Manytime my 6 brothers and I danced to this tune and the most brilliant and best-rocking band that ever existed in this world Thin Lizzy played this song live on stage on front of us, We were blessed and very lucky to have got to see T Lizzy play live many times. By the way, do not worry about Phil’s black eye, you should have seen the other 8 fellows who started that fight,, they each had 2 black eyes, bloody noses, thick ears and pain in their backsides from the kick they recived before been sent on their merry way, Phil would not take lip from no one, he was a hard man with a heart of gold as good as God above

I remember watching this with my mum and dad and remember them laughing at the line "should've been in by 10". "Who the he'll is going to tell HIM to be in by 10?" my mum asked.
No black eye was genuine on this occasion...his guitarist made a pass for someone's girlfriend and her boyfriend accidental punched Phil 🤣....I see them many, many times...Ireland's finest 🇮🇪
Regarding Phil`s shiner,I`ve just been reading a biography book about the band which mentions Thin Lizzy were playing at an outdoor festival near Turku (Finland) at about the same time this TOTP was recorded and Phil and his whole roadcrew got a proper hiding from a bunch of Finnish lumberjacks in a bar near the festival.
Wow I never saw this video Phil has a nice shiner on his right eye. Just proof that he was a street fightin man and never backed down. I am sure he had to defend himself constantly.
Just as good in concert as they are on the album, FACT. Saw the reformed, new Lizzy this year in London, and they were amazing, they were different, but they rocked just as hard as the original, this was covered amazingly!
a much better live band than they ever were on record, i'm a massive Lizzy fan, saw them 7 times, Phil just had that charisma and presence, and the rocky guitars of Scott and a whole host of other very talented guitarists just made them incredibile live..
Thin Lizzy Timeless and iconic . Such a tragic ending. They were on there way to that place only reserved for few. Smdh BTW They were my favorite when they were rocking . And that leaves a,lot of grear rock bands second . We will never know what could have been .
I used to sing this song to a beloved Pit Bull mix who would bark at my door, stand on her hind legs, and was ready to dance! I wrote an article about her for My Puppy Blog in Australia.
Love this. Why , oh why, do cameramen/producers INSIST on going away from a guitar player’s fretting hand during a guitar solo? ESPECIALLY a tasty solo like this one. It’s MADDENING!!!
Who's that taller, older, guy in the crowd - looking like a teacher?.... "Urr, no, no, no - you can't do that. Anymore of that and we're all going home. I'm watching". [Turns away to continue dancing].
Snowy White wasnt quiet right for Thin Lizzy either. If you prefer Gary Moore he kills it with his guitar brillance on that song WITH LOVE chex it out .!!
Nice black eye and on a half black half Irish guy - gotta love that! How did Phil get the shiner? The story goes that Thin Lizzy had played on a TV show in Finland the day before this show at Tops of the Pops was taped, and after the show the band went to a pub their in Helsinki and Phil got punched when he stepped in to break up a fight. Some have claimed it was stage make-up but Phil's eye and face is clearly swollen.
Phil Lynott: a true Irish man, singing a song with a black eye.
Random Unit his mother is an Irish woman, and his father was a black Brazilian man, he was born in Ireland
Random Unit a true irish is someone who doesnt hide online and think they're a big man like you You're lucky id batter you
You seem to forget that there are Dark Irish as well.
Random Unit because He was born and breed here thats how, regardless of his colour, creed or religion. He's Irish, and was proud to be.
Random Unit He's mixed lol
"It's 3 O'clock in the morning and I'm on the streets again, I disobeyed another order..." So my dad gave me this shiner.
That bassline 💗
completely underrated guitar solo and guitar tone on top of that!!
Underrated by who?
Not us!
Phil stepped in to stop a fight and took black eye...what a guy...
uh on he didnt..
blisterpacman what happened
@@Dillfab he got punched in the face at a bar
blisterpacman yes but I heard it was because he split up a fight
Bouncers are douchebags. This man probably took the shot like a champ and got hauled out by three guys. No way he took the punch like a b****.

What a fucking voice man! I wasn’t even alive when he was but I miss ya Phil
His legacy was his voice....never too late to enjoy.
That's a lovely thing to say, I knew him and he was like your best mate from childhood, a proper Gentleman and uniquely generous.

Not sure I agree, to me his legacy is so much more than his voice.. He was and still is The Coolest frontman ever.
Such a beautiful song
Tears on my eyes, whenever i listen to this lovely tune! Rest in peace to this Irish heart, from a Greek heart!
I’m Greek too & I’m obsessed with him!! I’m born in 75 & I watch all his live performances in 75 & jus wish I coulda been there!!!

"Who the he'll is going to tell HIM to be in by 10?" my mum asked.
It’s a song reminiscing on his youth lol
Philomena would give Phil a curfew
A very tasty solo from Scott Gorham ; perfect for the song .
RIP Irish Prince
just because he was black? lol okay..
Prince doesn't even come close to this legend
@@excavator69931 only saw half your comment thought you were gonna shit on prince, but I’ll allow it
Gorham had the best hair around.
One of the best groups; certainly the coolest.
My favourite Thin Lizzy song, and Phil is even more beautiful with that shiner! Spectacular upload!
So hot OMG
He regularly smeared shoe/boot polish under his eyes - he'd have "mock" fights while on stage, part of his act.
@@Gardeninggirl1107 okay, thank you very mutch but is there video material of it ? any idea ?

Phil didn’t participate in this. It was Robbo and some other of the crew.

phil was a rocker too, i'll take no lip no one is tougher than me..
Gotta admit, it woulda been a fuckin’ honour to have the shit kicked outta me by Phil!
with a black eye and all, Phil still gave it to us. Absolute Legend
Record just as great as ever. Phil, such a sad loss. :(
The only question Phil would ask prospective road crew:
'Can ye foight?'
It's 3 o'clock in the morning... I'll have to say "hey I stayed with friends". Been there Phil. You fricking rule!
Phil was the real deal absolutely rocker
A normal day in irish guy: black eye caused by fight and later play rock and roll in TV show.
love the black eye on phil! :) makes him even hotter!
Quite a shiner on his right eye... I guess the boys are back in town.
There's John Anthony Helliwell (saxo) from Supertramp
Really?
I'm very confused!
Got a friggin fresh black eye...wow is that rock and roll! No BS from these lads...Philo!
Legends great guitar solo by Gorham
Holy Smokes they were so good!!!
One of the greatest Lizzy band setups, the other one is with Gary Moore. Best Band Ever!!
Phil was just so very cool, loved listing to anything Thin Lizzy
But I'm dancing in the moonlight
It's caught me in its spotlight

Dancing in the moonlight
On this long, hot summer night
this song is still incredible
and playing live too by the look of it! I loved this band!!!!
Yeah. I was surprised by that.
He was singing live on top of the studio version of the song, but of course is way better than a total playback.
