- In this video I give a short tour and test drive of a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Duramax. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this truck while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I show the truck idling as well as take it on a thorough test drive through the city and highway on various surfaces. A thorough drive of this truck designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
love the early 01&02 duramax trucks 😃
Ronnie Mata I also love these too these were my bucket list trucks of my childhood
@@tristanmathesonsinventory2443 same i have yet too drive a 8100 truck
That's a very nice truck. Simple, not complicated, that's my type of truck!
yeah that generation looks a lot more nicer than the ones today, but i mean the new ones looks alright but the front end looks a little more ugly in my opinion lol :)
@@elijahharvey01 I especially like this generation over the remodel that followed it
@@Dc144_1 oh that's nice
Lots of boomers in this comment section
@@elijahharvey01 this truck here is exactly what I want in my coming days. The newer models are alright, but anything is better than the 2020s models
if that was my truck, the first thing I would do is take those stupid covers over the brake lights off.
Yes!! Me too! I hate add-on's. Especially those!!!! Gawdy!
Lol I was just thinking that.
DustyChevy xs
Love chevys but those are fuckin HIDEOUS
DustyChevy same
Nice truck, no visible smoke, coolant reservoir is clear, injectors tick sounds healthy, no boost leaks from the sound while driving. 109k miles low miles, no hitch In the bed so wasn’t used to towed a lot. All in all that’s a clean truck.
This is a pretty solid truck
@TrucksNTracks ha ha you are just like my dad
For those who wanted to know the songs on the radio from 6:35 to 6:53, the first one was "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins, and the second one was "Break" by Three Days Grace. You're welcome.
Thank you
We got a 2003 silverado 2500 hd, and I've never seen a truck work as much as this thing! We've pulled an 18 wheeler who was stuck in mud out a few years back! He was pretty shocked!
That's exactly why I own an 02 durmax and my dad has an 87 silvarado longbed. U can't break them if u tried lol. Sure the interiors ain't as nice as the cummins and powerstroke but u just can't beat silvarados they are always the best. I love mine so much haha
That engine started the quiet diesel craze in the big 3. I worked for Gm when those were new. Ugg colors tho, and 2wd. Neat vid. Thanks
I love this generation, The GMT800 with LB7 Duramax is probably my favorite Diesel/Truck combination of all time for a pick up. I don't like the newer styles personally and these LB7s are powerhouses. You can get 900whtq and over 400rwhp easily with simple bolt on upgrades and a tuner. Amazing power.
Agreed, especially 12 years later!
If there is one thing I have noticed through these vids is that the Duramax is definately a quieter then the 5.9 Cummins and the 7.3/6.0 Powerstroke! I love Chevys!
Gotta love hearing that Alison transmission shifting. Just clean smooth shifts every time.
I got to say that as someone who drives this everyday I have no complaints 🖒🖒
Thanks to this guy I finally decided what truck I want thank you my good sir
If they are car shopping, a video review is nice to have. In my opinion, this guy is the best.
As a Ram owner. 97 360 V8 i think a Duramax is my next truck. Even tho the ram is with me for life
Mine is pretty well equally clean but is an LT. Amazing truck, my favorite vehicle I've owned!
I’m glad to have found this video. I’ve been wanting one of these 01-02 Duramax trucks for 8 years now and I believe I found one I want to pull the trigger on. These rigs are hands down my favorite
Edit: I ended up buying the truck and it has not disappointed me one bit. You just have to know when buying an LB7, you have to save for injectors because they will go out. I just did mine and I love the truck even more now
you are definitely a car enthusiast like me, you listen to the tone quality of every engine!
This engine has awesome sound, you can here the turbo very clear ,and it sounds like a great v8 diesel .
That's a very nice truck. I like everything about it. I especially like the Chevy symbols on the tailights.
FINALLY A DURAMAX!! The best diesel on the market! Chevy/GMC D-maxs are the best!
I love these pre-emissions diesels, like these. So much more reliable and cheaper to maintain.
The owner traded that truck in at 109k because it needed injectors you can get tell when he revs it you see white smoke caused by injectors leaking and burning more fuel.
Hello By how much is a repair like that for a diesel? Rough estimate
Carlos Jaramillo 5-6 k was what it is for where I live which is the Napa Valley for all 8.
My friend's sister has an 02 Duramax as well. The first thing I noticed when I started it was that the injectors were out; it was blowing smoke through the air vents. Can anyone tell me why a lot of the 01-2 Duramaxes have so much injector problems?
JDFan98 its called hazing it happens over age. If you have 1 or 2 faulty injectors you should replace them all, it is a costly job and no point waiting for the rest to go and having to repeat the same process. This truck is nice- shame its 2wd.
