I actually never realized how complicated this song was until I watched Jason play it just now. Jason you are going to slay these upcoming shows with ATR. What a dream bro. Playing with one of the best metal bands of our time and honoring Oli. You’ve come a long way. Enjoy it.
When Jason calls someone's work tricky.. I think that speaks to the level that Oli was truly writing. Talk shit about their new stuff all you want, but Oli could truly write the most beauuuutiful and hard riffs.
You can tell he really vibes playing their music, but who wouldn’t RIP to Ollie I genuinely feel he was overlooked as possibly being one of the greatest guitar players of all time, dude was seriously amazing
I miss these older All That Remains albums. Oli was such a fantastic writer and a great player. We will all miss him dearly. Thanks for sharing this great cover, would love to see more.
What a king, this solo is incredible and the rendition is masterful. just look at the expressions on Jason's face, this piece, and especially the solo, is full of emotion! it's even funny to see the adan apple move to the rhythm of the piece hehehe what a handsome guy, bravo and thank you for the emotions!
When I saw you perform with ATR last month in KC, it was one of my favorite concerts I've been to. I truly got a bit choked up seeing you guys perform without Oli, although it sounds like he never left. Thank you for stepping up to the plate to follow Oli. Those are some huge shoes to fill, and you did it flawlessly. Thank you for signing the dollar bill to match the one I have signed by Oli. Can't wait to see what the future holds for ATR.
Marcos De Ros JAM !!!!! Jason Richardson I've been a fan for years. This is a daily joy for me, the way you make your songs. Thanks for your sound Jason. We look forward to JAM... BRAZIL
This is the most satisfying playthrough of a song I've ever come across. Seeing you play this really makes the song come alive, every note is played so spot on with the correct accent, as if you are playing off the sheets in front of you. This is truly amazing
See you guys this Saturday!!!! Woo!!! Honestly No one fit better to take the spot. Big deal for metal head fans in Hawaii when bands like you come down here! Much love mahalo!
@Jason Richardson you're the man, leave no man behind in the brotherhood of metal...excellent job, and I hope people take what you're doing as a true act of respect and compassion for other humans, truly happy to see somebody as talented as yourself step up and take the huge reigns that were left behind
Man I legit cried. I don't know, he was just a special kind of guitarist. I love the way you shred this and can hear him coming through, Jason. You could always tell an Oli solo (like Marty, who you can hear in Oli's bends), but every single one was original. I would love to see a video like this of you playing Become the Catalyst off FoI.
Obviously the circumstances are shit... But I am thoroughly excited to see Richardson work with All That Remains. All that Remains has been one of my favorite bands growing up, and Richardson has been one of my favorite guitarists growing up. Mixing two great things usually creates something else great.
Look at his Adam's Apple - you can see how he's "singing" the notes he's playing. As a crap guitarist myself, I also recommend doing this! Seriously though, it has helped tremendously when it comes to complicated measures. By "singing" it you make more sense out of what you're hearing, and subsequently, playing. I would not be as passionate about music and this instrument without the likes of this dude, Polyphia, Aaron Marshall, Nick Johnston, and some others.
I thought it would be rough for anybody to fill those shoes.....I stand corrected. You walked into it without missing a beast. Oli would be very proud. You've sprayed been great and this is further proof
This-Foo 89, you got that right! Oli was a very talented musician and composer! He made metal look like simple whilst he was playing. We miss you Oli Hebert. Metal will never be able to replace you!!!
I remember when I was first getting into metal like 2010 and All That Remains was the first heavy metal band that I liked including this song Fast Forward eight years and I listen to entirely different music Progressive and I'm introduced to Jason Richardson and his guitar wizardry and then sadly Oli passes and one of my current favorite guitar players is playing songs from way back when I first started listening to metal I don't know the whole thing is just surreal. Bittersweet but awesome at the same time🙄🎶 RIP Oli Herbert you will be greatly missed
I caught this man's pick last night at a show. Thought I'd inherit some magical guitar god abilities... Still can't play Smoke on the Water half speed...
@@improvingguitarist1595 Yeah haha, I got really lucky. I saw it fly through the air and bounce off the floor in slow motion and I walked over and grabbed it. I don't know how nobody else saw it. I still keep it on my desk and don't actually play with it.
Thanks for the upload. I learned the whole song some time ago except for 2:57 could never figure that out by ear, but now I have your fingers to watch! Thanks!
I have been playing for 16 years and maybe a year ago got into learning some of the fall of ideals songs starting with the air that I breathe. It was pretty damn hard until I realized what I was playing as a whole and now it's my favorite song to play along to ❤ very clean playing dude 😎🤘🤘
Respect on doing this cover in the wake of brother Oli. Needless to say, the cover was flawless, Jason. Not that anyone would expect anything less from you- at least posting it publicly. 👊🙏
There's no occation where I'm hoping Jason to fail one note of a riff or solo, not for being a jerk but to see he's human, but the more I watch Jason play someone else's extremely technical and difficult music like a piece of cake, the more I'm impressed about how extremely talented and guitar God he is. I mean even when his music is so fucking hard and epic there's more chance for him to play it all well without failing a single note because he wrote it but he doesn't miss a note in any song (I dare to say it) , He's such a superhuman, as an average electric guitar player myself and recently classical guitar student, I can't picture the amount of hours, dedication and training he had, sometimes people just watch videos and say cool guitar player but they don't understand all the impossible that's behind, the theory, the Science, the runs, the speed, the amount of hours to get the proper techniques with perfection, even how hard are some of them which could take several months or even years to master.
I think this technique is called economy picking. There is a guy who teaches it really well, Rick Graham I believe. But it costs about 100 dollars for his complete set of videos, tabs and everything else.
I don't think nobody else could give it so much justice to this song, When I heard of Oli misfortune I literally cried because he is one of my biggest influences in modern metal, I was very happy that you would take the spot you did a great Job!
I got emotional watching this... You are filling some big shoes and its an amazing/ unfortunate opportunity. You're going to be a beast on the tour. Awesome job man!

Dude I was thinking the same exact thing! Lol long live Oli
Jeff T agreed!! It’s so intricate!!
Same here..! It's so difficult to play lol :p Especially the refrain!
That's exactly what I'm thinking right now! Man grade 10 me thought I had this song down. What a fool I was
One of the best songs ATR ever wrote. Definitely my fav by them.
RIP Oli Herbert❤🎸🤘
Just found out that he had died. So sad, his playing influenced me so much when I was a teenager. Rest easy Oli. Jason has big boots to fill.
Ø You're fucked up in the head
He is dead ?

Six is in my opinion one of if not the greatest metalcore solos ever written lol.
I remember watching this when he first posted it after shortly joining the band, crazy how time flies.
That solo was flawless
I figured out the secret... it's all in the Adams apple
glad i'm not the only one who noticed that
Gulping at just the right time releases tension in your wrist allowing you to play faster undt faster.
That thing shreds \M/
just singing what he's playing, steve vai does this too. every player should
Muh thyroid
RIP Oli. You absolutely nailed that solo, Jason.
I like watching his Adam's Apple move while he plays. That's why Jason Richardson is so good, his Adam's Apple is a metronome.
One of few people fit to take his place. If only it was permanent and they continued to write songs like this... RIP Oli
Its official now. Hes permenant.
CoDisafishy you got your wish haha
Well hello I'm from the future and have news.

Why doesn’t this have more views ? This man has surpassed Demi God level & is a God who walk amongst men.
anyone catch that sweet move at 2:20. He flips his pickup back to the bridge and turns the volume up all in one swift motion.
