Wow! It looks absolutely amazing polished!!! You have definitely raised my appreciation of this stone. It’s not in my area and up until recently I just considered it a black rock... I had no idea the beauty and variety!
Oh WOW. The rainbow obsidian is stunning! Gee..that’s a hard question to answer…do I want to see your work the other side of that piece and polish it all? Heck yes!!!! Yup I could stare at that obsidian for hours. Amazing! Thanks for the video Mild Kyle! You Rock!!!
good stuff ! I'm cutting a bunch different stuff to send out to people, ive been doing a lot obsidian varieties, I love how soft it is compared to a quartz, wish they were all that quick, I really think obsidian is way overlooked, and every time its crafted its awesome. my favorite shade of lava! thanks for a fun vid, happy hounding !
This helped me tremendously. Thanks for taking the time to make this.sorry about the a/c.!..now I just have to wait a few more days until I get some days off to practice it. Thank God I have boxes full of rainbow, green, and blue material to work with. Thanks Jojo!..and yes for the love of God polish that whole thing!..u found a winner indeed!
the layered are easier because of the consistency of it, but those with the random swirls from glass butte are pretty awesome with the more severe mixing ,...is what I see, harder to judge I'm sure ,but more random is cool sometimes ! enjoying this video a lot, I do the same chase of play with these and its pretty exciting every cut.
That's why I'm grateful that rainbow is pretty consistent! The random swirl varieties are nice too...they just require some extra effort to study before cutting haha
After watching this video, I am even more curious about the pieces I have. I need to look up how to ID the different types of obsidian ❤ Great job on those pieces ❤
Wow that is a fabulous piece of rainbow obsidian. I plan on cutting a lot of rainbow from Davis Creek soon. This video definitely helps thanks for making it. You should make another video polishing those I’d love to see it. 🤘😜
Interesting I’ve been learning on how to cut some labradorite to find the best flash to come out in it , I don’t have a saw like yours but learning how to bring out that flash on a tile saw, thank you 😊 beautiful rainbow obsidian love those purple and greens 💙😊thank you
I think I know how to cut labradorite - very similar to other feldspars where is mostly a directional stone and definitely has to be cut just right for the best possible flash in the finish product.
Great video. Would you recommend the same angle for cutting slabs for pressure flaking blades and arrow heads? I have been cutting pieces from glass buttes but angle has been closure to 5-10 degrees. I plan to watch more video of yours as I would love to find a way to better polish obsidian. Thanks!
I think around that should be a good angle. Worst case, you can always do a couple small cuts and adjust as needed. Hard to make it exact haha I hope you find my videos somewhat helpful :)
Keep an eye out online between Ebay or even facebook market places. You should be able to find good rainbow obsidian anywhere between $5 to $10 per lb. unless prices everywhere go up, a good seller should only be charging that much.
I have watched this a few times and I never tire of the POP of color on that piece of Rainbow....You're calling it joker because of the primary two colors and I understand this, a personal view of course...But it's hard enough for me to remember all the names and Kyle you're not making it any easier! 🤣🤣
Hi Kyle, I have have watched your videos and others on this rainbow obsidian for a year. Orienting, cutting and polishing.. I have a question. The rainbow obsidian I have worked with shows color only when the light shines on it just right. More so than Opal...am I cutting it wrong? or is it rainbow obsidian just like that...the colors only show at a certain angle...?
Thank you for asking but at this time, I do not. Just too time consuming to work on obsidian by itself. Adding carving into the mix would take up too much time :(
Super piece of obsidian!!! Yes polish the other side. Be happy, safe and stay healthy 😷⚒
Very interesting 👌 and some good facts to share too. Great 👍 job
Thank you :D
@@WorldofRockhounds your so right about obsidian, it can be so tricky to work with!
That is the most beautiful obsidian I have ever seen.
Even more beautiful than fire obsidian?? :)
Holy cow! That material looks so incredibly beautiful!!!
I still need to polish that piece!
Yes, please finish that stone, front and back. That green is so bright. Thanks for sharing your technique. Great video.
You're welcome and thank you for watching!!!
Yes finish the backside. Beautiful piece.
Wow! It looks absolutely amazing polished!!! You have definitely raised my appreciation of this stone. It’s not in my area and up until recently I just considered it a black rock... I had no idea the beauty and variety!
I'm glad I could get your awareness on it's beauty!
Wow, that’s gorgeous Kyle. The blue and green are so pretty.
Fabulous result! And great tips. Now I just need some rainbow obsidian. And a saw... and a grinder...
Thank you!
Oh WOW. The rainbow obsidian is stunning! Gee..that’s a hard question to answer…do I want to see your work the other side of that piece and polish it all? Heck yes!!!!
Yup I could stare at that obsidian for hours. Amazing! Thanks for the video Mild Kyle! You Rock!!!
Thank you and thank you for watching!!! :)
Wow that piece is stunning! You've got a great start on it I think that rock deserves as much polishing as it can get.
Oh my gosh! That is beautiful! I’m so impressed with that gorgeous rock! Please do polish it!
Yes, I would like to see the final polish and yes, I'd like to see the end cut
This video was very educational for me
Thank you very much!

