+RetroGamerAaron YES! i believe that also, the number of hidden amazing games in Sega Genesis/Mega Drive is sometimes beyond comprehension, it felt like treasure hunting, there's always something new!
Preach it. I get so fed up with people dismissing the system. I suppose in the end it's good for me. Less competition for the good shit and bad for them to miss out on great titles due to a narrow mind.
It is the dismissive MD wasn't as good and SNES that I dislike. The MD and SNES were both great for different reasons. MD innovated genres like RTS and action arcade games while the SNES perfected some of the NES platformers and the JRPG. While the MD had some problems with colour and sound quality, the SNES simply could not emulate the many genres available on the MD, which blows SNES away for 2 player simultaneous and even raw graphics Virtua Racing > Star Fox in terms of visuals and FPS. Chrono Trigger however would be horrid running on Mega Drive LOL, but everyone knows this I would say.
It would only have more hidden gems if it was a POS that was discarded by many gamers clearly looking for something good to play. So yeah, it was clearly set up to have "more hidden gems".
Some other Great Must Own Hidden Gems Sega Genesis:Space Invader 91 - an upgrade of the classic game lot of great power up weapons when you shoot the ufo.Shadow of the beast - very challenging side scroller with amazing graphics of the timeVirtual Pinball - create your own pinball machine lots of options to choose fromDeath Of Superman - Great Graphics fun beat em upPunisher - same as above
This is why they call him The Immortal John Hancock! Dude, I've seen countless Sega Genesis clips on YT and this is the first time I've seen most of these games.
I remember magazines and the back of instruction manuals hyping Sub-Terrania up so much. Most of these games I never heard of either, so this was a really fun video. Also, John Hancock without a beard looks so...wrong...yet so right
What a bounch of great games. I've got Phantom 2040 and it's an amazing tittle. Sub Terrania is on my wish list too. And I love Jewel Master, it remembers me another hidden gem, Mystic Defender!
Phantom 2040 was literally my very first game and it holds a special place in my heart. Rad missions and bosses. A ton of secrets and it has alternative storylines. BAD ASS!
OMG!!! I couldn't remember Mazin Saga: Mutant Fighter's name!!! I used to love the crap out of that game, but I could never find it because I forgot the title! Thanks a ton for showing it!!!
i rented and played Sub Terrania a bunch as a kid. difficult but fun. A lot of games that ive never heard of here. this is what a hidden gems video is supposed to be.
I grew up as a "genesis" kid and I've never heard of any of these games. Though I do remember 'Phantom 2040' for some reason. (I got my SNES a little later.) I also had the Sega master system, which my mom bought for some reason, before getting my NES(which I convinced her to buy for a few reasons my child brain came up with, and looking back were valid reasons). So it's weird, I was a SEGA kid, turned Nintendo kid. I wish I still had all of it. But yeh.. Good list. Obscure titles that look good. I'll have to check them out. Good List, Thank you.
Holy shieeet! Mystical Fighter so that was the name of this game. I used to play this game even before I learned to read and write :3 Had totally forgotten for 15-16 years or so.
Warsong! It is a turn based strategy similar to Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem. It is the first in the long running series called "Langrisser" in Japan (we finally get a new game in America this year from this series on the 3DS). It is my favorite Sega Genesis Game and the very first game I can remember buying with my own earned money. Definitely something to checkout.
So jealous. Not in the position to start collecting for Genesis but can't wait until I can. Saving this vid for reference. I don't know if this is possible but having a collab of some kind with Mark from Classic Game Room would be awesome.
The funny thing is randomly picked a few games from this video and looked at sold listings on ebay.... exactly what I had figured... a shit load of them all sold on the same day (today). We can probably expect prices to rise now
I've really been building my genesis collection lately so thx for this came out at rite time for me. Great looking games here I need to try. Jewel master is great. And hard.
Atommic Runner and Mötley Crüe pinball still in my bookshelf XD. I played Wardner because I rent it in a videoclub, and always wanted to have it, but it was almost imposible to find it in Spain to buy...
"best thing about it. Not that expensive"... oh it will be now after people buy all the cheap copies off ebay, causing these games to artificially inflate in price. Miss the days before UA-cam, when you buy games at reasonable prices.
