Cabin in the Woods Part 20: Standing Seam Ridge Cap Detail
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лип 2024
- In this episode of Cabin in the Woods, we finish off the chimney flashing detail and go right into our ridge cap. So many people have been asking about how we flash the ridge cap that dies into two valleys in the middle of the main roof. I finally finish that in part 20 and we are able to get off this upper roof.
Standing Seam Ridge cap details can be done many different ways. I am not saying our way is the only way, just how we have learned it. Please feel free to shoot me some links or information down below with other awesome vented ridge options. Thanks and stay tuned for more.

Am I ever going to build a building? No
Am I going to watch every video on this channel? Yes
yep!
Lol there's a lot of good information in these vids but they're nowhere near a tutorial
Best roof job ever. In 100 years time, someone will be in awe of that job, because it will be still leak free. Beautiful roof. Thanks.
Paint won't last near that long. That's one of the big problems with expensive "lifetime" roofs. You could spend 1/3 of the money, and something that could be replaced in 20-30 years, and it would look new again. But really it's nothing the current owner would worry about.
@@smhammer92 well the paint is there to prevent rust mostly, and if the owner keeps on top of repainting it (which I'm sure not a lot of contractors would be super eager to take, even dedicated exterior paint guys) it could indeed last 100 years.
Unless hail
The quality of these paints have come a long way in the last few years, I'm not so sure repainting a roof like this would work so well
You guys do absolutely beautiful work...nice to see pride in craftsmanship still alive and well!
“I don’t pay Greg to think but he does” 😂 when I was young I got the “you were hired from the neck down” version.
That applies working at Hooters as well.
@@SSingh-nr8qz Hooters is full of butterfaces?
Your attention to detail and water management is impeccable
Your attention to detail is second to none; I'd bet that none of our building ever leak. Love Greg's non sequitur comments - makes for hilarious banter on the job site.
You guys are the best; I hope Zack is doing well - I can't imagine why he'd ever leave this crew.
Yea - another video to watch, learn and enjoy. Thanks.
Guys your clients are getting real value for the their money they are lucky having you! Best wishes!
I'm always amazed when u do the trimming. Having to calculate the cuts and bends to make it look absolutely perfect it just blows mind.
believe me he learns more every cut and bend
Milwaukee rivet gun is the best. Bought mine 2 years ago when we had a insulated panel building with 20,000 rivets. I dropped it once 20 feet on to frozen ground and all that broke was a battery retention tab. Thanks for giving tips on running things straight.
Ive been roofing for 4 years now had my own company for two and I love your videos because you dont cut corners. I am trying to get into more metal roofing - been only asphalt and seeing yall do it doesnt make it look easy but ,males it look doable. Keep it up guys.
“Hey I don’t pay Greg to think...” I laughed for 30 seconds at that. Who else cracks up when Kyle is doing his best to preach and teach and Greg fires off the impact driver or slams a 20 penny ring shank like 3’ away? You see Kyle stop talking for a second, blink, and then talk again. These are the best moments. Work hard guys!
Your attention to detail is great. You give the customer more than his money's worth, that's for sure.
I'm a roofer/framer and that Valley detail looks great! 🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Thanks
Truly enjoy your channel. Just started to follow a month or 2 ago. I really like how simple you make things look. Math never lies. Keep them coming. Tony.
I can’t believe people think that huge building is moving! It’s the lift you’re standing on & the camera! Oh my goodness! You two work so well together. “Don’t worry son...”! Great job. We enjoy watching you two build.
It’s a joke dude
I’m still new at metal roofing, that ridge to valley detail was really nice
I love that detail where the ridge dies into the roof. It's what I watch your channel for, great detail, quality work!
Really enjoyed that whole roof series, great watch. Thank you. Regards Jim UK.
Best roof job done ever! So neatly!
Crazy attention to detail. Absoltely love your dedication to doing the best job you possibly can. . As crazy as it sounds, watching your videos has made me a better stockbroker.
Standing seam is a great system love your details , and videos.
You attention to detail makes a very nice finished product. Thanks for another great video. Love your building style.
your clients are the luckiest in the planet. Job perfectly done , 110% quality! Can't wait for the music garage series!!
Kyle, you are a true craftsman! I am enjoying your videos and your attention to detail.....keep it up!
You guys always do great work. The details make the job and you all killed it. Top notch install this is a real lifetime roof system with all of your details done correctly.
You can tell when someone takes pride in what they do it shows in a job well done. Another great Video. Thanks for sharing
Perfection. The owner has got to love the quality of work.
That is a slick roof!!! Looks great. Love the attention to detail on that flashing!
Great job guys... can’t wait for the next video 👍🏽👍🏽
I love watching quality construction, it’s a talent, an art! 👍
I’d like to see how that chimney gets finished.
Been watching for a while. I really enjoy the craftsmanship that you guys do. I’m originally from Chicago and I have family that live in Byron an it’s like a little piece of home every time I watch you guys.
I love seeing father and son work so well together LOL 26:30 thats art great job
Kyle, After seeing Matt risinger’s recent video on the poor workmanship and materials being used on a particular housing development, I appreciate the effort you and Greg put into ensuring your buildings not only look good but also perform well for your clients. Good reputations are hard to build and easy to lose. Well done guys. 👍🏼
Cool video's guyz. Plain and simple without all of the noise and clutter of trying to be "hip".
What a work of art. You are a master!
Master at work.. fun to watch you guys do things.. keep it up and be safe.. see you guys on the next one..!!
Love your work and the care you take.
Awesome job on the ridge detail! Been waiting for this video before I install my ridges on my barn build. Thanks again for such an informative, well done video and video series!!
Хорошая работа. Спасибо за ваш труд.
