolutely wonderful job of capturing the parade and the beautiful city. Thank you so much for sharing this. I'll never see it in person so it means a lot.
there's something about military displays and bagpipes that gives me goose pimples,As an Englishman, I have to say Scots are the bravest bastards in the whole of the UK,
My Grandfather was in the Royal Sots. he died in WW1 when my Dad was 5 and his brother was 2.. I am so proud of him,]. He is buried in Lahana War Cemetery in Greece.. Hello:)) As far as the Bagpipes go, , they are know from the Celts/Gaelic .which Scots & Irish are part of, but when as a Student , besides being Medical , I had an interest in History & Music & a few yrs. ago, I was told that the Bagpipes had originated sometime back in the days of the Romans & it was the Romans who brought them to Britian , Centuries ago, when Rome thought she could conquer the World & headed to Britannia..Someone also mentioned that the Bagpipes , had originated in early Egyptian times & had developed over eons .. Who Knows the real truth of their origins but , even today they have a distinct sound & bring it to all of us !! I was brought to Honour the Bagpipes no matter who they were played by, as they Represent Honour to All that have Served & still like so many of us That Continue to Serve.
The Bagpipes go back to the Middle East and Africa I believe, read somewhere a while back. However the Celtics especially Scots took them to a new level of apperication and made them a global icon in Music. The World over hears Bagpipes and thinks of brave Scottish soldiers marching towards a fight!!
Yes !! They Stir us all to our very souls !! ~~I do believe also thru some history even the Romans brought them to Britain . But no-one does it better than our Scots !! Ah !! in some ways, we are all connected !! Too bad we, could not all realize it !!
Jim Ramsay Thank you for your kind interest in Sandy. No, he was not in the video. He was born in 1928. Served in Korea during that conflict. He came to the States about 1958 and made it his home. It's not hard to find photos of him in books on the Black Watch. He had a huge influence on piping here in the States. He was my pipe teacher, Pipe Major and father figure for 40 years. He passed away last week at the age of 89.

In high school I was in the band. I also played in two youth bands marching in local parades. In 1964 I got a chance to see the Black Watch at the LA Sports Arena and was blown away. I still get goose bumps when I hear them once or see the on videos.
I'm American and have never seen the Black Watch march. Utterly and unreservedly magnificent. In addition, have never seen Edinburgh. The old buildings, there's something magical about them with the most haunting feeling of deja vu I've ever had, however unlikely since almost all my ancestors are from Italy. Well done !!
If you're old enough to remember JFK's funeral you may have unwittingly seen the Black Watch Pipes and Drums band which took part in his funeral. They were touring the U.S. at the time, and had played for the President. After his death, his wife Jackie requested that they take part in the Cortege as he had enjoyed their playing so much. I think there's a brief video somewhere on UA-cam which captured the band.
I was born and brought up in Auld Reekie (Edinburgh) watching the soldiers march to the pipes and drums from the Castle to the Palace was a frequent sight when I was a laddie and as Edinburgh as the fog, the east wind, the chip sauce, a pint of heavy or a Jambos vs Hibees... Not that the current regime in holyrood have any patience with such base pleasures.. Their far too busy enforcing thought crime!
As a ex military man of 24 years I have to say that the Scots are the best military band you will ever hear, when you hear the sound of the pipes you can understand why it instills such pride ,strength, and fighting spirit into the troops. This from a Englishman.
Wonder if you tell your fellow NI brothers and sisters that while the UK government continues to destroy both our countries 🤔 aye, "better together" my arse.
This video looks likely to great the 6 MILLION views barrier today! Thanks so much to everyone who has watched it and for the repeated views which so many of you tell me about!!
Magnificent. I've seen Soviet, and Nazi military parades as many have, which, needles to say try to convey strength through display of arms, but neither can compare with this. This surpasses both. Absolutely splendid. The bagpipes, drums, and uniforms, surpass all. You all in the UK should feel very proud.
As an elderly English woman living in the USA I have no Scot blood in me but I have always thrilled to the sound of the pipes and the sight of the Highlanders marching.... perhaps somewhere in my DNA there is a wee bit of scot.
Michael Neely, agree with Mac laurie clan. Royal Stewarts and Black Watch are stalwarts. Do not f#ck w/ them. Napoleon called them neanderthals because of their brutish behavior in battle. Shock troops all of them. Cheers from U.S.
Loved reading your comments and really enjoyed your historical perspective on past and more recent events involving you Scots, other Britons, and your neighbors on the continent, including your more distant relatives located down under. As a yank whose had the opportunity to have spent time in Scotland and England,I wish to mention that I'm really glad the US has had the benefit and privilege of having you fire breathing Scots as allies for quite some time now (since 1820 or so, as I recon). If you have ever served in the Armed Forces of any nation, then you will appreciate martial marching music. It is a part of the esprit de corps that those of us who have ever served in the military knows well.
I always look forward to watching the Military Tattoo every year on UA-cam. Traveling has became difficult and pricey lately, but doesn't hold me back from enjoying the wonderful sounds of the pipes and drums.
Allthough I am Dutch I am proud to be able to say that there are several Scotsmen in my ancestry and they were soldiers too. Their family name was Stuart.
G. Geurtsen:-- "Stuart" is the French spelling for the Scots/English "Stewart". "The Royal Stewart" monarchy elevated "The House of Hanover" from a principality in Germany to become the British "Royal House of Hanover". It gives Elizabeth II her royal status. She is descended from the Scots/German "Sophia of Hanover".
the name stewart or stuart derives from the steward of robert the bruce, one of whom married into the bruces family and whos descendants eventually necame king of scots, they eventually became heir to the throne of england when elizabeth the 1st of england died childless, most of the stewart/stuart family were c+nts