My favorites here would be Sub-Terrania, Final Zone, Blades of Vengeance, and Phantom 2040. I'd love Sub-Terrania because I grew up playing the Atari Lunar Lander and Gravitar arcade games, and have always liked the inclusion of gravity (if it's not too difficult) in space games. It's fun having to hold a position while rotating, to shoot a base or to tractor-beam up fuel cells. Final Zone reminds me of the PS1 game Future Cop: LAPD, where you could transform your vehicle from hovercar to battlemech. That was a tough and detailed game that I enjoyed nonetheless. Blades of Vengeance is immediately cool due to its resemblance to Rastan, Cadash, Blank Tiger, Magic Sword, and other side-scrolling fantasy fighters. Phantom 2040 makes me think of other side-scrolling games with highly dexterous heroes like Strider, Shinobi, and Ninja Gaiden.
Phantom 2040 and Sub Terrania were great game that i still own :P I think i might've heard of Mazin Saga Mutant Fighter back in the day but looking at it now i think i'll have to try it :P
Mystical Fighter is one of the greatest games EVER for the megadrive(genesis). People would go insane at rentshops on the weekend to pick this game. Such an AMAZING coop beat m up! Actually here in Brazil it is not hidden at all, pretty much everyone who played megadrive knows about this game.
I REMEMBER MUTANT FIGHTER! Man, I had utterly forgotten about that game until the box art. Woof. Yeah rented it once. It beat me like a drum. EDIT: Ex-Mutants was the same boat. Loved the Phantom 2040 show, never played the games.
phantom 2040 is one of the underrated ones. 32bit Metal music, awesome lvls with choices that actually impact the story. one of the favourites hands down
actually neat thing about the property it was based on, the phantom was the first super hero comic/ comic strip EVER. he predates every single comic book hero. and the comic strip is still going to this day
I would just quite like to see more of the collection, just some top games that should be played and or collected at a reasonable price. Genesis or Megadrive to me (from the UK) is awesome, would love to see more!
My favorite games I owned on my Genesis were X-Men 2: Clone Wars and Toe Jam and Earl 2: Panic on Funkatron (although Toe Jam and Earl 1 is a good game also). Talk about any of those games.
Glad that you FINALLY did a Genesis hidden gems, but give me more! I'm a fan of Outlander. Essentially, Mad Max without the license, the Genesis version is much better than the SNES game. Featuring side scrolling item collection and combat, along with first person driving sections, with the latter being the more exciting of the two. As you're driving, you can look out of the side windows and use your shotgun to hold off rivals in pursuit.
Love blade of vengeance it blew my mind as a kid.I loved ylthe primordial vibe of the game.i felt like i had a true graphically great arcade port to sega
yay for this, the other week i was actually looking for a sega hidden gems video by you as i found and repaired my old chinese sega mega drive 2 clone... still trying to fix my original sega genesis but as the cartridge slot is missing 2 pins its going to be pretty hard to do... anyway i also found and fixed (midway there but already funcional) it would be great to have a famicom hidden games! or another NES one! love you metal jesus, love from argentina
When someone says they have every sega genesis game, they really need to show that they have Tetris for the genesis, its the hardest game to find for the system and only 2-3 known in existence.
maximum carnage, golden axe, vectorman, batman animated series is good, shinobi 3,strider 2,xmen clone wars, splatter house, alien storm any of those would be cool. btw good vid^-^
I played mystical fighter and jewel master, awesome games but jewel master as kid I always found it pretty hard, even though I played it alot I remember not going too far with the game.
Awesome video, Metal Jesus. It made me go back to my genesis to play some games. The problem is that i need to buy a cable to connect my console to the tv. Should i use SCART ou RGB?
Mazin Saga was a manga work of Go Nagai. It has been on halt since 1992 (at least that's the info I can find in english). Mazinger Z appears in this video. SUPAA ROBOTTO! MAZIN-GO!
The Sega Genesis probably has more hidden gems than any other system. The library is definitely overlooked by many gamers and collectors.
+RetroGamerAaron YES! i believe that also, the number of hidden amazing games in Sega Genesis/Mega Drive is sometimes beyond comprehension, it felt like treasure hunting, there's always something new!
Agreed...everyone always talking about the Saturn, but the Genesis is where it is at.
Preach it. I get so fed up with people dismissing the system. I suppose in the end it's good for me. Less competition for the good shit and bad for them to miss out on great titles due to a narrow mind.

2 of my favorite Genesis games were "Beyond Oasis" and "Soldiers of Fortune"
My mother got me Sub Terania for Christmas one year! So good!
