Still some of the absolute best ever made. Half the polymer junk they put out today isn't half as good! If you want a polymer pistol GLOCK & HK used to be your only game. It still pretty much is since the others are cheap knockoffs safe for the Sig Sauer SP-2022 Sig PRO of the same era that is still a mighty fine pistol. It's a poor mans P-226 that shoots almost as well for less than 1/2 the price.
I bought my USP 45 in 1996, and never really cared for the double action trigger pull since the grip is slightly large for my hand. I installed HK's 'Match Trigger' kit and OMG what a difference!!! The trigger pull is smoother, is reduced by more than 1 lb. in both double and single action, and the reset is shorter. It is definitely worth the $120 price for the Match Trigger kit.
This was my first “real” pistol I purchased in 1997. The USP .40 version. Not the most ergonomic, but built like a tank, accurate, and super reliable. You’ve inspired me to dig it out of the safe and put a few rounds through it this week. 😆
Shot one at the range today for the first time and loved it. Didn’t realize how much they cost though. Very helpful video and I could tell you love this firearm!
I bought my USP .45 compact for $425 out the door with 2 mags that were a police trade in .. so they are out there for good price. Carried it with no issue for 3 years before retiring it to the M&P 2.0 compact. Had to go to the safe and pull ol girl out and found that I could have carried it cocked and lock. Perhaps, but I do not like polymer frames at all. I love my HK Mk 23's, but I do not like the polymer frames. I wish really HK would make the Mk 23 with a steel frame and no decocker. Move the safety forward and make it a tad bigger. Use the 1911 as a guide. Finally, make the frame with a dedicated pic rail. Beyond those things, it would be a perfect handgun. I put a GG&G pic rail on mine and had Tooltech Gunsight in Oxford, MI to custom install a set of tritium night sights - the only ones in the entire country to do this with Mk 23's...!! Bright green dot on the front, yellow dots on the rear. They'll give you your choice of colors..!! All tritium "dots" are surrounded by white circles.
This was the first handgun I ever shot, and the gun that hooked me on the sport! Rarely shoot it any more, but one I will never get rid of....... Thanks for the video, been really enjoying your channel lately!
It's so hard getting any variant of USP in my area but I finally managed to add this full size 45 to my collection.it's such a beautiful and perfect combat pistol 😍
The HK USP's are fine German type writer that last the test of time. By far my favorite pistols period, I have no problem paying more for a quality HK.
I have the usp 45, compact tactical hk45, hk45 full size, and the mk23. The hk45 is the best feeling, the compact tactical is the most practical, the mk23 is the smoothest shooting. @@alcodie1558 And the HK is much much cheaper than the FNX, at least here in Austria I can get the tactical HK 45 USP for 1100€ and the FNX is at 2100€ wtf.
I've owned 323 firearms in my 19 years of firearms ownership. I do a lot of buying, selling, and trading and don't have all of them now obviously. 60% of them were handguns. My favorite 2 are the West German Sig P226 and the HK USP45. I still love many others and you can never go wrong with a Glock. I own 5 of them currently and carry a Glock30 everyday. I do see them more as tools however and they make excellent ones. Great video.
The H&K USP 45 is rated for 45 super out of the box. Only recommendation is change the spring after 10,000 rounds. That puts it in the 10mm range. The HK45 is not rated to use 45 super. I have 3 USP 45's. Never had a malfunction in any of them. And fed a diet of 45acp and 45 super. It's one of the few automatics I trust as much as a revolver.
Also the trigger pull can be greatly smoothed out just by swapping in the match nickel plated sear spring. It's a tricky flat spring install but you can do it yourself without too much difficulty.
The USP is a plain old fashioned work horse that does it job every time and simply smiles and asks for more. It will always be relevant and will always have a spot on any firearms want list. Everyone talks about glocks as the benchmark in reliability but the HK makes even glocks look unreliable. Btw... it’s just not the same wo the threaded barrel. Never understood why the principle of silenced pistols is even offered wo one?
