This is (well the ST version series anyway) one of the games I played for many many hours multiplayer with my friends back in the day. Listen to Mark, very difficult after the first couple of races, but oh so satisfying after you finish a race. The game is easier with another human playing at the same time since only one of the two need to pass a level for both to continue, but not that easier. One of my favourite racing games of the time.
I'm so happy you've reviewed this game! I used to hammer this game! I recently started playing it again an emulator, the second track (the night stage) music when it shows the map is the best music ever! I just sit there listening.
This was one of the very first games I ever played. I can confirm this game is really hard too I think I have only made it past the first stage like once or twice. Such a freaking memorable opening theme tho XD.
I borrowed this game from my friends brother when I was a kid and it was so god damn hard I never made it past the second track. I didn't need any crazy distractions like "music" anyway.
Funny enough this was the second game on the Amiga (LTC2). The first one involved Circuit based driving with 19 other cars around different locations around the globe. But I still actually enjoy the second one (ie this one the review is based on) more. It's just as you say a lot more challenging (don't believe there was a turbo cheat for it). The time limits given espically on the last stage(Storm) are very hard and the game does do a few cheap trick through some levels, but thats the fun of it.
I was emulating this game on the Atari ST emulator for Sega Dreamcast the other day! I love emulating old PC's on the Dreamcast especially with the offical mouse and keyboard and controller. God I love my versatile Dreamcast!
I had this game on the pc I think it was one of the first pc games I ever owned and I loved it, I have to mention that I'm sure this game was identitcal to Jaguar XJ220 on the Amiga.
MARKS! SET! GO! I loved this game on the Amiga (Lotus Turbo Challenge 2). The Genesis version, while not as good, is still a very good version. I love the menu music - the Genesis version is decent, but the Amiga version is awesome.
1st time I ever played this game was last year (2010). I always had it and never played it b/c it never worked. I sprayed some "Green Works" Cleaner spray on a q-tip and it work really good. I didnt want to use alcohol on it, but a natural cleaner did the trick. Also, I got a chance to see one if these Lotus's up close in a tiny town on the way to a bigger one. It sat there for years w/o paint, I always thought it caught on fire. Lol I was wanting to but it but one day it was gone :-/
Lotus Turbo Challenge II was probably my favorite driving game of all time. Spent a lot of time with it on the Amiga with friends. Two player splitscreen was fantastic.
Hey Mark! You could drive underwater at 3:51. But when you`re cheating you are too fast so you get over it. I tested it. ;-) Happy easter in advance to all.
Loved and hated this game so much as a kid. The best feature was the "YEHEHAW!!" cheering on the C button ;3 Oh and... type "STANDISH" for the Autobahn level.
I like how they put the gear indicator, remaining time, speedometer, and boost meter (or whatever that red bar is) at the very top, with fully half a screen of empty space between them and the action. Because, hey, it's not like this is a tough racing game that demands the player's uninterrupted attention or anything, right?
@DavesComment No way, man. The correct train of thought is as follows: "Desert? I've been through the desert on a horse with no name... by the band America. American... as apple pie."
@Trusteft I agree! I had Lotus 3 for my PC back in the days and I played it a lot. And I mean a LOT xD with 2 players it rocked! I have so many good memories of this game... it's really good, although Mark doesn't agree ^^
Although I love the Mega Drive, Lotus and Lotus 2 on my Amiga was my life back in the day. The first real family gaming experience I ever had, playing Lotus with my father Happy days
@jcnbw01 That is Lotus III: The Ultimate Challenge on PC. IMO the best game ever made, especially in split-screen mode. And there Lotus even managed to install radio into the cars. ;-)
technically this is Lotus 2 from the Amiga / Atari ST. It's the least playable of the series, unless you are fond of the Outrun approach! I prefer the circuit racing in Lotus 1, on the ST ;)
What's the best racing game on the genesis? I was a genesis fan in the 16-bit era, and I still am. does anyone know of a racing game on the genesis that's worthy enough to compare to super mario kart and f-zero?
Games like this bring memories from late nights in my childhood.

"SLUGPACE" Finally finished a race, thanks Mark 😊

The graphics and animation actually look really good for 16 bit.
