So a young guy at a shop I use to work at showed me an easy way to install the clutch. Just install it on the input shaft and mate the transmission. Bolt the clutch through the inspection cover afterwards. All you do is pry on the clutch a bit and the bolts will start. Been doing it like that ever since.
Damn, I'd definitely need to be a fly on the frame and just watch . I love watching mechanics put their heads together and figure it out, you guys did good, even with the floor jack modification. Pretty cool to watch
As soon as you said all the bolts were o it but it wasn’t coming, I knew exactly what it was 😂 was fortunate enough on my first cascadia to have noticed it after I pulled the linkage. Great video sir
Last several I done we pulled and installed them in the bell housing. That way you don't have to deal with lifting the clutch up by hand. Out clutch jack was broken.
Maybe y’all just didn’t show it but might consider fabbing or buying a rear main seal installer. Unlike the 60 series, 3406, and isx, the dd series engines use a flywheel that rides inside the seal making it a 1 time use seal. At almost 800k miles, that rear main seal is worn out. Other than that suggestion, Good job! That hidden bolt gets folks all the time no matter how many times they read the word “bolt” on the bellhousing... me being one of them lol
I agree with you... pretty much any engine should have the rear main seal replaced while the transmission and clutch are out! They made a huge mistake overlooking that seal.. 😢
Nice little job, I really like the way you modified the transmission jack now I have a few ideas on my own that I can put to work as well because the transmission jacks cost a pretty penny good job guys,👋💪👍👍👍👍
To make job easier, back truck up onto truck ramps on steering axle , lift rear of frame with OTC air jacks. You will be able to roll under steering axle and fuel tanks . The ramp portion facing front of truck leaves room behind steering tires . Never trust a garbage freight jack! Investing in tools will be beneficial and time saving . Safety is # 1. Strap transmission to jack with 1/4 chain and binder or 2 inch ratchet strap. With a friction jack against a crossmember it will easily push transmission forward ,keeping in mind input shaft turns freely to align splines.
Good job, although in reality it took a lot longer than 10 minutes. On those clutches, I used to tightly stretch several bungee cords from up above down to the clutch assembly. That makes the 150 lb clutch weigh almost nothing, that makes it a lot easier when you're doing your clutch job. Also if you'll measure the top and bottom and each side between engine flywheel housing and Trans.bell housing, to get it perfectly in alignment, then it's real easy to stab the tranny to the engine.
Easiest road tractor clutch to replace was a Volvo vn670 with a 9 speed Eaton and Cummins ISX. Absolute worst was a KW T-660 with same transmission and engine. That aftertreatment system was so in the way that you had to remove it to gain access to the transmission cooler lines or to get to the transmission itself. Cascadia kind of right in the middle.
Guys, put a digital protractor on the top of the trans and get the angle when you start. Helpful if you have to tip the angle of the jack at all or if you have the trans off the jack. Nice job.
If you have time put the pilot bearing in the freezer for a while. Will drop in. ALWAYS check the fit of the bearing on the input shaft. BTW I did not know about the clutch bolt. Don't see many Freightliners. Hope I remember if I do. Thanks
Guys check Francisco amaya has video of clutch replacement.. you guys make it harder to replace it.check Francisco video and Techniques how to do it.put the clutch to trans together before you install the Trans.... I did it by myself
We talked about that, but the way this transmission was set up there was no way to do it. There’s no inspection plate on the bottom that you can go through to bolt the clutch to the flywheel with the trans in place.
Nice video, like many of mine of late!!! 👀Did you resurface the flywheel or change the rear main seal while you had it that far a part. I once mention if you used bolts to align the clutch disc why not the bell housing? Reminds of days gone by.
@@GuyinWY Hi,nice job!Is that OEM Eaton product?I was looked same cluch with "Made in Mexico' stamped on cover.Somebody has any experience with it?Thank You!
I find it really interesting how normally US trucks are far better for doing maintenance that European trucks. But when it comes to changing clutch well we have in a lot easier. Just tilt the cab forward and you have transmission in front of you no need to crawl under it.
@@GuyinWY LOL. I can just picture some engineer sitting at a desk designing that "BOLT" marker on the bell housing. Hard to believe you could miss such obvious instructions!
That's not called changing a clutch in 10 mins. that's called changing a clutch in 2 days. Where I worked in a dealership you had 5 hrs. to change a clutch. If you had to change the input shaft on the trans. that was extra.
At around 1:51 mins they use the word "jésus Christ "" is it not a cuss word toward the lord and Christians. Imagine every one using "Mohammed " as a cuss word or Krishna for the Indians, But so far I never heard anyone using Mohammed as a cuss word or anything as a cuss word exceptthe Lord jesus.
Click bait.... sorta, I changed one before or about one to two a week in a truck shop down in thorne bay alaska and its a bit longer than that if its only say a five speed fuller..... I have lost finger nails and thumb nails and pinched my belly so bad that it looked like a hole was starting in my gut.... don't miss doing them especially the ones where everything is fried harder than the mother in laws eggs. I liked working on trucks but there are a few that I remember that were not fun... like a off highway Hayes with the extra heavy suspension and all other related stuff. Makes other rigs look like tonka toys..... so ten minutes got my attention after doing them by myself a dozenteen times/LOL
It was a ten minute video, because I don’t think anyone would want to watch a multi- hour video of us going “What is still holding this stupid thing...”😆😆