There is a reason why special ops around the world still uses it: It's reliable and able to fire up to 45 super out of the box. In my opinion, the best handgun from the 90's. It should also have been adopted by other branches of military, such as Navy and Marine Corps. With hot loads, it can have more than twice as muzzle ennergy as a standard 9mm, so 12 rounds of these count as more than 20 9x19mm shots, meaning you have far superior stopping power.
If anyone didn't know, HK recently stated that due to their new manufacturing facility in Georgia the MSRP of P30s is dropping to around $719 instead of over $1000. HK45 MSRP is also dropping by about 30%. I hope that price drop carries over to the USPs as well.
HK would probably drop the USP if it weren't for the fact that they still have a lot of military contracts, foreign and domestic (Germany) for them. Though the P30 family is made here in the states now, I think it doubtful that they will gear up to produce USPs here. The price for them is likely to remain fairly high. I prefer them over HK's newer offerings, personally.
I was hoping you did a review on the Olin Boulder light but I haven't found one. Have you reviewed any of their lights? I have a OLD pro-tec light that has a spring loaded base. NO ADAPTERS fits Weaver picatinny or glock and HK. Without changing anything. The Pro-Tec light is 13 years old fits perfectly on my 1995 USP45. Wish my Olin Baldar R laser light 100, 300, 1350, lumens with 5w green laser had the same multi base as the pro-tec. But with QD like Olin.
Yes I have. I love Sigs, have several 226/229s. However, I used to have a ton of 1911s but sold them all because I have moved away from low capacity guns. 12 is as low as I will go now (and that is only for .45) so that rules out the 220 and 227. Incidentally it is also why I never warmed up to the HK45.
Yeah, cause I want to carry guns with a 3" long magazine extension announcing to the world that there is something under my shirt or I have a strange growth/mutation.
I’ve been needing a double action in my collection for the longest time and I always said I would get an HK USP because I’m too poor for a mk23 and today I actually have one coming into my lgs reserved for me so I’m just watching this to continue the hype
I thought about selling my USP to upgrade to the Mk23.... but then I remembered that I don't sell ANYTHING firearm related anymore and i'll just have to save save save to get the Mk23... ;)
I have one of the NATO green threaded barrel HK45Cs and love the thing.. super accurate, great trigger (especially in single action, doubles a bit heavy), I really like the look of the compact model compared to the finger grooves and spiderman pattern of the full size version too. Definitely worth the $900 Canadian I payed for it, need to get my hands on a USP to compare one of these days.
- YosemiteSam357 HK just slashed the prices on the HK45, HK45C, and P30 here in the states. Trying to decide to go with the HK45C or P30 9mm. I’m with you on the Spider-Man grips, and why I’m leaning towards the HK45C that doesn’t have them.
It was at least five years since I have owned or shot a .45 caliber gun. The first time with it,I wasn't used to it. Everything went right through,no issues. Yesterday, felt a lot better. I did a lot of dry firing which helped. .45 has always been challenging for Me. I am determined to do better with it. It's a beast!
Wound up finding a safe queen for $600 couldn't pass it up. This and my Sig 1911 are my primaries. This is seriously my favorite. 45 outside of a 1911 and definitely a keeper . Cannot be happier with it
My HK USP .45C is my every day carry piece since I first got it almost 20 yrs ago. Not a single malfunction, ever. By far, the best gun I've ever owned.
It's subjective, but I think the lines on the USP line are just elegant. No front serrations, I know that's the new hotness today, but the straight lines in the front of the USP just looks bold and business-like. That blockiness but with chamfer corners. And for me, personally, that back/beavertail section gives the USP that unique look that you can instantly recognize. If HK had made the triggers better and better mag capacity (although the 12+1 mag option isn't anything to sneeze at on a fullsize .45acp)
Try the double action trigger on the Expert model. It’s smooth. There was no excuse for not putting on a 1913 Rail from the start, my only complaint. There are a plenty of adapters for this rail including the Sure Fire model. Work arounds to find a holster are difficult.
