I understand the names playing this pre-tournament money exho but was there no chance of including even one of the doubles stars from either the ATP or WTA tour? Naomi and Coco can put bums on seats and it's great to include them for that reason but imagine pairing either one of them up with Rajeev Ram, a guy who can play doubles and is so gutsy and dynamic at the net. Kyrgios wasn't match ready and isn't really a crowd puller in America. He didn't really belong here. Also, outside of his doubles Grand Slam title, his mixed doubles resume is bare. Imagine if Hsieh Su-Wei had been invited to pair with Taylor Fritz or Ben Shelton. She makes women's and mixed doubles interesting. They had Bethanie Mattek-Sands playing a singles and mixed match the night before but they couldn't involve her in this money tournament?
I know. Different strokes for different folks and maybe this was an unpopular opinion but I think it's a missed opportunity to increase the profile of the doubles players/tournament, even if it piggy backed off the singles players.