thats way harder..
watching this....I did that stuff way back in 80’s.........I don’t miss it one damn bit!
my dear husband was a pro at this, i do not know how he did it
Damn, I'd definitely need to be a fly on the frame and just watch . I love watching mechanics put their heads together and figure it out, you guys did good, even with the floor jack modification. Pretty cool to watch
God Bless these Mechanics!! This is some very tedious hard work!!!
As soon as you said all the bolts were o it but it wasn’t coming, I knew exactly what it was 😂 was fortunate enough on my first cascadia to have noticed it after I pulled the linkage. Great video sir
The hidden bolt is common for all hydraulic clutch transmission. And if there are other clutch problems, the fork bushings are known to fail.
Last several I done we pulled and installed them in the bell housing. That way you don't have to deal with lifting the clutch up by hand. Out clutch jack was broken.
We talked about that, but the way this transmission was setup we couldn't do it.
I hear you. The only way to do it. And yes you guys could have done it that way.
Load that clutch on the input shaft and stab it together. Even if it is a solo. Work through the inspection hole it's a piece of cake.
Yes sir I have seen that done and very fast that way.
Maybe y’all just didn’t show it but might consider fabbing or buying a rear main seal installer. We considered doing a rear main, but it isn’t currently leaking and this truck is scheduled to be replaced in about a year so we let it ride.
I agree with you... pretty much any engine should have the rear main seal replaced while the transmission and clutch are out! They made a huge mistake overlooking that seal.. 😢
Been missing your adventures..so there are shade trees in Wyoming!!

Nice to see you with some help for a change.

Great video after how many miles need the new clutch?
Lining up the transmission to the clutch and Putting the bolts back In saying: "one is better then none"
Got me laughing😂
this needs to be on a shirt
Rye r=
Great to see more of your videos!!
Thanks!
The bolt in the slave cylinder hole is a tricky one
Thanks for another great video...not a fun job but fairly straight forward. Keep’em coming buddy!
Great job on the video👍🏻

We actually used the same bolts to line up the clutch and the bell housing. Same threads. 👍
watching this made me remember my Dad we do not have the tools that we what but we can use the tools that we need
You killed it, nice to have that job done, I am guessing parts 2K labor in dealer shop 2,500$ or more
Parts were around $1500 I believe, and he was quoted $2,000-3,000 for labor by a few different local shops.

