How to Hide Recession in Your Hair Line

  • For some of us recession areas in our hairline are all to real! Mine has been like this for as long as I can remember, and although I'm not embarrassed of it, I don't like for it to be the first thing someone sees when they look at my hair.
    I hope these Tips and Tricks are helpful for you!!
    Products Mentioned:
    -En Root Hair Mascara in Brunette*: goo.gl/f4P8Kp
    -Eyeshadow used: Original Meet Matte Nude by The Balm (discontinued) - Any color that matches your hair will work!
    --Scalp/Hair filling powder: goo.gl/USYviK
    -Toppik Hair Building Fibers (medium Brown): goo.gl/dFN8dM
    I have to say the Toppik powders are literal magic! I've used them on my hair line and on my husband's hair which like most men's hair is beginning to thin in certain areas. They're expensive, but you can buy the tiny ones for just $7 to see if you like them. Everyone I've talked to that has used them loves them :).

    everyone is talking about how this made them more self conscious about their hairline but this just made me feel more confident about mine. I have the same exact hairline as the girl in the video and this video just showed me that I'm not the only one with this hairline, that it is normal.

      I also have this hairline naturally I think many people have it. It can be annoying sometimes and kind of edgy at other times. It's okay and its noting to be ashamed of. Power to the V hairline haha

    You know, there's a guy in one of my classes that told me the other day, to get smart with me, "When I look at you, all I see is forehead." In front of the guy I like and everything. I usually have a side bang yet he still managed to say that in front other people. Like seriously, keep it to yourself. He really, really got on my nerves that day -_-

      Same thing happened to me! Except for the guy giving his opinion was the guy I thought was super hot he said "she's okay but she has a big forehead" and everyone started laughing it was horrible. Looks aren't everything especially since I learned that he had a such an ugly personality which just made him so ugly to me! Haha let your personality shine through girly guys opinions don't define us! (:

    • @Kayla_Strong
      @Kayla_Strong 9 років тому +7

      +xesmee63x OMG really? Aw I'm sorry, that's really unfortunate. I think that was extremely rude of him to say, and it wasn't right for other people to laugh either. It wasn't their business in the first place, actually, but I know what you mean, looks aren't everything! But it sure makes it harder to dislike someone when they're really hot LOL... That's how I feel about the guy I like who witnessed all of this a couple weeks ago, but that's another story haha. I'm just glad he didn't laugh or anything because I would've been THROUGH that day. But anyways... Aw thank you, that's so nice of you, back at you! :D

When he asked you out I'm sure he thought you wouldn't remember what he did and how he acted towards you, but it was probably because he liked you in the first place. Maybe he thought it wasn't a big deal and forgot about it himself over time. Guys :/ But anyways, you're right, thanks for the positive feedback! It helped :)

    Hi Kayley, I just wanted to say thanks for pointing it out that people don't have to be ashamed or NEED to cover them up. As an individual with rosacea, occasional spots, and scarring, I'm tired of makeup and beauty gurus apologizing for their skin or hair and diminishing others' skin types indirectly by making these disparaging remarks. I refuse to be ashamed of my skin, hair line, etc., and if I want to cover them up some times, I will but I know and feel comfortable that I don't have to. So thanks for spreading that body positive message! I love your videos!

    I have a disease and that combined with my meds have made my hair fall out badly. I've always had fine hair but lots of it, and now it's fine AND thin, especially around my temples but also quite thin above my ears.
    Thank you SO much for this, I'm def going to give them a go :-) My hair/skin/body has done a complete 360 compared to how it was before and it really gets me down sometimes, being constantly sick is bad enough, but to then feel like I always LOOK like crap too, just makes me feel even shittier about things.
    So tomorrow morning when I do my hair, I'm going to give a couple of these a go, a huge thank you!! 😀

    Thank you for not making us feel bad for being born this way! My hairline is so far back that, when I was little, my brother pulled my hair back and called me Ben Franklin. I am who I am. I watched another video about high foreheads and how to style hair, and I felt the woman enforced the belief that we are somehow disfigured. So, thank you so much for understanding and being so beautiful inside and out!

    Thin hair problems! I never had recession on my hair line as a kid until I decided to go all throughout high school wearing ponytails. I noticed that my sides were receding and I had a bald spot on the front of my head from all the pulling. I stopped wearing ponies so tight but, my hair has yet to grow back in those areas. I am always self conscious when wear my hair straight back now so this is definitely going to help! I have a few hairs on my sides that somewhat cover up the receding hairline but they literally never grow. This is definitely going to help! Thanks!!