If I was John Hancock... I'd die a happy man. Because I wouldn't die. I'd be immortal
Ring Master, Blades of Vengeance, and Final Zone were all great games. This brought back some good memories
This is why they call him The Immortal John Hancock! Dude, I've seen countless Sega Genesis clips on YT and this is the first time I've seen most of these games.
Rambo 3.....ABSOLUTE BEST SEGA GENESIS GAME EVER. PERIOD!
I remember magazines and the back of instruction manuals hyping Sub-Terrania up so much. Most of these games I never heard of either, so this was a really fun video.
Also, John Hancock without a beard looks so...wrong...yet so right
The Phantom 2040 was a FANTASTIC game based on a FANTASTIC cartoon.
Which was based on a FANTASTIC Comic.
What a bounch of great games. I've got Phantom 2040 and it's an amazing tittle. Sub Terrania is on my wish list too. And I love Jewel Master, it remembers me another hidden gem, Mystic Defender!
Thanks to this video i learned about "Blades of Vengeance".. what a game.!!
And Phantom too, i was finish it in 1997 (pure sweet memories)..
Phantom 2040 was literally my very first game and it holds a special place in my heart. Rad missions and bosses. A ton of secrets and it has alternative storylines. BAD ASS!
Can't wait for more, the Sega Genesis is one of the only systems I still have from childhood, the nostalgia runs deep
Sonic, he had hidden Gems in his games
OMG!!! I couldn't remember Mazin Saga: Mutant Fighter's name!!! I used to love the crap out of that game, but I could never find it because I forgot the title! Thanks a ton for showing it!!!
mutant league hockey. amazing game
Yeeeeeeees
Waking up to a new metal Jesus rocks vid that's the stuff right there lol
Im buying a couple of these. I haven't even heard of mazin saga mutant fighter!
+Kacy DaGameNerd Mazin Saga is AMAZING. The boss fights look like something from the NEO GEO.
Kacy DaGameNerd great game! It's called Mazin Wars in Europe. loved it as a kid.
i rented and played Sub Terrania a bunch as a kid. difficult but fun. A lot of games that ive never heard of here. this is what a hidden gems video is supposed to be.
I love the Sega Genesis. I had one as a kid . It's my absolute favourite console.
Woah sun terrania right out the gate… one of my favourites as a kid
Genesis is so overlooked. I'm glad I got some of these before you guys let everyone know how awesome they are and raise demand.
I'm surprised Red Zone was not mention or even Battle Tech. That was an awesome Mech game. Eliminate Down is another good mention.
Its not a hidden gem as most people know about it. But Shining Force is probably my fave genesis game
+RetroR0bbie I am with you on that
Shining Force is garbage. Literal trash.
I really enjoyed it but I guess its not for everyone
+RetroR0bbie yup that is the truth if we all loved the same stuff then it would be a boring world.
Shining Force 1&2 are both awesome.
Glad to see some Sega and Hancock on the show!
I grew up as a "genesis" kid and I've never heard of any of these games. Though I do remember 'Phantom 2040' for some reason. (I got my SNES a little later.) Jewel Master is indeed brilliant! Definitely a Megadrive must play :)
I've been trying to find the name of Mazin Saga for so long! Thank you!
I love the hidden Gems videos on youtube but every time they drop. The price of those games go up!
Warsong! It is a turn based strategy similar to Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem. Wow. Those games actually do look like hidden gems! they look friggin awesome and I have only heard of a couple! impressive!
Ex-Mutants comic was drawn by Ron Lim, same artist of the Infinity Gauntlet.
Chiki Chiki Boys!
***** That's a damn shame too, such a fun little game. Odd it's so unknown for a Capcom platformer.
I have Mazin Saga Mutant Fighter and Blades of Vengeance, definitely good picks!
So jealous. Not in the position to start collecting for Genesis but can't wait until I can. Saving this vid for reference. I don't know if this is possible but having a collab of some kind with Mark from Classic Game Room would be awesome.
the picture Thay show with the crüe ball game was a poster that came with 1989's Dr.Feel Good album. (If you were lucky enough to get one).
And hard.
A hoot of a game and great to play with your mates game that gets missed to often is general chaos.
Man, these games look awesome. Makes me very nostalgic for the 16 bit era!

Great video keep up the variety in content, would defiantly like to see Best Sega sports games eg. Flight sims, or racing
Decap attack was pretty good .One of the first games i bought for myself .Crash dummies was good aswell, but i remember it being quite difficult
Yeah man, Jewel Master was definitely a good one... It also had two really good musical tracks.
Beardless John Hancock!? What is going on!?