Another great video.
The man sure earns his wage. Great work. 👍
have you ever installed a clutch on a 2007 freightliner m2 Mercedes engine with a fso6406a transmission, nothing an internet
No extra parts found at the end , besides those replaced? 👍
Forgot to mention ,jacking rear of frame higher to make transmission level is best .
Good job. Thanks for the video.
Happy 4th from Greeley Guy and bunch.
How is your garden doing?
Not well. I’m sorry I haven’t replaced to your email, things have been crazy here. I’ll follow up with you in a bit!
Excellent job
ahh glad to see a video from ya. enjoyed it--i have done it twice in my life-ha!
Is that Milwaukee impact all the ads say it is? 1400ft/lbs of breaking force?
Why not do a input shaft install.
How much suppose to charge?
Just a awesome video. all the people that worked on this should get a metal or at least a 24 of beer, steaks, more beer!! well you get the picture.
bin missing y'all man
Very nice video, Thank you.
Another job well done! Didn't envy you on that one lol
Nice thanks for the knowledge bud use the same tool to line it up easy money
Side of the road. With a piece of pipe across the floorboard and a baby chainfall. Rather torch the rig than do it again
Any job worth doing, is worth doing with buddies.
What happened to the Ford 8N
It’s here, waiting on time/ money.
By definition, headaches are things you don't expect. Otherwise you would have avoided them in the first place.
Great job 👍
Yak solo clutches
How to replace master and slave cylinder video
from no cover over the shifter opening to not checking input shaft and pilot brg.bore,i don't even know where to begin.
Perhaps a 10 minute video doesn’t cover everything?
Need more new content

somebody needs to buy some Snapon Tools!!
That rechargeable light was pretty handy.
the hidden bolts😂🤣
Wait...you had the flywheel out and didnt get it surfaced?
how is the 8n tractor coming?
Slowly. I’m having problems finding a machine shop that I can worn with.
Where did you buy the transmission jack?
Do you still farm, have not seen any videos in months?
I’m not doing much at the moment, but am looking for ground and equipment right now.
You belt the bearing in the centre,no,get a drift to drive the outer bearing into the recess.
Hope all is well man! It’s been a little bit.
Hopefully you did not have to deal with mosquitos too.HAHA
The thing is most jobs don't go as planned but you can get them done
I would change that rear main seal while I was there, but that's just me.
How long did it really take?
Why did you remove the flywheel?
We intended to have it resurfaced, but the shop wasn’t able to do it before the truck had to be reassembled.
Amen to that brother
Did you turn the flywheel?
Hahahah the hidden bolt 😁
Great job and video. 🙂👍
I really don't like those hydraulic clutch setups on big trucks. It's an answer to a question no one asked.
Wouldn’t have been so bad, had a “clearly marked” bolt not been hiding down in there. 😆
@@GuyinWY LOL. I can just picture some engineer sitting at a desk designing that "BOLT" marker on the bell housing. Hard to believe you could miss such obvious instructions!
Most bell housing with that clutch set up have a arrow and says bolt
Shipping bolts! Must be a solo clutch.
Forgot to cut flywheel.

1:32 Jesus Christ WHAT!?!
You forgot to mention the number of days too.
Got to love it. even thing I heard in here I have a tee shirt for.
Sad you never resurfaced the flywheel! not cool! Also I would have changed the rear main seal.
My clutch went out today started grinding today .. I just paid off my 2015 Freightliner cascadia🤦🏽♂️ $600 for a tow $2,800 for the clutch 🤦🏽♂️
Really what happen my didn’t drive

If it really only took you 10 minutes. Don't be a stranger blake. Have a happy 4th!!!
Make the Helpers, 150 lbs is a lot to monkey around with.
@5:21 not right
Hiya Blake
I bet they don't know about the slave cylinder bolt. It's a size 17mm. 😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅
much easier to put the clutch into the transmission and install
Next time they should label the bolt with a flag or something
It's cast into the clutch cover "hidden bolt" with an arrow!
I’m a sucker, I actually thought you were going for a record and did it in 10 minutes
It ended up taking way longer than ten minutes, unfortunately.
I can change one in 8 minutes!