I know this is an old vid but I want to add something. The USP was originally built around the 40sw. round. When they did the original testing the purposely tested the gun with a squib. The bullet was recessed approx 1 cm from the muzzle. It was then fired again to clear the squib. Other than some minor bulging in the barrel it still functioned. In fact it ran another 5k rounds with reasonable accuracy before they changed the barrel for a different round of testing. Definately a well built pistol.
Great review, as always. I have the same model, built like a tank, a great weapon. Mine was manufactured in 1999, I bought it about 10 years ago. Since it had some age on it, and it was a police trade in, I replaced all of the springs. As for the double action, on the HK Pro forum they recommended to replace the factory hammer spring (14 lbs) with one of the reduced power hammer springs that Wolff Springs offers. Either the 10 or 12lbs. If you do change the hammer spring, just try various types of ammo to make sure you don’t have any light prime strikes. But I think you can handle that. 😊. On a side note, concerning the comment below, as for this being a “dinosaur gun”, it’s still going strong!
Had mine out shooting it on the plate machines last weekend. It was the fist time I'd had it out at the range in a long time but I was mowing those plates down pretty good (for me) with it. The one thing I really wish they would have changed by now is to go with the picatinny rail and dump that goofy HK proprietary rail.
Yeah just like you said it is still on the CA roster and sells pretty well from what I hear. I'm not a fan of the DA/SA design generally, but this gun is an exception.
I bought a used one from Cabela's back in 2012 for $600. It's been a trusty firearm these past 8 years. I found replacing the recoil spring to be troublesome but otherwise no issues. I've always been a "1911 guy" but I do enjoy my USP too and I actually like it better than my Kimber (a basic but accurate and trustworthy Custom I model) for a couple aspects like the 3-dot sights and ammo higher capacity.
USP 45 is a tank for sure... but holy cow is the HK45 awesome. That tan HK45 at the 13:27 mark sure looks nice. I really think you have to own one USP 45 and multiple copies of the HK45.
Heck ya! My favorite suppressed handgun is my USP 45 Tactical with a Osprey 45! They go like two peas in a pod! Hoping the new tomb raider movie inspires HK to rerelease their USP match pistols...
I carried this one on duty for years. Trained with it extensively. One of the most accurate pistols I've ever had the privilege to use. This gun is the definition of a combat or "fighting" gun...not so much for personal/concealed carry, but unsurpassable in reliability. One thing I could have done without, is that it's a bitch to clean compared to Glocks. I dealt with it, though.
Great review, no doubt one of the best 45’s out there to this day . Key factor it feeds anything. Like the CZ 97 . I. ( Quote I ) Seem to like the all metal guns more , than the polymer ones....
It would be my go to pistol as well , I would trust my life to it any day I love my hk45 also but I seem to shoot my usp better . It's probably the only polymer framed hand gun i own that feels as solid as a steel framed gun in my hand , most might disagree but thats my opinion .
I've handled alot of pistols from good brands even sig cz newer hks and b&t usw. But the usp when you rack the slide back and forth the thing feels like a damn tank and so smooth. Other pistols just dont feel like it idk what it is about it but the thing is like butter
2023 here. I have an Elite and it’s still an exceptional firearm. Is it the flavor of the month? No, but what it does have is a track record. For me, that’s better than any flashy new pistol. But some people are never happy unless they have the newest crap.

The UTL M2 with led upgrade is the best option for ups light so glad I found one.
It is still my .45 of choice. I tried the FNX due to the +3 capacity but IMO, that was all it had. I sold it. Didn't care for the RMR setup either.
Christopher Johnson have you shot a Sig P220?
You can get base plates for the HK 45, or practically any polymer gun these days. Factory capacity is pretty much irrelevant.
Yeah, cause I want to carry guns with a 3" long magazine extension announcing to the world that there is something under my shirt or I have a strange growth/mutation.
I too, didn't care for the FNX....it felt cheap and I just didn't like ANYTHING about it but the mag capacity.
Dam right it's relevant. I still carry a usp 40. Great review
Thank you
But is 40 Short and Weak still relevant?
My friend, i have small hands, the USP .40 fits better than .45 in you opinion?
I have the H&K USP COMPACT 45 AND THE VERIDIAN X5L (GEN2) LASER LIGHT fits perfectly on that rail and I bought it California.
