Fuji cameras let you bracket shoot with a few different options - AE, film simulation, etc. I wish they had the ability to bracket different custom settings. So each time you took a photo it would create 3 JPEG’s, and you could just keep the one you want.
I actually hate when people say "Like, Comment, Subscribe" on their YT videos (as if we don't already know how to do that), but when I saw 3:44, I couldn't help but to smile. I definitely subbed and you're the first person I've subbed to in a while. And as you can see, I liked and commented ;). Well played. That was so subtle and creative. You deserved it.
Mr. JR..... I have some photo editing background, but I am very new to Fuji. I am considering migrating to Fuji (from Canon) and have found your videos on Fuji film simulations very, very helpful and informative. They have really helped me --begin-- to understand the Fuji system. Thank you so much for your well organized, informative, and well presented videos.
I am not sure if the x100v has a Q button (quick menu) but a fourth way is to change the settings in the quick menu and then you can hold the Q button and it will ask you if you want to save your current settings to a custom preset. I have an X-t30 II and I think it is an amazing camera due to its small size while still having enough buttons and interchangeable lenses while sharing many of the X-T4's specs and features and it has a pop-up flash.
Bought a X100V a couple of days ago, lots to learn. I'm loving your tutorials Jay, thanks so much and keep up the good work, lots of people appreciate it!
Congratulations on your purchase Andrew! Hope you take many memorable photos with it 👍👍 and thankyou! I'm still learning as I go, but the process is what makes it fun!
Hi Jay i have just started trying to add the recipe, but my XT30 doesn't have classic negative as a base. can i use classic chrome as the base or will this change the look too much?
Great video man! I like all your recipes. Especially the Flat profile. Makes so much sense. Editing jpgs can be so destructive sometimes, but when the immediacy is wanted this is great. Good work. 🤘
Thanks, Jay. I'm going to give your recipes a try. I never thought of using a flat recipe to have a better starting point with the phone apps. Great Idea.
Thankyou! The flat profile was made because there's no real way to get a flat picture profile on Fuji cameras unless you shoot raw, so I had to make one out of frustration 😅
Really cool, Jay! It's easy to see that you put a lot into planning this video, and while making it all clear. This is opening up things I've been pondering since I got my X-T3, just didn't know where to start. Really helpful. Thank you!!!
Hi. Is there any way to modify a film simulation recipe in-camera to enhance to boost a specific hue, such as greens or reds? I know that you can do that in-camera for Acros or Monochrome, but is there any way to do that for other simulations in-camera?
Hey Jay, nice video and interesting profiles. One question: do you use the clarity setting at all? On the film profiles it looks like you have, but hard to tell from a video. I do experiment also with 1 or 2 profiles to have an overexposed film look, but am not sure how to go with clarity. Thanks a lot!
I think clarity is great, the only reason I avoid it is because it takes extra processing time in camera to apply the effect for some reason. I would rather push clarity in a third party application or take the image in raw and in camera, apply the clarity after taking the photo
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I have question: when you change all the setting such as sharpness, contrast, etc... and save to a new custom setting, do the change reset to original setting? Or do I have to manually change the settings back to the original? Thanks again.
Congratulations on your work. You help us a lot. I have a question: On my XT3 I have all the Custom Settings filled with recipes. Can I keep the simulations that the camera brings somewhere in the menu? Thanks in advance for your help
Hi Buddy..... these are fabulous...... im going to load all of these onto my xt3. What a great vid and so good of you to share the knowledge. Thanks 😊 🙂👍 Quick question..... if I select a custom setting how do I deselect it and go back to blank default setting. Thanks
Thanks Steve, I hope the film simulations work well for you. If you wish to revert back to the default setting which was originally assigned to the custom slot by Fujifilm, go to edit/save custom settings > highlight the slot you want to reset > press ok and select reset > confirm That should set it back to what it was at factory settings. Hope that helps
Good tutorial, Jay. Much to mull over. Found what might be a “bug” unique to XT-4 - cam touch keyboard (when naming custom settings, e.g.) - letter “L” appears in uppercase only, even when typing in lower case mode. Only affects this letter, in my experience. Did you find the same? How can these custom profiles be imported into LR? Cheers!
I've never given lower case naming before but I'll check it out. I'm also not sure how to import custom settings into lightroom, maybe there's a workaround that I have not looked into.
Not sure which video you are referring to, if it was film simulation part 2 you can probably see the x raw studio settings if you pause the video as I am editing.
My question is how do I quickly change back to the completely original settings my X100V came with, do I just save one of the custom settings to the first film simulation without making any adjustments or is there a way to quickly go back to the “OG” camera settings. Thank you in advance.
The original settings are just the film simulations with no extra iq setting tweaks. So you would have to have a custom slot without any changes to the iq settings.
My stupid question. Is it possible, through accident, to alter the settings to the DEFAULT profiles? I don't want to screw those up, trying to create a custom profile.
Such a great job you’ve done! Thank you! I am a pro, so I am used to only use raw and lots of post processing, not because I want but because I need to. But, hey, I bought X100V for my own photos, to enjoy photography again, so I want to get deep into those great Fujifilm simulations that look so good! So, what I understood is that there are only 7 slots, these can be used EITHER as pre-filled with the Fujifilm standard simulations OR modified by the user, renamed etc. I mean, if I change slot no2 and put a recipe in it, I will not have Velvia available in camera any more unless I reset no2 back to it? I got it right? Or do we always have the 7 standard slots available, PLUS another 7 custom slots for recipes?
There are only 7 slots in total to work with, if you apply a recipe to any of them you are not locked into using the film simulation for that recipe. You can change film simulations simply by going into IQ settings, and the current recipe parameters should be there for you to edit. Changing parameters will not be permanent, unless you resave the applied changes to the original custom slot the recipe was assigned to.
@@JayRegular Jay, another question if you don’t mind... when I click to save a recipe from X Raw Studio to the camera, there are two options that you can tick. 1) Copy to camera setting and 2) Copy to camera custom setting. I understand the second one, but what exactly is the first one doing?
From what I remember, one of them saves the recipes into Fuji raw studio (kind of like a preset), and the other saves the recipe to a camera custom slot
@@JayRegular Hey Jay, does that mean if I were to save custom recipes I should save those to C2- C7 with C1 being the one with default factory settings? So if I want to use built in simulations I should cycle through it under C1? Hope you get what I mean, just got the X-Pro 3 and things can be a bit confusing switching from analog to this. Thanks!
It would be a lot more convenient to go back to default settings if you leave c1 as it was when you first purchased the camera, but there are many film simulations to choose from so if say, you preferred astia over provia, you would still need to change c1 to astia as your "default" simulation
Great series! Wondering how you manage different white balance profiles in film simulations... I made some main lines and using them between the film profiles. But why on earth fujifilm does not allow us to customize it also?
I think in newer Fuji cameras you can create individual white balance settings for different presets, I remember I couldn't do that with my xt2 but now I can on my x100v
I think you can still change the wb shift when you have a custom profile selected. You just need to remember to change the wb shift if you change to another custom profile
I noticed some of your pictures, especially the night time ones have a diffusion/bloom effect - Do you use a lens filter to achieve this or is it just because you turned the sharpness down in settings?
I have an x100T. Is it possible to set different WB settings on this one (especially the color shift) ? Apparently I can set WB auto and shift the colors, but I can't use one WB setting for my custom setting n°1, and another WB setting for my custom setting n°2.
Unfortunately with older model cameras it's not possible to have one wb option for each custom setting. I had this same issue back when I had my X-T2, I had to always change wb whenever I changed my recipes
