How to cover ugly walls for free (almost)

  • I'm tired of looking at my neighbor's ugly wall so I decided to cover it with the pallets and a few pine beams that I have. I didn't use any finish on the pallets because I like the weathered look. And it just get's better over time. You can find pallets almost everywhere for free and the only thing I needed to buy are the wall anchors and the screws. So I don't really care if I have to remake it in a couple of years.

One of the nicest DIY videos I've seen. No incessant chatter, no irritating "music". Just the true sounds of work well done. I think I could even smell the sawdust. Thanks for a great video.I clicked on your channel to see your other videos and liked what I saw so I came back here to subscribe.

Great simplicity... no music needed, it is ok as it is! Many people do not like silence (even the bit you may enjoy in between tools sounds), but as you may see, many do appreciate... it is not only me in this comments

I love the silence also... but LOVE the sounds of the hand saw and other saws used. My Father was a contractor his whole life and I LOVE watching contractors work while building with wood! My passion, ❤️ I only wish my Father had taught me... but being a “girl” , it was frowned upon back than .
This looks amazing. Best of both worlds to me.... WOOD and STONE foundation.... my 2 great loves!

The endresult is stunning, love it! Good idea to use a reprosaw to get rid of those nasty nails, those are always a pain in the ass, and some nails are so though you will wreck the pallet first before getting them out! Great job!

A narrative would have been nice. Just the sounds of power tools, nail gun, etc..are so soothing if you toss in the smell of saw dust I'm out like a light. Probably comes from being raised by my grandfather. He was a general contractor and always building/fixing something

Could have used some verbal instruction or narrative. The result looked very nice. I'm curious refacing (not sure if that's correct word) wall was an option. Certainly not an almost free choice..
I have a bitch of a time around my neck of the woods finding decent pallets that are free. Got lucky at this one boat shop then made the mistake of sharing that info. Lol

I thought the wall beautiful! You could see the layers of history right their! In many Irish villages and towns THIS is how the buildings look. You see the first layer built by the Viking influence covered up by other layers through the ages. You DID. A wonderful job, no question. And the wood will age. I just liked the story the rock and mortar had to tell.

Nice job ! Thanks from France !
My grandfather made a big barn door this way, some decades ago, then he painted it, with the old motor oil coming from the '63 Massey Ferguson model 30.
He passed away since that time, but the door is almost intact.
No worms will try to eat that wood, and the nails are more protected from the rust too.
A useful way to recycle your (free) old motor oil.

Is that true? Do you suggest I paint my wooden fence with my used car oil? I have had to put in 2 new fences in the last 20 years. Could you tell me more.... I am getting ready to retire so I will not have the funds later on to put up another fence in a fee years. Thanks Fran

I really love how this came out, but I must say I REALLY LOVED the old stone crumbling wall. I suppose this helps hold the roof up some? Us americans don't get to see such old buildings. I want to do this around our mobile home, it's so hard to hide how ugly they are.. this looks pretty cool and would work great for our situation. Thanks for showing such a simple solution.

@ Ken I : No need to wonder but just use your logic think and imagine that the neighbourd wall is infront of your backyard and he doesnt see everytime you are busy working in your backyard as you do. Imagine everytime you wake up open your garage door and that neighbours ugly wall seem to smile back at you with broken old rotten teeth and instead of wondering why you think logically you can't blame him because first of all he doesnt see it as often as you do and it definately irritates you much more than he cares to repair it to please you and that gives you a reason to decide to do something about it and most of all you are technically gifted and happen to have access to free construction materials to give that ugly wall a new face lift something which will give you a smile instead of a frawn and a sense of accomplishment that you did yourself and the neighbour a great favour a win win situation.
That is how i would reason and maybe thats the same motivation behind the crafty gifted man reasoning dont you think the same mr Ken L ? ✌😆👌