30+ year GC who was never a fan of metal because is so often hacked. We did metal treating it like your working on the hood of a corvette. So unbelievably refreshing to see someon putting metal on with care, no scratches, etc.. Our local lumberyard always teased us for ordering butyl tape with our roof's. NO ONE,.. in this area, and I mean NO ONE, uses butyl anywhere, ever. Trim is just smacked and screwed, no closures, no closing your profiles... Really quality work here man.. What you need to do on those ridge/roof intersections is keep some roll lead in your truck and tap-out a nice thin piece of lead flashing at the valley peak for your counterflashing. Super slick and dead tight.
Nice tip thanks
@@RRBuildings No problem. Lead flashing is hard to find here but a couple yards still stock it. Just a little 3"x3" piece at that valley peak and you can ditch the tube caulk. Super handy and you will find a million other places to use it. A 30"x30" sheet will last you dozens of jobs.
Excellent job on the roof.
Roof looks amazing
Amazing workmanship and attention to details, great job 👍🏻
Dude it looks fantastic! Learned a lot on this series about standing seem roofs. Keep up the awesome Work! You guys rock!
A well-timed video cut at 20:00. Just enough so that we can see you drop that roll through the roof Kyle ;) Great job as always!
Lol, I didn't catch that.
Nice! That sun and heat created a mirage that Kyle thought was a helper....
:D
Always Top Notch Workmanship!
Roof looks awesome!
My supplier recommended the exact same venting system for my roof as well for similar reasons. They also mentioned that the foam performed better with wind driven rain.
Finally someone with some skills and the beautiful festool drill as well. Batteries last forever.
This dudes a solid contractor for real I must say he's a beast
It is so nice to see when your videos come on so that I can see some down to earth guys doing not so down to earth stuff if you get my meaning, being that you are 30 feet in the air.
When you said hot, you said it all! A dark metal roof in the middle of Summer is no picnic! Beautiful finish, though.
Brilliant job .. Love your attention to detail 👍👍👍
I really like how the cap lines up with the above panel.
Man you are really a next level carpenter/builder. I would love to work for someone with you’re skill
What a hell of a nice job. Great looking job thanks for all the hard work 😎
Looks really good guys. Good job I like all the details you to make the trims ends is really nice finish look.
Doing my homework before building my home...your tutorial is greatly appreciated.
New subscriber.
Beautiful job
Awesome work always clean clean clean!!!
LOVE THE IDEA YOUVE SHARED.....GOOD WORK. NOW IMMA APPLY THAT. THANKS A BUNCH..
Excelente....muy preciso y al detalle. Sin dudas lo mejor que he visto en roof metal.
Those cordless river guns are amazing
I like the attention to detail
Love the metric comments mate. Best wishes from Australia. Stay safe
Roof turned out amazing....i was hoping for a flyover but I guess once the chimney is done we will get the great view. Great job y'all.
You will
Wow that looks so good. Great work for sure.
Another great video....fantastic roof!
That is one very awesome roof 👍👍👍
GREAT job as always!
nice detail. good to see.
Good job Kyle! There's many ways to skin a cat and you chose the manufacturer recommended one. On the west coast we put grommit screws theough the ribs on our snap lock panels. I want to start using rivvots now on some details
Awesome video I will be watch more!
Just when I thought the building wasn't moving anymore...there it goes, swaying in the wind...
Probably better get the rest of the steel on the walls.
@@ShainAndrews Yep, and wait for the lumber to cure.
😂😂😂 I laughed way to hard at that
@@jackjetpilot What? He isn't using cured lumber? This is supposed to be occupied, not some dump pole barn.
yep its moving again!
Love your enthusiasm for building. It comes through in the apparent quality of your work. If I could afford it I would have you build me a house.
Looks great!
Starting the cap in the middle to prevent oil canning is a good idea. I find using a 2 by4 to evenly apply pressure to the whole piece works 👍
Using a brake to modify the bend to the correct pitch works with oil canning as well.
So clean so good
Hope you guys survived the storm! 2020 is one hell of a year!
Wow amazing job guys that roof is Sweet...🤪😎👍
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL JOB GUYS, QUALITY WORK ‼️👍👍. Vinny 🇺🇸. FOREVER ROOF
Great detail work
You guys are awesome! Really enjoyed your video.....not the biggest fan of rivets but each to their own! Nice looking roof!
You guys do really really nice work!!
24:05 It always seems like water finds a way. That's pretty much what people always commented on during a window installation video a while back. We use the black rubber patch that comes with the Rubber All roofing system, and cover that top valley point with that, and then put the ridge cap over. Covers that hole point you were talking about, and doesn't rely on caulk.
I like the way you tied that ridge in to the pitch of the other roof. I haven't ever seen that done before.
Amazing job
Great job!! Great attention to detail!! I am hoping to do my own Gambrel Roof barn and this has been a huge help in my learning curve!!
Coming along nice!
hello, I love what you do and how you work together. I am learning a lot from you guys and I appreciate your work. I am a roofer from Germany and thanks for the centimeters haha
Great job as always 💯💯💯👍
I like yours show you show a lot of professional work
Hell yeah you my hero bbg💪 I Been learning from you and do it at work , so much progress , the guys don’t wanna show me idk why but I’m learning and helping , they asking me where I’m learning from haha thanks
Truthfully I’m looking at what a perfect day you got , looks like the sun is behind the clouds 🏁🏁🏁
Another good video, been a great series, good looking job. thanks.
Looks so good!
I'm putting a ridge cap on now with a standing seam system and it's the slotted z-closures that have foam in them. They recommend putting caulk at the end of each where it meats the seam as well as riveting to the z bar. I think the system you are using looks easier and would provide more ventilation.
Badass detail💪👍
28:48 mark YOUR WORK IS SUPERB
