I am pleased to inform you that as of today, I have PASSED MY INSTRUMENT RATING SKILLS TEST with a full pass! Thanks for all the support! ✈️ - Demetris
Congratulations
Well done! But I would say, open the power that fast in an Aztec or Seneca or Navajo and you will get a rich cut!
GreatFlyer congratulations! Love following your journey!
Congratulations ! I Passed mine 30 years ago on a PA 34, OATS, Kidlington.
Nice one buddy! You will soon be flying into Skiathos in that Left Hand seat!

Congrats on your IFR rating. It is good not to have wear the hood✈
Thank you so much! Indeed, it's a relief to fly without it now!
This Lady ATC is a dream come true.
We are lucky to have her :)
Easily the clearest and easiest to understand ive ever heard!
Atc controller sounded very nice and forgiving to people
That's what I love about flying in the UK! The controllers and FISOs are people who dedicate their time for the safety of private and student pilots flying around in uncontrolled airspace!
Brilliant, my home airport....Brighton International !
International indeed if you take into account how many times a week an FTA aircraft flies to Le Touquet 😂
Plane has some power! WOW
It does! Cruise climbing at 100 knots KIAS 1300 feet per minute up! My first impression when I backseated a DA42 was that I was riding a 737, everything happens so fast.
Damn good job. Congratulations on your Instrument rating. May your passengers always feel safe and enjoy the moment. Did you say "legs up" for the landing gear? Wheels up, Legs up! Love it, I'll have to remember that.
Thank you so much! I think you are referring to my call "insufficient runway, gear up".
Haha no way, I did my training at FTA a few years back and flew G-DMND.....in fact, I’m in the process of moving my paper logbook onto an electronic logbook as a backup and I just did all the entries for ND, MH and MI today 🤓 Congrats on passing your IR, was Lee your examiner? And how’s the Hero 7 working out for you, and what’s your audio recording set up?
Thank you so much! Yes he was, what a fantastic professional to fly with. Loving the hero 7, has everything I ever wanted! I use Transair's PA-80 cable and a Sony ICD AX-412 sound recorder. Stay tuned for more!
GreatFlyer were you there in May for the Ryanair recruitment presentation?
This is amazing. I would love to do this in my DA40. Can you explain how you / they mounted this and connected the audio? Photos?
Hello Jim! I used GoPro's flat adhesive mount on the glass canopy. For the audio, I used Transair's PA-80 cable which splits the COM audio jack into your normal COM port for your headset and a 3.55m audio input for your camera or audio recorder. I use the Sony ICD AX-412 audio recorder. Thanks for stopping by!
Always wanted to fly a DA-42, it's such a sweet bird. Congrats on your IFR rating ;)
Thank you so much!
That’s some badass hat u have there
Hey. I need your exact go pro hero 7 settings like ISO, EV, Spot Meter etc. Can you give me screenshot or something? Thank you !
Those engines sounds great!
Yes they do! Feel free to check out my other DA42 videos too :)
This is an incredibly beautiful video, can you give some insight into your GoPro setup (lens filters?), settings (frame rate?), and any editing techniques used? Thanks on behalf of many aspiring aviation youtubers!
and one more question when hand flying the da42 do use the FD? or leave it off? thanks
Hi Eytan! FDs off otherwise no raw data training.
@@greatflyer_aviation intresting. Thank you!
How do you sync the audio with video recording?
amazing video!!!!!! keep going and upload amazing and different video as always!
Thank you so much Kosta! Trying my utmost in uploading a variety of different aviation videos so stay tuned.
Congrats. . .the journey is always enjoyable. Once you "finesse" you rhythm, flying becomes even more enjoyable. Right now, it's training. . .once it become rote memory, it'll feel and sound a lot smoother for you.
I agree, instrument flying does mean following a rhythm. Thanks for watching!
The engines are fantastic!
I thought people would complain as I have not purchased a prop filter for the 7 Black yet, glad to see you're enjoying the sight of them :)
Any chance you would be able to advise on how you are capturing the audio when using GoPro Hero 7? Have one myself & struggling to figure out the best possible way! Thanks.
