      My first Rage experience was when Freedom video hit MTV. Then later on someone said they thought'd like them because they had that line "F* you, I wont do what you tell me (sp?)". I got their debut and was amazed at two things, first, the liner notes had in big print that all sounds were created with vocals, guitars, and drums (sp?) aka no samples, drum machines, turntables ect...., and second that every song on it was great. Probably the best band to mix metal and rap at the same time that I have ever heard.

    I remember Rage regularly had food and clothing drives at their concerts, they were really activists for helping those in need, they also appeared on many charitable records at the time. The guitarist Tom Morello doesn't get enough credit for his charitable and political activism, to this day.

      I love Rage but hate that their music is more relevant now than when they made it nearly three decades ago. Leonard Paltier is still in prison, native lands are still being exploited, racial injustice is still real, the wealth gap is only growing. The doctrine of American Incrementalism we've put up with as a nation needs to end now. The Federal Minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. In 2020 you can work 40 hours a week and bring home $290, minus taxes, around $240! Granted its higher in some states, but in a lot of states, if you work a tipped position (bartender, waiter, etc) the wage drops to less than $5 in some states. Shits criminal.

      I liked Rage when I was a kid but after growing up I realize what a bunch of bullshit most of what Zac rapped about was.

    • @bassmunk
      @bassmunk 4 роки тому +10

      @@mrletternumber The problem is that those who don't get a good education through no fault of their own (someone dies and a kid has to take care of the family and doesn't have time for school anymore for example) are expected to live off of that wage. These are jobs that are plentiful and need to be filled, many with full time hours, but since they're unskilled jobs people assume that nobody should get paid more than the poverty line. So people are stuck, working huge hrs to make enough money to get by, a family to take care of, which then leaves them no time to do home schooling. There are ALOT of intelligent poor people in the world without an education.

    • @misscleo378
      @misscleo378 4 роки тому

      @BassMunk Minimum-wage jobs are meant to be a stepping stone not a career. But even if you choose to make it a career, there is always opportunities in management. Skills are more valuable in our society, than an education. The person who only limits their thinking/opportunities to minimum wage is the the problem.

    • @bassmunk
      @bassmunk 4 роки тому +6

      @@misscleo378 People who limit themselves are a problem, yes. But assuming that a job isn't meant to be worked full time or not supposed to support you cuz employers are cheap and don't wanna pay more than minimum wage is a mistake. Many jobs are simple stepping stones, but you're assuming all are. And that's simply untrue. Greed goes both ways, and you better believe many business owners would pay even less if they could. They really don't care...

    I’ve seen a couple suspect interpretations of this song in the comments haha.
    “Bulls on parade” is referencing the military industrial complex and how it drives a “Bull” stock market. A “Bull” market is when it is doing well and a “Bear” market is when the market is down. The more wars we fight and money we spend paying companies to make bombs, the better the stock market does. It’s the old “Butter vs. Bullets” argument on government spending. “Rally around the family with a pocket full of shells” is showing the dichotomy of the Republican Party being the party of family and god, but also being the party of guns and war. ✌️❤️✊

      The 2nd Amendment is about the citizens being able to protect themselves from tyranny and oppression. If that’s seen as a bad thing, then I suppose one should study history a bit more. Also, being able to protect one’s own family from harm is seen as being evil nowadays for some reason. Makes no sense to me.

    Born of a Broken Man is my favorite song from RATM.
    "His thoughts like a hundred moths
    Trapped in a lampshade
    Somewhere within
    Their wings banging and burning
    On through endless nights
    Forever awake he lies shaking and starving
    Praying for someone to turn off the light"

    Seeing these guys live in the 90's was something I will always remember. When they played this song, you coed feel the crowd rise. It felt like we were the family, rallying around each other.
    It was powerful to watch your reactions to the song. You two would have loved the atmosphere I experienced. I was head banging right alongside you guys. 🎸 Keep it up!
