    @Deanswoodworking I have been “studying” quite a few gonk videos over the past few weeks and built a private library for my own reference (I have significant short term memory issues and rely on my UA-cam library for reference).     It helps to eliminate the "chatter" on a long limb like that if you bring the tailstock up for support. Good job Dean....!

    Dean, your techniques are a bit different than mine but always good to see how others do it. I like the way you marked the fur cut with a felt tip pin and the heart shaped shape description is spot on. Stay safe my friend.

    New guy here. I've been wondering what to do with the 200ft of cedar hurricane Ida left me. Now I know what to do with the smaller pieces. The tree was one my dad had planted a long time ago. I don't mind that it got blown down, I just wish it would have fallen ON the barn not AWAY from it lol.

    I have made a bunch of free standing gnomes, never thought of doing them as hanging ones so thanks for the idea. In stead of cutting down the beard to go around the beard I use a leather punch from the back to make the hole for the nose, I found that helps me hold while all the glue cools etc

    Lots of questions about the "fake fur". Amazon, JoAnn, Michaels and Hobby Lobby are your best bet for locating the fur if in the USA. Amazon has a good selection of the darker colors. When using hot glue and you want to get rid of those annoying glue strings you can hit them with a quick blast of hot air from a blow dryer. The gnomes are adorable. Gnomes are very big these days in the crafting world. I'm a paper crafter and have made many note cards with gnomes.

    If you don't mind small suggestions, drill the hole while it's on the lathe with more wood. Then turn the wood down to the size you want. This takes care of tear-out.

    The gnomes are very cute. I just don't understand why you're sticking your the hats on with glue. I will make them as small containers, then you can put coins or objects in them. The hat serves as a lid. Thanks for the great idea and the great video! Greetings from Germany

    why do you drill in the bottom