Hi Charlie! Always use an external sound recorder, I use the ICD AX-412. You can get a PA-80 cable from Transair, plug it in your aircraft's audio port, plug your headset in, and connect the PA-80's 3.55mm audio jack to your sound recorder and tadaa!
GoPro also has a connection that goes into the camera that plugs into the aircraft then your headset plugs into it. Record directly onto the camera.
Charley Alpha Aviation Yes it does but unfortunately the Hero 7 now adopts the micro HDMI as one of its inputs. My current cable used previously on my hero 4 is a micro usb input. Unable to find a worthwhile adapter at the mo
I didn't think the 7 was any different than the 5-6. According to GoPro web site, the same device that we use on our 5 will work on the 7 editions. I am not sure if i can link it here, but its 3.5mm mic adapter and then you need another adapter one to go from the aircraft to that 3.5mm. I think its the same cable GreatFlyer talked about. Unless something else is totally different.
Charley Alpha Aviation Many thanks for your help!!
Could you tell me which setup you set for the camera? Because in my Camera we see outside WHITE and only see the cockpit
Hi David! Standard settings, edited post-production.
Don't want to be captain obvious, but where is the sunscreen that swings down and forward to prevent from having to wear that hidious headscreen?
Hi, that’s not a sunscreen but an IFR hood to block any visual cues as the flight is logged as instrument flight time.
Their one sunny day for the year and they spend it training IFR under the hood 😅
Just kidding. Excellent video! Is this a DA42-NG? My dream plane 😍
This is the DA42 TDI, still a pleasure (and piece of cake) to fly. Thanks for watching and check out my other videos in the DA42/DA40!
@@greatflyer_aviation Oh cool, so the one with the Thielert Centurion engines?
You need to get rid of the knee pad on left side. You keep hitting it with the stick.
Hey! Thanks for the feedback. Luckily we don’t use kneepads in the 737. I found that the kneeboard on the right was interfering with me controlling the power levers.
Great departure, excellent video mate
Thank you very much Esmail! Stay tuned for more.
That ATC is so patient.
Very professional guys and girls behind the screens.
What is the configuration for the gopro (fps, ISO, resolution, etc) ?. The exterior looks beautiful
Congratulations 🎊🎉🍾
What A Great 🛫💞
Thanks For Sharing ❣️
Happy Safe 🛫All💞
Thanks for watching! Check out my other flying videos ✈️
So do you actually hear all the talking over the radio all the time? Because you also hear people from other planes talking to ATC, if I'm not mistaken. Sorry, I have zero knowledge about planes, just love watching it!
Hi Sam, great to have you here! Yes, you can hear anyone transmit on the frequency you're tuned in (just like you tune in a specific radio station in your car). However, your voice is only transmitted if you press a button which is usually behind the control column (aka push-to-talk). Hope this made it clearer for you, stay tuned for more!
Good thing about student pilots they have all the disciplines in the world. This reminds me a lot when I was student pilot 10 years ago.
The goal is to maintain this level of discipline, having attained it during your initial training. Thanks for watching!
Hi, please can you told me exact name or link where to buy this sunshield you have on your head? Thank you.
xD
Apart from GoPro Hero 7 Black, what are the gears and cable used for ATC recording? Crystal clear with noise cancelling! This is awesome
Hi Andrew! It's the magical PA-80 audio cable bought from transair.co.uk. Not cheap, yet does the job very well. One end of that cable was plugged into a Sony ICD AX-412 sound recorder, but you can use any recorder you wish, as long as it accepts an audio input. Thanks for watching!
Hi, what do you use for recording the Audio. Thanks
Thanks for watching! Audio Recording: Sony ICD AX-412 & Transair PA-80 Cable
3:16 reminds me of a bird. i donnu the name of it tho. :)
The pilot have a hat haha
Everybody on the radio is so polite. That is great.
That's what I love about flying in the UK! Can be ridiculously busy sometimes, though. Check out my other videos flying in the DA40/DA42!
Seems a bit tight for space in there
doing my airbus rating now but i miss flying the twinstar! such an elegant plane.
Is anyone else satisfied with the propellers
Me!