Its also being revved cold and not at operating temp! Which will cause it to be hazy. CP4 gonna be strained since there is less than a 1/4 tank and prob no sump or lift pump
My dad just got a 04 gmc duramax very nice
That's the truck I'm going to buy when I made up Private First Class or Lance Corporal. Very cool truck.
eddie montoya how's your journey to Lance Corporal going?
@@DrBeastmode727 I think he is an officer
I am a 44 the 4 -the 444e
Still in the military a decade later?
look like Andre's duramax but the rims and tail lights, grill different, aftermarket exhaust, same color from the fast lane truck.
the best looking truck love it
CHEVROLET CHEVROLET CHEVROLET!!!
Ford For Life!!!
No
CUMMINS!
Is it too much to ask for both?
@@johnphilips6868 Chevy is the best
You can hear that Allison whine at low speeds. You know you've got a good transmission under you when you hear that.
Transmissions arnt supposed to whine. The whine u hear is the turbo
Cody Zent It may have been the turbo but a lot of older Allison transmissions used to whine.
My dad has a 2002 3500hd dually and just last summer he spent a shit ton of money on new rocker panels and cab corners as well as having the frame undercoated and having oil(I believe its oil) sprayed in the panels because they were rusted out. When I save up for a diesel I'm definitely gonna get an 01-02. My favorite body styles!!
We have a 2002 3500 extended cab dually with a manual transmission
Levi Emerick I have an 01 silverado 1500 with a 5.3l that has over 240.000 miles on it and still runs great.
Levi Emerick I love the '03 style best
I like the style to 99-02
Jack Carroll 05 to 07 are my personal favorite silverado years
Im not really a fan of Chevy, but i love the interiors of late 90's early 2000's. And those power specs are more than i had ever expected. Its an eye opener XD.
i love that Duramax sound
The cummins definitely has that 6 cyl whiney raspy sound, with an aftermarket exhaust it always reminds me of an 18 wheeler tractor trailor. The powerstroke always has a distinct whistle to me along with a slight v8 sound. The duramax definitely reminds me of a typical Detroit Diesel 4 stroke V8 like the 6.2, 6.5 as well as the medium duty 8.2L fuel pincher of the 1980s. it has a real throaty V8 diesel clack with a slight turbo whistle.
This is the best looking Chevy ever!
I just wish he would have offered some feedback on how this model compares with the Ford and Dodge where drivability is concerned. Isn't that the point of a test drive?
totaly agree with you . i love this body style of silverado i think they went from like 00 til 06.5 . correct me if im wrong
2000truckman This body style went until 2007 and the newer style came out in 2007.5. However the front end was changed in 2003 and again in 2005/2006ish
okay good to know. these whole body style changes and the mid year front end changes seem very confusing
zkolich88 thanks for the reply though
@@badeshka1 It was 99-07.
Loved hearing the little bit of Phil Collins "Against All Odds" when you first turned on the radio. Great vid like always.
Is it only me or everyone I love the steering wheel
I like steering wheel also
Its so simple and good looking
the front ends on these trucks look so good
Nice truck! Only 109K miles, too. My dad has an '05 GMC 3500 DuraMax. It's a great truck!
I love column shifters
As much as I love the sound of the Dodge Ram cummins Kyle test drove a while back this truck is a hell of a lot more refined inside.
I have a 2002 Chevy 2500hd,Silverado Duramax with Allison. Just got injectors replaced and EFI tunes added. AWESOME TRUCK!!! But, I always said that if you could have a 5.9 Cummins, a Chevy body and ride with an Allison, and a Ford frame and running gears... you'd have a perfect truck.
That LBZ Duramax sounds good
it’s an LB7
Spinoman really means powerstroke>dirtymax>precummins I'm a ford guy myself but this thing is pretty nice. Sounds good and except for some cheesy exterior "face lifts" it looks pretty nice too. Grew up in a gmc so this things familiar to me lol
I have absolutely NO need for a 2500 diesel but they're attractive to me for some reason.
I prefer powerstroke diesel than duramax but it does look nice
bob bib well, I only like the 7.3, however the 6.0 can be a good engine like in 2005 to 2007 when they upgraded it and fixed some problems
I like Duramax and Powerstroke equally, I can't get down with no cummins though
One of my favorite frontends
So clean for its age
Thumbs up for a new test drive!
Just drove a 06 duramax and it was pretty fricken sweet. She sure hauled ass.
My grandpa has the same exact truck and it’s going to be mine.
Duramax is King. Nothin better than it
Beautiful truck
Wow a 2002.... man look how time flies. Imagine the original owner driving this to and from work. Original owner has to be a construction worker or similar trade.
