As worldwide protests against racism and police brutality spreads across the globe, attention has turned to how stereotypical images of people of color are an inherent facet of mainstream culture, right down to our breakfast options. Prompted by this moment of national reckoning, companies are finally being forced to change brands, mascots, and logos that have long been criticized as racist.
For this list, All Things Top 5 looks at the top 5 brands that didn’t age well and that are still around today. With the current social climate changing, they might not be around for long.

I believe this was racist. The truth always shows up right on time. Mgm reminds me about how Rome fell. They've would've probably b in business if all of that wasn't presented in the films. But nobody suffered more hatred than ppl of color.
Yes it is racist!
The PC people are trying to dominate the hell out of all of us. *ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!*
I Don't Find Aunt Jemima, Cream Of Wheat, And Uncle Ben As Offense As People Say, But The Other Brand Mascots Are Offensive.
@@jacobiegooden3532 One has to understand the point in history when these brands used different logos. I have used most of these products and never thought once about racism. Now-a-days the PC NAZIs make everything a *PROBLEM* . They like to stir up the pot and make people angry. Chill and just enjoy life.
Growing up with Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben at our table meant comfort food. They were real down to earth people to us unlike a lot of the overpaid athletes that appeared on the Wheaties cereal boxes over the years!!
When I was a kid I thought they were real and were married. I mean they were an aunt and uncle Afterall..
If people did their history, let the woman who portrayed Aunt Jemima was actually proud of that role. She used the money she earned, to start an actually poverty fund.
I agree. I think it is the height of arrogance to be offended on behalf of others.
You might want to consider enrolling in a remedial English composition course. Or stop typing with your ear.
It's usually the case but the politically correct don't want to hear that. It's like the freak shows now these people were begging in their own countries when they were in the freak shows they were being paid top wages which they were sending home to their poor families but no it's got to go

The man on the cream of wheat box I grew up with seemed warm and kind.
I found something comforting about him and associating that image with the product
Well he didn't have much of a choice but 2 pretend 2b warm & kind seeing how he was working on a plantation!!!😂😂😂
We all did.....times were much simpler then....glad I grew up when I did and so did my son. I miss that dude.
He was just a black man in a chef's hat. Nothing racist there. No different than Chef Boy Ardee.
We was the same way too, nobody cared about what color skin they were back then. We just like the friendly person in the picture and know it was good food.
I’m tired of everything about race. It’s being used when ever is convenient. I thought we are supposed to unit. This country has gone crazy with all this stuff. The person that put this on You tube is the biggest racist pusher. It’s sad!
We had no problems years ago, nobody said anything or thought about it. As far as aunt jamima pancake mix as a white family we loved her picture and knew it was good pancakes lol. Never thought about her being anyone’s slave we just loved her for the person she was and we never knew her .
@Shondala Oaks Common sense land not inhabited by stir it up racists looking for racism everywhere
@Shondala Oaks it's good to be a victim to get attention when you don't actually get whipped every day isn't it
"We had no problems years ago, nobody said anything or thought about it" You mean, back when those people knew their place and didn't open their mouths, right?:
yes, but the issue here is noone stopped to consider how it would make others feel. And to continue to do it after you are told is just mean and spiteful.
@@ChrisWeaver-rw8pt No he means back when people still used their brains and didn't go round making a fuss about nothing and looking for 'racism' everywhere

Right on from a cracker
i sure do miss my auntjimoma buttermilk pankcake mix , when they made the announcements i actually saved 2' empty boxes for historical and collection purposes
Its a shame to remove Aunt Jemima in the since that company was founded by a black woman. IMHO, removing her is racist.
i don't think they're taking away the product, they're just re-branding their logos...
Really! How smart of you!
I saved an unopened box and an unopened syrup
IN Germany, items with the swastika are illegal....get ready....it's only a matter of time before the Dems make what you have, ILLEGAL to own.....just give it time... THINK about THAT next time you VOTE.