Everybody is so polite!
This is what I absolutely love about flying in the UK. So many ATCs and FISOs working EXCLUSIVELY general aviation VFR traffic, but also ATCs in extremely busy airspace accommodating light traffic.
Is that aircraft the G1000+KAP140?
Correct!
foreflight on the ipad? nice job!
Negative, Jeppview!
Where do students normally stay during training at FTA is rent expensive near Brighton
There's plenty of options, I'm renting a room in Shoreham by sea in a family home and loving it, other people are house sharing.
@@greatflyer_aviation how often do you got to the flight school
could i ask how u connectrd go pro to mic audio
Transair PA-80
How much does it cost?
What's the benefit between single piston vs twin prop?🤔
Are those props cause any distraction?
Hi Zen!
Unit cost for a DA42 is about half a million USD.
The advantages are speed and reliability (two engines instead of one).
They do not cause distraction as the props are invisible while spinning, and they are off to the side away from forward view.
@@greatflyer_aviation Hello! Thanks for sharing. I've PPL with Cessna, flying is my intense passion and hobby. I'm wondering which way to go in the near future -- purchase an aircraft etc. Is this model available to check out in California? I'm not very sure of watching one at Stanford Flying School. Please share any other relevant info, thank you very much.👍
edit: I came here after watching one Airbus wings documentary. The presenter flew this plane, which looked so modern and gorgeous.😍
Been to any gliding clubs near Shoreham .
Hello and congratulation on your Instrument Rating!!!But i didn't understand what was the point to fly with flaps in clean configuration
Hi, thank you so much! That is the standard procedure recommended by the manufacturer, Diamond. In twin engine piston aircraft, very rarely would you take off with flaps set, in anticipation of an EFATO - engine failure after takeoff. The aircraft would barely climb on one engine with the flaps down. Good job for noticing and thanks for stopping by!
@@greatflyer_aviation Thank you so much for explaining.
I was surprised to see all the crap remain in your lap on take off and during flight. Why wouldn’t you stow your iPad and notebook.
Kneeboard needs to stay up to note times and refer to frequencies and iPad needs to be on standby with the enroute airways charts. Thanks for stopping by!
That’s certainly interesting, I’m a pilot and never fly with items laying in my lap. iPad is fixed in a mount, out of the way. Understand the concepts, but during take off certainly do not see the need to have my lap cluttered. Good luck hope the best.
Lol multi training without mixture and pitch levers
737s don't have neither mixtures nor prop levers, but they do have FADECs, FMSs, PFDs and MFDs etc ;) I believe training in such modern aircraft is a necessity nowadays.
GreatFlyer you’re lucky to fly such modern aircraft, multi training without mixture and prop levers is different. They help you appreciate the more modern tech like FADEC
Great view on this plane...how many passengers?
In case nobody else answers, the aircraft is a 4 seater and as that was either a training or test flight there would have been no passengers on board.
What’s the cruise altitude
FL80 as in the title.
Please make a video on how you recorded this video, which Gopro what settings, which audio recording equipment etc
Check the video's title and description :) Thanks for watching!
@@greatflyer_aviation more information! Mounting locations, mounts themselves, what you use for editing, sound etc, one video on just all of that!
Hi again Neil,
There was a GoPro flat adhesive mount stuck on the top where I mounted my GoPro. Editing software was Sony Vegas Pro 13. Sadly I cannot make that video you're asking as I no longer have access to those aircraft (I'm flying the 737). But I'll try my best to answer any further questions you may have. Thanks!
@@greatflyer_aviation thanks for all of this, congrats on getting on a 737!
Great teaching video well done
Thank you so much.

what a sexy atr :)
I saw what you did there!
Love to you and your subs
Thanks Mike!
Are you doing PPL or ATPL?
PPL (A) since 2016, did my ATPLs a few months ago, passed my ME IR yesterday and now a CPL student 😊
GreatFlyer congratulations! Wish you all the best. Can't wait to see another simmer land into an airline cockpit!
Great as always!
Thank you so much!
Well done!
Thanks Kilian!
Why the safety vest?