I love everything about my 2004 GMC SIERRA 2500HD LB7 Duramax. I'm going to keep her till she dies.
radical taillight covers
Like a rock
by far the best hd diesel out there! the 6.0 powerstroke sucks and the cummins in the ram outlasts the truck it self, the chevy has the best ride and is the most refined by far.
these things really have some get up and go
Beautiful truck!!!
1:05 heavenly V8 sound, gives me goosebumps!!
Awesome!! Three days grace on the radio:) nice truck
Allison was not optional, ALL Duramax had the Allison. It was also on the 8100 powered trucks. They had an option of a stick shift.
Where do you find such clean older model trucks like this they look brand new
Best sounding Duramax Diesel in my opinion.
THIS truck is on eBay (on July 8)! For sale in Kernersville NC with like 40 more miles than here
love the test drive videos. you should do more if you have the time :)
the 1999-2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 was assembled in
Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
Flint, Michigan, United States
Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States
Pontiac, Michigan, United States
Silao, Mexico
Caracas, Venezuela
I love this truck, I want it sooo bad!!!
Go for it just got one its amazing you won't regret it
I like this kind of truck not to fancy but very nice daily driver
gotta love the play in the steering, i got a 04 f250 that does the same thing haha
@powerstroke279 He could compare say 3 2005 trucks, or 3 2012 trucks.
Im a Ford guy. But the Duramax is a great engine. Only a fool would disagree. All the arguing is pointless. All engines have their pros and cons.
@whatthehallbetch If you hook up a mechanical gauge up to it, you'll notice the gauge in the dash stays the same whereas the mechanical gauge will go up and down.
Not sure why they included a gauge if it's not functional. If I remember right, there were a few reflashes for the last Jeeps to have them (Grand Cherokees, Wranglers and Cherokees with the 4.0) that turned the oil pressure gauge into a fake one too!
I for some reason like the Duramax more than the Powerstroke in terms of reliability and sound. The Duramax has a throatier rasp to it. But when it comes to sheer pulling torque the Cummins paired to a Allison manual transmission is where it is at. And I am a Chevy fan myself. I have just seen too many Powerstokes broke down or blowing up.
Yup Jeremy is right it is a straight pipe
same here buddy im a die hard chevy fan but i love me a second gen Cummins.
can you test drive the new 2019 ford f450 platinum dually
truck has a good take off
id love to have one of these but more around the end of the generation, like a 2006-2007 ive heard the most common problem with these are the fuel injectors failing
@randomhero713 actually the GMC did change their grille in 03 and the interiors on both trucks were updated.
Such a shame that the LB7s have insanely expensive injectors. Also, this is the best Chevy truck design imo.
@hashslinging those steering wheels are on the 1999-2002 silverados
If My dad owned it we would enjoy it
great video, more trucks please.love the sound
Duramax! Great video as always Kyle!
Best chevies ever made.
@whatthehallbetch He is *kind of* right. On a lot of engines, the location of the oil pressure sending unit is such that if the engine sludge up and plugs the pick up for oil it will peg the oil pressure gauge at the max. A cold engine is going to have higher oil pressure anyway.
@MrChevyman95 this has the lb7.... lb7 was the first then in 04.5 came the lly. In 06 they switched to a different lly that basically was the same as the lbz just lower power. The lbz came in 06.5. After that was the LMM and now the LML
"Just in case the camera is'nt working or your screen is in black and white this vehicle is in fact gold, as I will note multiple times through out this thorough reveiw"
Hahaha when he said unique raised hood the captions said Younique.
Hey man could you also do a test drive in a Caddilac Seville from 1998-2004? TY
u should make a test drive video of a new chevy duramax and a tour 1
I really like the model do another truck like it.
@hashslinging The newer steering wheels are actually a lot nicer I think, to have all the display functions like anything to do with gas, hours on the engine, miles, it has multiple trips that you can have on or off. And you can control the radio from the steering wheel which doesn't seem that big but it is very nice to have.
The 03-07 steering wheel is nicer than this one
Nice
yes..have you seen the benz 6.5l or the 6l bmw or maybe the bentley6.75l...each of these engines have more over 500bhp's
@ParkerMHarless Thats not bad considering the weight of the truck. 2011 Duramax LML trucks run 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds.
why cant they just make a duramax and a cummins mix because there both great engins!!!!!!!
is that the original steering wheel? ive been looking for a 2500HD with a steering wheel like that but cant seem to find one?
@Righty736 makes sense, even when my rusted out oil pan let all the oil leak out while i was driving, the gauge still said i had pressure
Looking at getting my first truck and thinking of making it a diesel
@89NAYG they've been saying that for a while now, i first saw it in the suburban 2500hd z71 diesel concept. i really wish they'd go back to diesels in the half tons. Thanks man, yea i always get my gen's messed up.