The underwater Lotus that fires projectiles is ideal for the desert level :-P
Lotus Turbo Esprit Challange 2 on the Amiga is awesome!!!
I never realized how many racing games were on Genesis. I love racing games!
This was one of the very first games I ever played. I can confirm this game is really hard too I think I have only made it past the first stage like once or twice. Such a freaking memorable opening theme tho XD.
I love all of these videos. CGR is perhaps becoming my favourite channel on UA-cam.
I'd forgotten all about this game! Haha what a blast from the past :D
I borrowed this game from my friends brother when I was a kid and it was so god damn hard I never made it past the second track. I didn't need any crazy distractions like "music" anyway.
Man, I recently bought this game from a Game Traiders store. I was so stoked when I found it. I remember really loving the intro music.
My GOD! a review of a game i own! This game is freaking EPIC!!
I used to be glued to this game 😂😂

I used to play this game on pc when I was 6 :)
haha nice. I was doing the same B-)
I was emulating this game on the Atari ST emulator for Sega Dreamcast the other day! I love emulating old PC's on the Dreamcast especially with the offical mouse and keyboard and controller.
God I love my versatile Dreamcast!
LOL i used to play this on PC a LOT :D loved this game :) specially the tracks on mountains :) good times
lol @ 0:27 I am wearing my Lotus shirt with that same exact emblem right now watin this vid! Gotta love Classic Game Room!
I love this game still have it happy memories
played this game on the pc in school with friends,... it was awesome! :)
For Amiga it was very cult game. Especially music was awesome.
"out of my way! im cheating... i mean winning!" lol the way marks says it is just freakin cool
this was the first racing game i ever owned !
Never questioned how my car was able to jump over logs
Lotus Trilogy for Amiga CD32 - best racing game-package out there. Lotus 3 has actual [wind] blowing, which will affect your driving.
I love this intro Theme!!!
I had this game on the pc I think it was one of the first pc games I ever owned and I loved it, I have to mention that I'm sure this game was identitcal to Jaguar XJ220 on the Amiga.
i had this game!! hours and hours of fun along with revenge of shinobi as a counter alternative :D
I used to play this game for hours.
In the beginning showing vehicle data, the 1992 Lotus Esprit SE does not come stock with 364 hp & 361 ft pd, stock was 264hp & 261 ft pd,
Best theme song ever!!! Especially on the Amiga version!!!
MARKS! SET! GO!
I loved this game on the Amiga (Lotus Turbo Challenge 2). The Genesis version, while not as good, is still a very good version.
I love the menu music - the Genesis version is decent, but the Amiga version is awesome.
I really liked the sequel.
My favorite game as a kid, never past the second level. Ever. and even passing the first level was a 1/10 chance at most
1st time I ever played this game was last year (2010). I always had it and never played it b/c it never worked. I sprayed some "Green Works" Cleaner spray on a q-tip and it work really good. Even with Slugpace you might not be able to complete storm.
That's where mancell comes in, you automatically win the race even if you don't finish.
The driving was really good for the time , almost felt like a cd racer . Not roadrash level of fun, but a great alternative to outrun imo.
I played this soooo much in my Amiga that any time I listen to the menu song I'm 15 all over again
Agree the Amiga version was the golden version
This game was awesome in it's day, this was also the first racegame i know that you could play 2 player simul in championship mode
Hey Mark! You could drive underwater at 3:51. But when you`re cheating you are too fast so you get over it. I tested it. ;-)
Happy easter in advance to all.
I wish I knew about the slugpace code when I was kid. :D
There used to be like a circular paper with helmets and numbers as far as I can remember.
yay lotus are back in a video game
I wouldnt be surprised if Frank is at your door right now.. ;D
CGR FTW!! Keep doing what you're doing!~
you should try the amiga version! the sound is a lot better and you can even turn on the radio :D
To sum up, the game is an ok Out Run Clone, and Timothy Dalton is awesome.
Loved and hated this game so much as a kid. The best feature was the "YEHEHAW!!" cheering on the C button ;3 Oh and... type "STANDISH" for the Autobahn level.
I had this game on the genesis and yes it was quite difficult. It took some work to beat the game through without any cheating.