Haven't you heard, a safety vest will protect you against all known aviation hazards including bird strike and engine failure or cancer caused by exposure to ultra-violet light. ;)
Peter said it all.
JK. We are obliged to wear high visibility vests when walking around the apron and I just didn't bother to take it off.
Weird, where I trained we had to take off the high vis immediately upon entering because they pose a fire hazard. Maybe not so much in the diamond but we do it anyway.
Adam, I absolutely agree with you and when I was flying I always removed it on entering the aircraft for exactly that reason as they are synthetic and the burns from them would be horrific. @@adamyahiya7250
Great stuff. Very busy airspace, mixing it with the heavies!!
The London TMA is regarded as one of the busiest bits of airspace in the world! Such a cool experience flying in it.
Class A air space is 18000 feet and above!
This is not the USA. Transition level can be as low as 3000 ft here. London's TMA (Class A) extends from 2500 feet around the Gatwick area and from 5500 around the Goodwood area!
@@greatflyer_aviation yes like a up side down cacke. In usa it starts from 18 000 feet. I was thinking that in EU is the same class system.
dont be so nervous dude
Trying not to be :) To be fair, I was less nervous in my IR skills test yesterday!
You guys would be much easier to understand if you would annunciate your psyllables. Just sayin.
Hi there, what do you mean by annunciate our psyllables?
GreatFlyer 😂🤣 You talk like you have molasses stuck in your mouth. Try to speak clearer. Does that help? Or do you like sounding like youre in a jail house somewhere?
Flying over water...no life preservers worn...basic stuff here. Is the Pilot Irish? He sounds like it.
It is absolutely not a necessity to wear life jackets in a multi engine piston aircraft at any time. The rule (as per Part-NCO) is that if you're flying more than 50nm from a suitable landing area or 30 mins flight time at all-engines TAS life jackets must be *CARRIED* onboard. We only flew 1.5nm away from land but we did have life jackets behind our seats :) Thanks for stopping by!
Let me guess........sim pilot???
Sounds like you need a hearing check
FL080? Funny.
Hey Chris, every country has different transition altitude. Looking at your UA-cam videos, it seems you're from the US and as you know US and Canada is FL180. But in most countries, it is much lower and some even change their transition altitude everyday depending on altimeter setting. In Europe (looks like this guy is from the UK), the transition altitude is much lower than the US. In Cuba, which is only a few miles from the coast of Florida, it usually is 3.000ft (sometimes 4.000ft). Cheers and happy flying.
Flight level starts at 18k my man
In North America they do, but in Europe they usually start at around 5000ft but can be as low as 3000ft.
Congratulations on your instrument rating! Just a friendly reminder that flight levels start at 18,000 feet. For example, an instruction to climb to 24,000’ would be “Southwest 1234, climb to flight level two four zero.” Everything under 18,000’ is thousands (14,000’ would be one four thousand, 8,000’ would be eight thousand, etc).
Russell Bonds different for different countries
Russell Bonds I was wondering the same thing here, I guess different countries do it differently.
Agreed with Uchi, different rules for different country. Some even have a FL change altitude going down and a different one going up. USA and Canada is 18.000ft (FL180 is only available when Alt setting is 29.92 and above though).
In the Netherlands and I think most of Europe this is not the case. and transition altitude is only 3000 ft in this country
This is not the case in Europe, the transition altitude can be as low as 3000 feet, meaning you can have as low as FL035. It is 6000 feet for Shoreham, notice how ATC instructed me to "climb 6000 feet" then "climb FL080" having passed the transition altitude. The transition level varies and can be calculated using QNH and each airport's transition altitude.
Oh goody, hood time. Small note FL does not become active till above 18,000 ft. No such
thing as FL 080.
Wrong that's only the USA, England is different it comes active mostly in London at around 6000ft and it's flight level 80
@@Lightaviator All JAA member states and standard pressure depends of the airfield.
Transition altitude for Shoreham is 6000 feet, so you can have as low as FL065 :) At other airfields, it is as low as 3000 feet.
Hahaha typical yankee thinks transition level is the same in the rest of the world as it is in the USA 🤣