Glad to see some more content with John Hancock. Also glad to see he now has his own channel!
One I used to love as a kid. Crusader Of Centy or soliel as it was sold and known as in Australia.
phantom 2040 is one of the underrated ones. 32bit Metal music, awesome lvls with choices that actually impact the story. one of the favourites hands down
actually neat thing about the property it was based on, the phantom was the first super hero comic/ comic strip EVER. he predates every single comic book hero. and the comic strip is still going to this day
Ex-Mutants was cool, I remember renting it as a kid. Also check out Soldiers of Fortune if you haven't. =) A hidden gem there too.
Atomic runner was awesome. It was one of my favourite games on the genesis. Never realised it was seen as a hidden gem though.
I just bought Sub Terrania. Thanks for the suggestion!
Blades of Vengeance is one of my top10 Genensis games ever
I've heard of Sub-Terrania, and Atomic Runner is the Genesis version of Atomic Runner Chelnov.
The only RPG I ever really liked - Buck Rogers Countdown To Doomsday. Also, Chakan The Forever Man, Boogerman, and Zombies Ate My Neighbours.
I would just quite like to see more of the collection, just some top games that should be played and or collected at a reasonable price. Genesis or Megadrive to me (from the UK) is awesome, would love to see more!

Love blade of vengeance it blew my mind as a kid.I loved ylthe primordial vibe of the game.i felt like i had a true graphically great arcade port to sega
2nd favorite system. SO much fun to collect for, and usually really reasonable prices
I must be the only guy who loved Chakan the forever man. That was such a cool game
Cadash had a Japanese release on the Turbo Graphics 16 (PCE) Console. I believe it even had an extra character.
Crue Ball is awesome! The endgame level is amazing!
i love these kind of Hidden Gems videos
I had only seen John with hat and beard so seeing him in this video was funny. Couldn't believe it was him at first.
Shadowrun is an awesome action RPG. It's like Blade Runner meets The Matrix
Star Wars 32x was a blast one of my favorite games for the 32x addon. Any of the Disney move as well.
yay for this, the other week i was actually looking for a sega hidden gems video by you as i found and repaired my old chinese sega mega drive 2 clone... still trying to fix my original sega genesis but as the cartridge slot is missing 2 pins its going to be pretty hard to do... anyway i also found and fixed (midway there but already funcional) it would be great to have a famicom hidden games! or another NES one! love you metal jesus, love from argentina
Flashback was my personal favourite game for the Genesis (or Megadrive as I know it as) followed closely by Kid Chameleon.
Love these, I know not nearly enough about awesome Megadrive games.
Man I loved Wardner in the Arcade and also on the Mega Drive.
had no idea the genesis had bad ass games like this. thank you for this video.
Top video! Makes me think I’ll start collecting for the game collection one day 🧐
When someone says they have every sega genesis game, they really need to show that they have Tetris for the genesis, its the hardest game to find for the system and only 2-3 known in existence.
When i got Mazin Saga, next breath i took, was after completed the game. Best Sega game i´ve ever played!
When I played that game when I was a young lad, it was hard as hell!
Karcus Korpse
There´s that easy mode too ;)
Can I get a happy birthday from the Metal Jesus? It would make my day!
Can I leech onto this with you? And happy birthday!
+Marquis M. Happy birthday! How old?
+8 Bit Deathkvlt Too old to matter dude... 😅

+R2 MY D2 Alcohol poisoning within minutes.
Red Zone! The only 16-Bit game (That I know of) that contains Full Motion Video.
oh I'm so jealous of that dude right now every Sega Genesis game wow
Ever since I got a Retron5 I've wanting to explore more of the Genesis but at the moment I'm caught up with the Dreamcast.
Mazin Saga was a manga work of Go Nagai. It has been on halt since 1992 (at least that's the info I can find in english).
Mazinger Z appears in this video. SUPAA ROBOTTO! MAZIN-GO!
I'd love to see Gadget Twins and the Valis games.
Mystical Fighter! My first Mega Drive game...
reason why Atomic Runner has Data East, is because it was released in the arcade first then licensed..
I played the Wardner arcade game. It wasn't bad at all and very beatable.
Atomic Runner is one of the weirdest games youll ever play. Skeleton Krew is worth checking out for the graphics and music
Elemental Master needs to be on a genesis hidden gems list.
Where the hell is GRANADA??? perhaps one of the best shmups of the megadrive!!
Jewel Master!!! So amazing!! Another great game is Chakkan
