I still come back to these videos just to hear oli shred. He’s just one of those guitar players I’m absolutely amazed by. His phrasings, his feel, down to the very fiber of the song that he is so knowledgeable of. Oli was an is… will always be a true musician. A true legend. Gone but far from forgotten.
Just heard that Oli has passed away. Huge loss to music as a whole. I eventually did learn this at full speed, thanks to this video. Had to come back and watch it again! #RipOli
Oli Herbert, what is there to say man but you were one of a kind and I regret never being able to see you guys. If I did now it wouldn't be the same, not even close. RIP, Oli. I know you're upstairs shredding with Dime, Venny, Paul Gray, Dio, Wayne Static, and whoever else I'm missing.
I do the same exact thing he does in this vid. I can run my arpeggios and chomatics clean at full speed, but when I try to teach someone note by note at a slower speed, I get sloppy and my clarity goes all to shit.
At "up to tempo" I had to just laugh out loud. It's like the difference between learning the sounds of each letter of the alphabet to speaking in complete, multi-phrase sentences. I disagree with some of the comments regarding his live play... I've only seen them twice but Oli was on point both times from my recollection...
Thanks for reuploading this...I tried to play this a long time ago and I could never get it but I've definitely gotten better since then, going to give it another try. Been at it for about an hour or so and I can get it perfect at 155 BPM. Too tired to keep going, maybe tomorrow I'll get it faster. Funny though I just noticed that in the slow part in the beginning, he screwed it up! LoL And he wrote it!!
Cool, that there's anyone else who needs it :D In general, I don't like his style but on a technical view he's a monster. His music is awesome and playing sound great on records. He probably screwed it up in the beginning because of "stage fright". I personally hate playing in front of a camera, makes everything harder.
I don't like his style either to be honest, when he plays live or on camera, I find he is very messy and does not stay in sync with the drums (which IMHO is the most important part of any guitarist, lead or rhythm), but on the album it sounds pristine, better than Malmsteen or any one of the other greats could accomplish. I think his real talent is as a writer...I could not write the solo riffs he does on my best days.
I love the unique and unpredictable patterns he uses!! it would be seriously hard for me to learn a solo from oli. you're much better than batio in my opinion.
Fret rubbing wears slight grooves on the underside of each string, plus dirt accumulation makes individual notes sound out of tune when they aren’t. Sounds nasty at the start of this, but awesome towards the end when played fast. Great guitarist. Well done to you on your successes Oli! RIP.
Minor triadic inversions. hmm i dont seem to understand your intellectual alienonic musical phrasing as well as playing your fine piece of metallic heaven. You have confused and diminished my motivation on playing lmao ur just too fuckin good sir. may you RIP bro it just wasnt time for u to go😢
Lol, man doesn't get hair like that by intaking a bunch of junk. He appears clean; his eyes are clear. I don't believe Oli ingested a bunch of crap. RIP, Sir. Love over hate. Sad that it had to be your irate, bitter wife smearing your name.
but I agree with some of the comments in here. oli is a brilliant writer on the albums, but live he doesn't do a good job staying in time with the rest of the band. which is really odd considering how accomplished he is on his axe. don't really understand how someone can be so damn good but be so shaky live. oh well. I can talk my shit all day, but the truth of the matter is that oli is a beast and a better player than I am for sure. I can criticize him all day, but it just makes me look like an ass cuz I am far from his level
Here I am, on an Oli binge spree. I can't believe he's gone. R.I.P
Yes sir2024 me too

Seems like a nice soft spoken guy. Nobody knows what happens behind closed doors but he just sounds like a good dude
guy was (and always will be) one of the best!
Miss Oli he was a great guitar teacher for me.. he let me play that very guitar in his hands such a nice guy 😢
RIP Oli

Bedsheets Bailey SAME HERE LOLOL
I don’t see how anyone but the man himself can successfully play this.. that shits crazy..
No one gives a shit you fool
Lol Clarity is an amazing song. Behind Silence and Solitude was a breakthrough in his style and perfected it in Fall of Ideals
Listen to Clarity, From These Wounds and Behind Silence and Solitude the solos are insane
Rest In Peace Oli 💔
Will always miss you.
Miss u Oli you were one of my guitar hero's rip

Exactly, think the same.
Genius. RIP Oli 😥
He was so technical, is a sad moment for metal community

I hate batio. His solos are so boring man. He just plays full speed. Its not fun to listen to.
YESSS THANK YOU
+Jeremy Schecter Glad that I could help you!
All That Remains losing Oli Herbert is almost like Avenged Sevenfold losing The Rev
Me trying to find an all that remains song to play- “nope not this one”
Rip man!!!
That VIBRATO
Rip man 🤘
RIP man

If anyone's interested , I have a guitar tutorial with TABS on how to play the solo from this song : ua-cam.com/video/lHW11dhf_JE/v-deo.html
All that talent, gone…. Just disappears and we left with the music. Sad but grateful
Rip man

What are you blaming his wife for? The guy drowned.
@dixondiaz8448 you are retarded
Playing guitar this well takes crystal concentration. I guess alcohol and or drugs dulled his live playing.
Justin Barratt Well that’s interesting, because he didn’t drink or do drugs...
but I agree with some of the comments in here. oli is a brilliant writer on the albums, but live he doesn't do a good job staying in time with the rest of the band. which is really odd considering how accomplished he is on his axe. don't really understand how someone can be so damn good but be so shaky live. oh well. Not everyone can play on time even if they have great chops
Oli was murdered prove me wrong ?
I bet Drowning Pool was his favorite band
