Stan's DART Tool: Can It Fix A Flat Tire Better Than Bacon Strips?

  • Stan's NoTubes is back at it with, the DART; what might be considered the greatest and easiest tire plug of all time. Bacon strips will soon be a thing of the past. The DART Tubeless Tire Plugs can be stacked up to fit tire gashes of all sizes. Jeff even sliced a 9mm cut into the tread and sidewall of this tire to see how well it works. Although we did run into some complications trying to seal the test tire with bacon strips, the Stan's DART tool came back with the best results we could have hoped for and because of that, we are all switching over to the Stan's DART Tool from here on out. Click play and watch why the DART works so much better than Bacon Strips and why you should consider getting some if you are prone to getting flat tires out on the trails!

    I've had to use my Dart on my road tyres about twice and a fellow cyclist who was stuck at the roadside once. They seem to hold in the tyre much better than the bacon strips or worms as we call them . My road tyre continued to hold air for a further 2000k until I scrapped the tyre in March this year. I'm converted and now have several Darts tools taped to each bike.Enjoy the ride ...not the punctures.

    I've used Stan's Darts successfully twice now to seal up two different slashes in my road tubeless tires (Bontrager R3 32mm). They work fantastic basically. The only concern I have is that if you have one in there, and your tire goes completely flat and you're riding on the rim for a time, it might be possible for the pointed plastic end to poke a hole in your rim tape. Would have to be in the right spot (spoke hole) of course, and would have to hit it straight on, but seems like it could happen. Bacon strips have always been a pain though, so the Dart is worlds better.

    • @lazurm
      @lazurm 4 роки тому +1

      Zach Wagner: From what Stan's wrote to me, the plastic "barb", or tip, will not damage your rim tape upon another flat where the tire is run to the point of eliminating the air inside. In fact, it was designed with this issue in mind.

    • @dirragon1
      @dirragon1 4 роки тому +1

      @@lazurm Huh... that's good to know, though I'm not sure how it's supposed to not damage it. Either way, I think it's a pretty rare situation where it could happen.

      You push it in until it bottoms out on the tool and tire. Very intuitive and easy. Just stab it! Depending on the size tire, that will likely not hit the rim. At least not on a Mtb tire, maybe a road bike tire.

Also insert all the way to where only a lil bit sticks out, about height of the knobs. Twist half a turn one direction and pull out the tool . 🤷 Maybe I've never had a 9mm cut before lol, but definitely do like the new system and will probably pick sum up soon. Has anyone tried using just the Stans Darts with another tool? I'm wondering if the Oneup EDC tool could be modified to work with these or if one of the tools that fit in the end of your handle bar could be modified to work too.

    What sealant was in the tire?

    Hi Jeff, forgot to mention......I happened to drive up to the WWC in PA from Wash. DC cuz I was supper bored that day and lo and behold who was the second person to greet me once I walked in but none other than the Jedi himself. Jeff, I said to you then and I still mean it. "I'm going to cut your hair." Funny cuz you asked, "Are you are barber?" And I with all honesty said "No. But I do have clippers and a straight razor in the car." Now some say its weird that I carry hair clippers, straight razors, $900 worth of Phantom Fireworks and Bear mace with me all the time but hey, come on I'm from DC. Is that truly the weirdest thing y'all have heard? Anyhooo, I'm still gonna give you a free haircut and in advance FYI I don't accept tips. Its just my gift to you.
    Peace and Chicken Grease.

    The Dart is very good, Im sold on them, but I barely use bacon strips, I end up giving them all away because I rarely get punctures

    Dynaplug makes the best tire plugs IMO. Never failed me and they come in a wide variety of sizes/colors/limited editions... all super rad and based out of Chico, CA!

    How does the Dart compare against the Dynaplug? I carry the Dyna with 4 plugs but never had to use them,,, yet....

      I'd like to know this as well, I've had to use dynaplugs a couple of times and love them.

      John Squibb I’ve had the dynaplug system before and the quickly dried out and did not work at all, attempted to fix a flat and went through several dynaplugs with no luck. I’ve used bacon strips with great success so if this works better than it will be a perfect system to keep in your pack

      John Squibb: One issue with the Dynaplug is the fact that the bard is too long and there's a possibility of damaging the inside of the tire. Worse, the bard is metal and can damage upon a second flat that allows the tire to touch the rim.

    This tool may work on MTB tires with approx. 2-3 Bar tirepressure; will it also work on road tires that are inflated to 5-6 Bar ?

      Yes it does. Sidewall punctures as well.

    I use Dynaplugs. I tried Stans darts, but they didn't work for me. They break off too easily

    Is slime a compatible sealant with the dart?

      James Miller: Only latex based tire sealants are compatible.

    How do you use the dart tool on an already flatten tire?