Wow, that’s a fascinating piece! My favorite so far of any obsidian I have seen and that I have!

I do also love how soft it is to grind down...it's just the polishing that requires extra time compared to other minerals :)

I'm glad it helps and no worries at all. I always want to make sure that I don't have too much sound intervention with my videos.
Wow that green is amazing!
:)
Yes do the back side and polished that pices Denver’deserves the love great piece and color play
Definitely want to see that polished.
I need to get some rainbow obsidian.
Also a polishing video would be awesome.
I may just do that once I get things caught up! :)
Thanks man I just got some and some other stones today very fascinating and it draws me in
It's such beautiful material
Ooooo so pretty!! Thanks for sharing

Gorgeous! Oh yeah, work that back side buddy!
I'll add that to my list!
Beauty! Thanks for the tips on cutting Obsidian. I have a few pounds to cut. But I only have a overhead tile saw.
You're welcome! For the saw, is it like the drop saw or the stationary over head tile saw?
It's a stationary saw with a sliding cutting surface.
Excellent video as always Kyle... You and Scott have taught me a few more tricks about Obsidian...👌😎
Thank you Michael and I'm happy to hear that! Thank you for your support in the channel :)
After watching this video, I am even more curious about the pieces I have. I need to look up how to ID the different types of obsidian ❤ Great job on those pieces ❤
Thanks for sharing, that stone is beautiful

I'm working on it :)
And thank you for all the great videos. You take time to do it right and it shows!
awesome piece! yes, please polish the backside!
Still on my list of things to do :)
I would love to see that stone finished
It's on the to do list :)
Wow!! Gorgeous!!
Thank you! 😊
Oh my gosh! That's the most beautiful piece of obsidian I've EVER seen! Great job!
Thank you! :)
Nice job Kyle, now I have to go find my socks.

ALWAYS GREAT STUFF ME FRIEND!👏😎

Hi. Thanks for the great video. I am trying to cut some flint but the blades go blunt straight away. Can I ask what type of blade you have? Thanks
cut straight along the layers, then bring out the coloured layers as you shape the slab.
At some point I will try this with one of the pieces :)
@@WorldofRockhounds I gotta box full myself. I have a shorts with a small piece, check it out. Good luck !
That material is awesome, how do I get my hands on some of that?

What saw are you using ?
How thick do you cut your slabs for cabbing.
Min 11:50🥰🤩😍💝💖💗🔝♾💜💙💚
Do you make customer carvings?
Thank you for asking but at this time, I do not. Just too time consuming to work on obsidian by itself. Adding carving into the mix would take up too much time :(
What kind of oil do you use??
I use a hydraulic mineral oil from Napa
Is that transparent or not...if transpart what colour....???
It's not transparent. It's a black color, just each layer has a different make up where it gives off a different color.
Thank you
Joker! ❤❤❤
11:48 Has anyone seen my socks? 😂
Nice rainbow by the way get that saw fixed before you loose a thumb
Vibrating too much causing it to fracture
It can also do that when it gets too hot!
3:15 Ah wonder what kind of accident you could have with that machine.... 😮😮😮😮
3:30 The machine looks like it's from the 1970s
2:14 Stop jabbering and start doin' something...
Fun fact: That was a rude comment.
Oh my, that is insanely pretty ˗ˋˏ ♡ ˎˊ˗