    • @Jemima1377
      @Jemima1377 10 років тому +2

      There are sticks that are made specificall for those little baby hairs that have a kind of wax in them that "glues" them to the rest of your hair.
      Personally mine are most noticable when my hair is a bit charged and stroking a dryer sheet over them helps that phenomenon.
      And a big YES to the toothbrush with hairspray method - works well! (You can also use a comb/brush for backcombing - they are a bit bigger than toothbrushes and more gentle)

    I have recession areas in the same points on my head but I can only hide one of them with my fringe, as I have a sidecut on the left side of my head. I just learned to deal with the obvious one, but I like that tip of using eyeshadow to fill it in a little bit. This was really useful and I especially like the fact that you explained that this isn't necessary or something to feel insecure about. Nicely handeled.

    I have the same hairline as you and sometimes I don't notice it and other times it's extremely noticeable and I couldn't really figure it out but watching your video helped me identify what I'm doing wrong (pulling my hair too tight) and now I can control it! I'm just sat at home right now with my hair in a quick messy bun and I just loosened it and pulled out some hair and already my face looks a little more O-like, a little less M-like! :D

    This is useful as it can mess w/the look of certain hairstyles. I don't care about mine only when it gets in the way of a look i'm trying to achieve. I appreciate that Kayley took the time to touch on this as it has been overlooked by many other hair gurus. Sometimes controversial subjects come up, such as this, and it can take great courage to step out of the box and speak up.

      Hey, maybe you could try to have bangs, they fall into your forehead and cover it :) if you don't feel comfortable with the whole area covered you can also try side bangs or just make a sidepart and pin your hair as if you had bangs! Other than that I also think that a big forehead isn't a problem but maybe bangs can help you feel more confident

    • @mermaidboobies
      @mermaidboobies 10 років тому +1

      First of all, Amy Leroux is right! There's nothing wrong with having a big forehead. BUT, if it does bother you, you could try leaving some hair out when you pull it back. Do you have bangs/fringe? Leave those out or get some hair around your face cut shorter next time you go for a haircut so you have something to leave out. I've had bangs for a long time and whenever I put them up I do feel a bit self conscious about my forehead because I'm not used to seeing all of it, so I find that my bangs do a good job of disguising it.

    • @asparagussauce
      @asparagussauce 7 років тому +2

      Maybe try a really really subtle contour around the hairline? The point would be to make it look like your hair was casting a faint shadow near where it meets the scalp, which does happen a teeny tiny bit if you pull your hair back but it's not tight (although most of the darkness is on the roots themselves). It would separate your skin from your hair at least. You'd have to be reeeaaaaally really light-handed with it though.

    Wouldn't you call it recession if your hair was actually falling out? But this is just the shape of your hairline - like you said, you've had it forever so there's no recession going on.

      +Nari Shemintarc Possbly, but if you have this hairline shape, you can quickly go from thin temples to balding from pregnancy, medications, illness, or just aging. Kayley's hairline doesn't look like balding, but she has a great canvas to show how to mask those thin spots, especially if you have wider or more severe thinning.

    I love the video Kaley! Because i have the same "problem" with my hair. Mine are very obvious and i have been feeling very self conscious about them from time to time. So thank you for showing that it is normal, but also that there is something i can do about it if i want to hide it. The way i see it, is that it is no different then when we put on makeup to conceal something, or just make our face a little more beautiful. (sorry about the grammar , but i am danish)

      Oh really? Ok, let me put it to you this way - try having healthy hair all your life and then suddenly it starts falling out, non-stop for months and you end up with a huge thin area that goes all the way from the front of your hairline to your crown... it's an area that may as well be bald for all the hair that remains. Try looking in the mirror every day with that and be wondering what people are thinking of you? Try dealing with "Are you sick?" questions. Try looking at that every day and be constantly worrying that you ARE going bald - not that it makes a difference because how it looks now is terrible. Yeah sure, I'm not dying, things could be worse, but It's. My. Hair. You obviously have no idea of the heartache that this sort of hair loss can bring and you need to STFU rather than bring your "holier than thou" attitude to a channel that deals with hair styling.

    I've been doing this with brow powder close to my part line for awhile now. I have pretty thin hair. When I'm on second or third day hair the oil just separates my strands making me look like I'm going bald. Not fun. I feel much more confident with a little brow powder mixed in. Thanks for the other tips! They were super helpful.
