👍🐯👍 Thanks for sharing, I hope to get one soon as my funds permit. I love what I can see of your work bench. Most workbenches have dog holes that are to dang close to the edge, on almost all historic examples they are where you(and to a lesser extent I)have placed them. Good job presenting the tool, hope to see more of the shop and your work in the future. Cheers.

Thanks for the info, trying to decide between this and the skew rabbet to round out my collection.

Do you have any questions on either plane?

That little brass screw that sets the minimum on the throat opening is there to prevent you from doing what you did at 0:52, which was hit the movable piece against your nicely sharpened and honed blade tip.
I can see this plane being very useful for some people.

      yup, indeed.

btw, you may not have noticed, but that is precisely what I'm demonstrating at that moment. And I do point out directly after how the set screw works to prevent that.

Could a depth stop from, say the skew rabbet planes, fit in the unused screw holes on the opposite side of the fence?

it is very possible. I don’t have one to try though. Most of the “fences “ that Veritas makes work across pretty much all their planes that have the fence screw holes.

I need this thing for work!
I cut massive rabbits, dado, and lap joints very often.
I have a rabbit plane, but can't use the handle because the wall of the joint is too deep.

since I got mine . . . it has become my go to plane. Poor smooth plane has been languishing on the shelf.

Thanks for sharing. I believe you meant to say "Norris" style adjuster not "Norton"

You are correct, and thanks for catching it!

Is it worth having or a luxury tool? Looking at something like this for tenons on a bread board end table. But does it do other work or is it a one job wonder?

Hmm, good question. Because the blade goes to the edges on both sides, one would need to have good technique to use it for all planing operations.
      BUT
because it has an adjustable mouth, this plane can be used as a jack of all trades. IF you did a lot of panel raising, I would not hesitate to use this as my only plane.
Just a few days ago I grabbed this Jack instead of smoother and didn’t twig until after I had finished smoothing a board.
So, ya, I think this would easily do the job, just be sure to plane with good technique.

Use the fence rod holes to attach side plates with 10-32 screws.
With the side plate, angled tote and low angle, it's fantastic on a shooting board. My side plate is a 1/2" cutting board with truss head screws. I need a recess (countersink) of 7/16" to use on the shooting board.
With good technique it can smooth well. You do need to be careful with digging in. Side plates help.
If I was using it as a a regular jack, I'd want 2 extra blades. One highly cambered and one slightly cambered. And use it with the sides. Keep the original for rabbeting & shooting.

Review without your opinion only is a commercial.
