- The Changli Nemeca, possibly the world’s cheapest new electric car, is now in my coworker Jason Torchinsky’s backyard. “How did it get all the way there from China?” you’re probably wondering. Well, it was a hell of a journey.
The incredible Changli electric car started out in Jiangsu, China. That’s almost literally on the other side of the earth from Jason’s house in Chapel Hill:

In China it's called "old man's fun" aka "老头乐", it's also a slang used to describe cheap (around 3 bucks) sex service targeting old men in public park.

Renduo Xiong Aren’t license plates granted to only gas powered cars for hundreds in China? They try to deter gasoline vehicles by charging very high fees for registration. Electric vehicles are free but I’m not sure about this particular type. They are perfect for the elderly. I heard a license isn’t necessary for them.

@kiwiflare his yard reminds me of how we live in the rural areas aka The Country. We accumulate all kinds of items around the yard. Example, we have 9 vehicles parked around the property. Cars, trucks, rv's, tractors, riding mowers, fishing boats, etc.

It was about $16000 with shipping, but all the customs and legal stuff added another $2000 to that. Still, pretty good value considering how good it actually is

its essentially a fancy golf cart. I don't think you can even register it to be ridden on public roads in most states. Not sure about NC maybe you are allowed to ride golf carts on the road there.

First off, I want to complement the quality education Guilford HS was doing in the '90s when Torch was there. Secondly, I told David I would have my eyes on him when he first joined Jalopnik. I no longer feel my eyes over his shoulder is necessary. He sprouted into a man almost as dangerous as Torch himself, and for that I applaud him.

I've had that issue with other big items from China. They say just paint it (cracked and bent metal) and send 5 bucks for the paint. Never ordering from China again 🤣
Although it's a new car but it's a LSV low speed vehicle. Not even road legal in China (but hicks in rural China drive them on the roads anyways.)

It's a golf cart, not really a car
A golf cart is limited to less than 15 mph. This is a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV), must reach 20 mph in less than a mile but not exceed 25 mph. It's legal except on roads with speed limits over 35 mph. You have to have a license to drive one. They've been in the national code since 1998.
