Thanks for the “dart demo”. I need to add that to my emergency kit. I have sewn (needle&thread) on a larger sidewall gash using sealant and got me thru several rides until i could replace it.
Unreal! I haven't had to use my Dart yet but glad to know they work so well. (I'll still carry a tube to ward off Murphy's law but the fact that it held in that location gives a lot of confidence)
Maybe it was just the tool I had, but I found that the bacon strips were hard to get into the little tool. The nice thing about the darts is they are very easy to use.
Cool video! It reminds me, I'd dove for you to do a tire review video. A roundup/comparison video of some of your favorites for different applications would be really helpful. Thanks for all the good content. Dawson rips!
My experience with the Dart is that the chemical reaction takes a bit longer than they let on. I usually have to pump the tire back up 1 or 2 more times before it finally seals, but those were rather large punctures, so that was probably a factor.
Chump MTB that’s good to know cause if I am out far away from a bike pump , I can imagine one co2 cartridge ain’t going help or fill it to my preferred psi ...........if I am losing it out the hole ....🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔😳😳😳
I punctured the sidewall on my rear tire, large cut, I am new to tubeless (just returned to MTB after many years away), went to the local Bike shop and they used a Dart on the tire, I was amazed, I took the tool and a refill because I wan't sure it would hold, but it is been holding very well...
I pinch flatted 3 different tires this spring. First two, "bacon strips" got me home, but lost all the air. Last tire I had the DART tool and I am impressed, good as new now. Carry the DART everywhere I ride.
ive used bacon strips for this exact repair, i used like 5 strips and rubber cement much like you would for an auto tire and it has held without any trouble for 3 rides and counting. Ive tried the dart without as much luck, though the dart did get me off the trail.
I had a puncture at the same spot and used a dart. Mine was definitely a pinch flat because I had a puncture in the tread as well that the sealant took care of. It’s still holding about 200 miles later.
I had a hole slightly higher and with the tire on the rim, the sidewall was flexible enough that the dart pushed right through. Bacon strip worked better but they're so soft I find then hard to work with.
I have a fun first time use with the dart after a huge nail puncture. I went to put the dart kinda sideways and the little stick that hold the dart broke. I went crazy "oh what I going to doooo?" Lol, forgot I have another dart in the other side of the cap. But yeah, brand new dart and I broke one side. My fault for going sideways I believe. But it works, good product.
Is this your trip testing out the spur? Question about the dart: should you carry extra sealant to optimize the effectiveness, or just carry a tube and dart later?
I always carry an extra bottle of sealant and a valve core remover. If you don’t lose very much sealant with a puncture then all you need to do is put in the dart
There are two different kinds of wobbles for tires. One is if the bead is not fully seated in the channel then that can cause a serious wobble. You can usually recognize that by spinning the tire and watching the bead. If it dips down into the rim then you know it's not fully seated. The other kind is just a slight defect in the tire which I've seen with several tires. Can't remember if they were maxxis or not.
Just last week I returned a new Maxxis Minion DHF because of a defect in the tire. I determined I had a faulty tire after reinstalling the tire and still had the same wobble. Then I took my Cushcore out to verify it wasn't something other than a faulty tire and still had the same wobble. The replacement tire had no issues thankfully.
According to the instructions you’re supposed to tilt the tire upside down so that the stands flows to the dirt area. That would’ve sealed it much quicker. Also a good mechanic never turned his bike upside down. 😂🤣😭
The same happend whit a specialized butcher try the same whit a beacon strip don't work I think maxxis tires are more tough the specialized where almost new never buy specialized tires again

That's pretty impressive! I may end up picking one up for the peace of mind out on the trail. Great video.
I have a hole in the exact same spot and I have been running a dart on there for a about a month

I've used "bacon strips" which are I think the same kind of thing. Worked great.
same concept.....but different.

@@ClintGibbs I had the same situation with te bacon strips. Darts are VERY easy to use.
Thank you Clint for your time and efforts. They are greatly appreciated.

Got a dart but never had to use it. Decided to replace the old begging strips, from the looks of it glad I did.

Does it seal/react with other sealant or just “stans”?
Can buy the refills and use a standard bacon strip fork to poke it in?
Interesting save having to replace the tyre or using a tube
Haven't seen a stans dark to buy in Australia but I will get one as soon as I can thanks for the info
I have multiple rips like this in my maxxis dhr and the local shop said it was unrepairable... i guess ill find out!
How's the tire holding?
Perfect!
Good to know it might work. I think you may have to sew it a little. Side note you thinking about getting the new GoPro announced today?
Yep, I should have the Hero 9 in a few days.
Is this good for road tires? What if you have lost all air from the tire, is it easy to insert the dart?
I would check Stan's site for information about road tires. I have not looked into that.
Or gorilla tape with tube for bead seperation. Strongest sidewalls have been spesh black diamond casings. Have used exo+ and DD.
I had a hole slightly higher and with the tire on the rim, the sidewall was flexible enough that the dart pushed right through. Bacon strip worked better but they're so soft I find then hard to work with.
Double down casing for sure in some places but they aren’t light tyres

Definitely a pinch. A foam insert (CushCore, Rimpact, etc) could have prevented it, and I suggest at least using on the rear.
Great idea to put armoring on the fence
That was actually a cabin we rented for 4 days
I have this dart on my backpack right now so no more worries 😎
You could always put a patch on the inside...
True. But that might be a little sketchy on the bead.
I use Stans sealant...... but does anyone know if it works with other sealant ? (I would guess it would)
I've seen reports that it works with Orange Seal. I believe the chemical reaction is with the latex so should work with any latex-based sealant.
I use the MaXalami from Germany and it Works perfect.

@@ClintGibbs how much would you carry? On the ride?
@@jimjigga one bottle of sealant.
Looking good! I have an entirely different question. Have you ever encountered wobbely Maxxis tires?
Cheers David

I just bought two of these.

Haha. Fancy slippers. Instant like :-)
The plug is supposed to react with sealant already in there. Initially it didn’t have sealant to react to .