I just like the USP! The HK45 I LIKE It too! Mike thank you very much. Good man!
I’ve been needing a double action in my collection for the longest time and I always said I would get an HK USP because I’m too poor for a mk23 and today I actually have one coming into my lgs reserved for me so I’m just watching this to continue the hype
I thought about selling my USP to upgrade to the Mk23.... but then I remembered that I don't sell ANYTHING firearm related anymore and i'll just have to save save save to get the Mk23... ;)
LMAO! The shot with the round loaded into the magazine backwards!
2004 SHOT show! Ahh, to be young again...

HK just slashed the prices on the HK45, HK45C, and P30 here in the states. Trying to decide to go with the HK45C or P30 9mm.
I’m with you on the Spider-Man grips, and why I’m leaning towards the HK45C that doesn’t have them.
Going to the range with My new to me usp 45!!! Very excited. 300 plus rounds of various ammo.
🇺🇸
It was at least five years since I have owned or shot a .45 caliber gun. The first time with it,I wasn't used to it. Everything went right through,no issues. Yesterday, felt a lot better. I did a lot of dry firing which helped. .45 has always been challenging for Me. I am determined to do better with it. It's a beast!
Hell yes it’s still relevant! I have 2 . A compact and tactical and both are flipping amazing!
Good call on the tlr-3
Love the compact
Right on
Wound up finding a safe queen for $600 couldn't pass it up. This and my Sig 1911 are my primaries. This is seriously my favorite. 45 outside of a 1911 and definitely a keeper . Cannot be happier with it
Will be getting my grey framed USP 45 out of layaway in a couple weeks. Can’t wait!
nice
The image with rounds load in the magazine backwards was a nice historical joke for those who remember it. Well played! Lol
🇺🇸
Just gathered a 9mm usp expert and a 45 usp! Dream pistols of mine!
@Mrgunsngear Channel. @2:03. I see what you did there! 😎 Classic.
I carried my H&K USP .45 Compact today to the range 👍
nice
I love the USP because of the movie Collateral, plus it's the best looking gun in my opinion
Shot the VP9 for the first time today. Super in love.
nice
One of the best combat 45s ever made. To me a poor mans Mark23.
Indeed
"poor man" being relative. I had to buy a police trade, even though this was my favorite pistol long before I started buying guns
Daryoush Borja can’t touch a clean mark23 for less then 2g
@@jasonhatez3287 Found one brand new at my gun dealer for $1800.
Evin07 really. Good shape. Or is it pitted and abused.
2024 now…yes it’s still good. And HK didn’t use me as a beta tester. USP Expert 45 in the nightstand and USP C 45 EDC. 🎉
I bought the hk45. I wish I got the usp. I usually do the elite spring kit on the trigger.
H&K 45 usp, probably the best 45 ever made
Instant like for the correct magazine loading technique.
great video keep it up
Yeah just like you said it is still on the CA roster and sells pretty well from what I hear. I'm not a fan of the DA/SA design generally, but this gun is an exception.
The HK USP series of firearms is one of the FINEST in the world... period.👍🏼
The GG&G adapter is pretty solid and really doesn’t change the access of the light
perhaps but it will limit holsters
Indeed. To me on a fullsize USP I want a bigger light with more output than a TLR-3, but you are right about holsters.
Thanks for the review :) As always - good info and well presented!
I love the weapon light shots at night. You can actually see the bullet.
Good stuff. Good gun.
IS IT STILL RELEVANT. As long as its more reliable than most handguns on the market, it always will be.
Caught the backwards round in the magazine mike lol. I remember seeing that ad.
Probably the Dow Corning coating? maybe....
just purchased 45 acp from Freedom Munutions using your code.... thank you, great review on pistol
Good video
How dare you post a new video while I'm in the middle of watching another one of your videos! Keep up the good work 👍
2023 here. I have an Elite and it’s still an exceptional firearm. Is it the flavor of the month? No, but what it does have is a track record. For me, that’s better than any flashy new pistol. But some people are never happy unless they have the newest crap.