Utmost respect for your Dad. The first time I ever heard about the Black Watch was whilst watching The World at War in 1973 when I was about 12. At the end of one of the episodes is an interview with a wartime reporter, Wynford Vaughan-Thomas, who was the first to report that 'we' (the Allies) had crossed the Rhine, which was both a strong physical AND psychological barrier to pushing into the German homeland. The message had come back from the front... "The Black Watch are across the Rhine...." I clearly remember asking my Dad (who I later found out worked on PLUTO during WW2) 'What is the Black Watch?'. He replied... 'Who, boy, not 'what'....... and in a fight, you DEFINITELY want them on YOUR side!'. Turned out, he had been stationed in Edinburgh for a few months in 1943 and had been billeted with The Black Watch. He was a 'sassenach squaddie' and, although they didn't know why a Private in the Devonshire Regt was stationed with them north of the border, they took him under their wing ... and he NEVER forgot it.

The last sentence admittedly was dark humor. Not liking a comment doesn't make the comment stupid.

braw, sounds like heaven
It's a shame there were no neighbours for your mum to educate musically :)

Yea, you're right about that. Now it's all about being as invisible as you can make yourself. Thanks for the info. I learned something I didn't know.

Ah, the skirl of the pipes! Make what Scots-Irish blood flow faster!

"The Black Watch are across the Rhine...."
I clearly remember asking my Dad (who I later found out worked on PLUTO during WW2) 'What is the Black Watch?'.

For 300 years these men have marched into battle
Well yes, indeed. Hope they're ready for the next one, before sharia law hits their shore.
too late. your guns are unloaded and English mps are looking to shorten even your knives! run for the colonies. we still have our guns, at least...for now.
teller12 stupid comment
how so? 1) you have total gun ban, 2) the Saracen are attacking people all over the place, including decapitating British soldier in broad daylight on city street - which led to effort to ban certain knives (said effort has restarted from what I heard recently, due to endless knife attacks by the muja). The last sentence admittedly was dark humor. Not liking a comment doesn't make the comment stupid.
teller12 guns aren't banned in the UK. And it isn't just the uk where Islam is killing people it's everywhere. But the biggest attack was in America wasn't it 9/11

I think here in Canada, we should show the pride and strength of our nation as well as the U. S and Britain and Europe. ...
There is a Canadian Black Watch regiment, little sister regiment to the Scots, so why don't they do parades like this?
Man there's a gigantic Scottish ancestry in Canada! Thats why you are good at Curling!
Groundskeeper Willie approves of The Black Watch Parade!!!
