Evacuation Horns Sounded in Detroit Fire Firefighters Evacuate Building March 25th, 2018

- After an aggressive interior attack, Detroit firefighters are ordered out of the building and into a defensive posture. The horns you are hearing are done to let companies on the fireground know that evacuation has been ordered.
The eeriest sound you will ever hear as a firefighter, especially if you’re inside the structure and you’re busy battling the blaze and don’t hear the radio call
I was nozzleman, a probie at the time, inside a commercial building structure fire years ago. We were battling the fire from downwind. 40mph winds and snowing outside. The roof collapsed upwind from us, opening up and blowing all hell right at us. Evac horns started blaring. It was time to go. I haven't heard that sound of Evac horns in years. When it's pitch black and smokey inside, not seeing your hands in front of you and you hear this, you really don't know what's going on other than it's time to get out quick... it's an experience that stays with you. We were all fine in the end. I had good guys inside with me!
I thank you for your service!! I can say for certain as a civilian, that horn pattern terrifies me. I want to say that I'm so glad you were okay when that incident happened. The world is a better place with you in it!
if you are a firefighter like myself and you hear that signal get out of the scene as quickly as possible and take defence position outside the structure or whatever your in as a first responder I've heard this and as soon as I hear it I'm out of the building with my colleagues and helping them get out as well
I still can’t hear this without my heart immediately going to my throat and tears welling in my eyes. My son used to be a firefighter, twice I heard this.. once they were called out to a hotel explosion they expected a mass casualty event.. my son was off but everyone was called in. I took him and helped them set up command and passed out waters etc. (busy work). My son and multiple other firefighters were inside when the roof went. The gave the Evac Warning. There were a number of VERY tense moments before everyone was accounted for and shockingly only one person lost their life, the maintenance worker for the hotel.. the other was a massive old textile mill in the middle of Carrollton, it went up and they had to call for help from multiple other departments. We were actually in town when my son spotted the smoke and went looking for the fire. We were the first call to 911. I again volunteered to help in the mobile command. The building collapsed and again they gave the Evacuation tones. Nothing can surpass that absolute gut punch not knowing where your friends and family are

Every time I hear this I tear up. I’m no firefighter and applaud the ones who are. These sirens would terrify me if I was in a burning building

It’s supposed to just be 3 times. Detroit does it different I guess
I've heard just 3x as well, but in my mind the #1 goal is notifying your crews to evacuate. They may be deep in the structure, and sounding the horn over and over increases the odds they'll hear the notification.
I'd just keep going until everyone is coming out
Well, they hear that that means only one thing to firefighters inside that building That means that building is an eminent danger of collapsing and get your ass out of there right away
@@MattyC62185 00:50 it looks like the bricks along the roof trusses were already busted away and repaired at one point, so the chances that it would happen again are great, especially since the entire roof was on fire
It sounds like each truck is sounding there horns in succession notifying that companies crew to evac.

Where is that rumble in the fire trucks horn.
I’m not sure exactly but I believe it’s due to a difference in air pressure being pushed through the horn

I’m not entirely confident in my answer, but I’ve heard one of the numerous reasons that call can be made is due to the structural integrity of the place on fire is weakening or on the verge of collapse
@@hogflies3208 it’s just for evacuation of the building/house etc but you’re right, it could also use for a major gas leak caught by someone and before it explodes they get evacuated

No... thats the "GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE BUILDING NOW!!!" alarm, because the damn building is in danger of collapsing on top of you. They're firefighters, they know theres smoke, thats kind of why they're there, to fight a fire.
What the hell
It means "DROP EVERYTHING AND GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE BUILDING NOW!!!" because somethings wrong, whether it be a problem with the water supply, flashover risk, risk of explosion, or in this case, if i had to guess, the building is ready to collapse
Those horns either need a cleaning or a diaphragm replacement.
Why were they honking the horn
Just another way of letting everyone on the fireground know to get out. The Battalion Chief was worried about the chimney falling in and causing a collapse.
Oregon and Beechwood
It's a widely recognized way in many departments to order an evacuation of all personnel inside the fire structure. You can't always hear radio traffic inside, but long blasts on the air horns are still able to be heard, and when you're inside and hear that you know to evacuate the structure immediately.