All they have to call it is Big Ben's Minute Rice and they'll be in business

You have a good attitude. I never thought too much either, and shows like you say black people can make good chefs. I think Native Indians didn't like some beer called Iron Horse or something or mototr cycle Indian.
Nice
Uncle ben was on drawn together.
He was related to foxy.
As a Mexican I agree 💯

The last two I never heard of. I didn't even know that Eskimo pie calls such controversy. And the first two wouldn't be the same without Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben. It's a wonder they didn't say anything about Land O'Lakes
Inform me about the Land O" Lakes.
Top 5. Ran out of numbers 😃
Oh my god I just saw the Eskimo pie bit . Now we can't call them Eskimos what the f*** the only reason they keep getting offended by what they're called is so they can have committee meetings which are paid for by the government so they don't actually have to do any work in their community . Eskimo racist I've never heard of anything so ridiculous
Land o Lakes removed the Indian, but kept the land.
Sound familiar?
"ct w" But also it is strange that there is a a product called "Bitchin Sauce." Isn't that sexist?
I would probably even add Popeyes to the list too. But at the same time, I think some of these people willingly participated in the commercials, even though they may have been viewed (now) as racist. The problem with current society is that we can (and seem to) make everything about race, even when it really isn't the case....
"H R" Even if they were, (the advertisements with Aunt Jemimah and Uncle Ben) people are sweating the small stuff. It won't do anything about any racism by banning photos or illustrations of black people serving food or wearing clothing from the days of slavery.
It is silly
Changing logos isn't gonna cut or fix anything they'll still be remembered what they stand for
You can’t change how people feel in their hearts. Racism will probably never go away. It exists worldwide.
They (the images) stood for the products they advertised. Nothing more. PC people get a grip.
And they'll remembered by those who long for the days before "Woke and Cancel" Culture took away their fondest memories of the past.
And exactly what did they stand for. Cut the crap none of it is racist. Those people made money because their faces were the face of the product. They happily posed for the photographs. Don’t put anything more on it then there is

the only thing that is racist are the ones calling out these iconic names/brands AS being racist
In the Walt Disney animated film "Dumbo" black southern men were depicted as being crows. There had been quite a stir about this decades after the film's release.
However what I find odd is that there was a 2016 Pixar animated movie called "Sing" and in it there was a depiction of a young male teenager whose father was in jail for being a gang leader and these characters were depicted as being gorillas. I have not heard about the insinuation with that.
In that same movie, Korean young females in a K-pop band are depicted as being red pandas.

The 1989 update of Aunt Jemima was carefully crafted to give her the look of a contemporary woman (black, white or otherwise) at an OFFICE job; not domestic help/maid, while retaining her beautiful, friendly, welcoming face, and it was not controversial from 1989-2020. Change and accountability is definitely long overdue, but it also seems that a fine line has developed between erasing what is considered exploitative and erasing the presence of non white representations from corporate brading and pop cultural art.
Inuit Pie does not have the same ring….
To be fare I think it's right to change the branding... I don't think it's literally the black person on the branding, just as we have white people on branding; Aunt Bessie's in the UK is a good example. Aunt Bessie is symbolised as an old white aunt. The problem with a lot of the brands portrayed in this video is that they have quite unsavoury historical conetations... Just as in UK, Robertsons jam used to use the 'golliwog' logo. The golliwog was a styalised represantion of an African person as seen in the 19th century. I wouldn't want a UK blackchild thinking they are mocked as a golliwog... It would be heart breaking and just wrong... Just as I wouldn't want any child or adult mocked for their cultural heritage... Don't get me wrong as I think political correctness and wokeness can go too far at times, to the point were one can feel scared to voice an opinion. But come on... We don't live in the 18/19th centuries anymore. Anyway that's my opinion for what little it is worth. 🤔
I knew the toothpast would come from some place like

They could of put peter parker’s uncle ben’s face on the Uncle ben rice product instead of a black person’s face and I never heard of the toothpaste that used to be called Darkie before it was called Darlie before I watched this YT video 😱
They could've used the name Aunt Jemima and uncle Ben and just picture Aunt Jamima and uncle Ben as a white or Latino or Asian person so it wouldn't be particularly racist.