Ah yes, this is actually a port of Lotus 2 on the Amiga, only the sound and music is much MUCH better on Amiga. Good smooth racer.
I like how they put the gear indicator, remaining time, speedometer, and boost meter (or whatever that red bar is) at the very top, with fully half a screen of empty space between them and the action. Honestly... I used to write my name on all of my games... That handwritting looks like mine.... That may very well be my old cartridge.
Sega Genesis review by Mark, what can be better than that?
I use to be friends with this guy with a lotus game with a radio feature on the sega genesis
great review...
I just love the new Orange!
Its way better!
No radio because Chapman said to his engineers, "add lightness".
Thanks for the video. I was going to buy it because I remember playing it on the amiga 500. It's way better.
"Get out of my way im cheating! i mean winning..."
The Lotus esprit mark is driving sounds like it's underwater 3:45
See mark there is an underwater lotus in this game.
I lovedddd this game.
Funny how the entire game is played on the bottom 1/8th of the screen. That is a lot of sky.
this game looks cool tbh D:
Wish I knew about "slugpace" when I was a kid...
@DavesComment No way, man. The correct train of thought is as follows: "Desert? I've been through the desert on a horse with no name... by the band America. American... as apple pie."
He should definitly review Stunt GP (PS2)...it's so epic
@Trusteft I agree! I had Lotus 3 for my PC back in the days and I played it a lot. And I mean a LOT xD with 2 players it rocked! I have so many good memories of this game... it's really good, although Mark doesn't agree ^^
Mark whats your favorite band? Aha or Duran Duran? Lol...
OMFG! He need to sort out that volume! I have had the same volume on all day (7) then when these videos come on... down to 1!
"out of my way I'm cheating..I mean winning" LOL
Well, Mark...looks like you have to do a review of the Amiga version. ;)
Actually, Amiga game reviews would be friggin' awesome!
@Purly me too played this on PC! aahh! old days!
"The music in this game is weird" Yeah, so weird that when it plays in Top Gear you love it! Yay for inconsistent opinions!
You should have reviewed the Amiga version of this game!
Aww Mark, why didn't you mention that C is the "YEE-HAW!!!" button? D:
"Outta my way, I'm cheating! I mean winning!"
Although I love the Mega Drive, Lotus and Lotus 2 on my Amiga was my life back in the day. The first real family gaming experience I ever had, playing Lotus with my father
Happy days
@jcnbw01 That is Lotus III: The Ultimate Challenge on PC. IMO the best game ever made, especially in split-screen mode. And there Lotus even managed to install radio into the cars. ;-)
Review Amiga games like Turrican, Alien Breed, Chuck Rock 2, Super Frog!
Looks like a challenge :P i wanna try it
technically this is Lotus 2 from the Amiga / Atari ST. It's the least playable of the series, unless you are fond of the Outrun approach! I prefer the circuit racing in Lotus 1, on the ST ;)
I wonder if the DUX password also works in the genesis version.
What's the best racing game on the genesis? I was a genesis fan in the 16-bit era, and I still am. does anyone know of a racing game on the genesis that's worthy enough to compare to super mario kart and f-zero?
The Amiga version was best by far the best I'm not sure if you could get all 3 games for the Genisis like you could for the Amiga
The Genesis had 2 and 3, but it didn't have the first one. So second was named 1 and 3 was named 2 in it.
Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious
LOTUS!!!! WOOT
I had this game on my Sega Mega Drive and thought it was a decent game.
reminds me of Top Gear for SNES
Mark should review minecraft. That would make me happy :D
why does the car only go to 176 MPH thats such a weird number for a speed limit
"out of my way, Im cheating... I mean winning" CHarlie Sheen?
no room for a radio, that area of the dash was needed for the flamethrower controls
Its weight reduction, even powered windows are optional on Lotuses. You watch Top Gear, you should know this.
GAME OVER YEEEEAAAAHH
does that super car go back in time when you reach 1888 miles per hour :D
Game Over YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that comparing a FM synthesizer chip (YM2612) with a DSP chip (Paula) is kind of pointless, but to each its own...
Why did they always make the sky take up 3/4 of the screen on these games?
