Seriously. I remember bartering with my friend for Evil Empire on CD when we were in middle school. Got tickets to see them in WA coming in 2021. So powerful, unique and talented.

Yes they made money and found great success. But they never compromised their message and have proven time and time again that they use that platform to actually fight for what they believe in by putting there money where their mouth is. Four dudes finding success in a rock band is not even close to the same as giant corporations and billionaires exploiting labor, war profiteering, lobbying, etc

Also, notice how well mixed their stuff is, their first album is still regarded as one of the best mixed albums ever.

@michael brown I prefer people dont needlessly die, as any rational person should. The gov should have helped people stay home and crush COVID like other countries did. Instead they cut a 1200 check, and gave trillions to the top 1%; spending more for a worse outcome - really speaks to how corrupt our gov is.
@michael brown Lots of conclusions that can be summed up by ignorance. 1) Herd Immunity is not proven to be a thing with COVID. 2) See Switzerland 3) "Young people are fine" - yes I understand that you dont work in a hospital and know what you're talking about thanks for pointing that out 4) "Old people and people with issues" is quite a few more people than you would expect 5) Sure waving accountability for nursing homes is horrible, as is mismanaging a country and causing alot of needless deaths - yet here we are. 6) Mortality rates when we are in quarantine and taking (poor) preventative measures doesnt make your argument sound. 7) Mortality rates show how horrible the US has managed COVID even with having a head start compared to many Asian countries - pathetic really especially when you consider how much money we handed the top 1%, we literally spent more money and got a worse outcome - which I guess is a common theme in our country.

That very statement shows that you dont know what you are talking about and everyone should 100% ignore your opinion for the ignorance that it is. Masks work by blocking water droplets, not filtration. "Herd immunity" - no dumbass first you have to prove that the antibodies stay in your system and that they provide protection for the various strains of COVID-19, until you do you're talking out of your ass.

In regards to the record scratch sounds, Tom Morello uses a Digitech Whammy pedal to get that sound.
No, not for that sound ... not in this song. That sound is straight friction on the strings in combo with the pickup selector acting as a kill switch.
The Whammy pedal is used in Killing In The Name.
Tom uses a bunch of pedals for his unique sound

David Harrington yes, I play guitar, and I play this solo all the time. No pitch shifting.
He uses a kill switch on one of his pickups. He invented the technique, it's taught in music schools today.
He's one of the guitar gods. A man a band a vocalist ahead of their time. Beautiful

Yessir, one man, a guitar, some effects pedals and the on/off switch on his pickups for the crossfader. Love seeing people get jacked up over RATM -- one of the greatest bands of my generation.
Yes he was doing all of that on the guitar. I don't remember exactly how it was stated but in the liner notes of their debut album it's says that no turn tables or samples were used in the making of this record. Tom Morello's guitar work on those first couple RATM albums was absolutely amazing..... In my opinion

Literally he’s scratching by having one of the pick ups just off one of them turned all the way up and the toggle works as a kill switch so that’s how that works

Yes. He gets the sound buy muting the strings at the bridge with his left hand then rubs the string with his right hand without pushing against the fretboard.
Tom Morello is so underrated!! Actually the WHOLE band is. Unless you know who the band is and appreciate what they are doing and what they have strived to stand for it is not something most would know unless your in the metal community.

Rage are honestly one of the best bands of all time imo. Def the most unique. Nobody has fused metal, funk and hip hop in the same way ever. And their message remains undiluted to this day. This song and album was released 24 years ago, and yes the scratching was the guitar! Down Rodeo was a great song off this album as well! It’s crazy how folks are returning to this band this much later after their career is well over!! I still love the song Freedom from their first album which was released 28 years ago

The guitarist, Tom Morello, makes sound. He uses overdrive and plays with a steel slide the part of the strings after the fretboard ends, that's why it's so high pitch
Tom Morello who is the guitar player actually went to Harvard, or at least I'm pretty sure he did. It's been a while since I've learned this. But as a guitar player myself he is amazing and everything he does is kind of outside of the box. He replaces the spot of the DJ but with the perspective of playing a guitar so uses crazy effects that you'll never hear anybody else used
Yes The Top strings of guitar of course have ridges the way it's made so maid so your fingernail or pick or even finger can make a scratchy sound. You just have to control The pitch and make it work. He is the master of making weird things work
