  • GUYS. Tics are not a trend!! I'm genuinely DISGUSTED rn. This tiktok trend NEEDS to stop. Like. STOP FAKING TICS. TICS ARE NOT A TREND. There's a new thing going around where people wear their "oodies" and fake tics to gain followers and clout. THIS IS NOT OKAY. I'M SO UPSET. UGH. Tourettes is REAL and it's HARD TO LIVE WITH. DON'T YOU DARE FAKE TICS. UGH. Rant over.
As a girl with Tourette's, I would love to spread awareness and education about my disorder, as I feel it is quite misunderstood in today's society. The media has made it out to be a swearing disorder only, which is far from true. I hope this video will educate you on Tourette Syndrome and tic disorders! Life with Tourettes can be difficult, but just know that we're the same as everyone else...except for the fact we tic like clocks! (:
    Thanks for watching!

Tics ruined my life, my dream job was always surgeon and then I got diagnosed and told that would never be possible! I’ve lost all my friends when it got severe because they thought I was weird and they were embarrassed by me. I’m glad tourettes is being recognised and accepted but this is really offensive. These little kids are ruining everything, people who actually have it are told they’re faking because it’s being faked/mocked so much

@@thetickedoffpianoplayer4193 I don't see why you'd make videos like "going to Walmart with tourette's," if you weren't at least, in some way, attempting to be seen or recognized (at least online) for your condition. It baffles me to be so upset by somebody proposing that question to you, when you yourself (via name and videos uploaded) are the one who has brought your tourette's to the internet. You created a channel that broadcasts your condition. You also most likely don't know the reasoning behind the person's question, they may not have had such malicious intentions. Perhaps they wanted to gain a better understanding, perhaps they wanted to mock you. You have no idea but you shouldn't create your online identity based on your condition and then allow yourself to be taken back when you get targeted because of it. That's how the internet works, specifically, video entertainment. I'm not trying to be harsh or rude and I'm sure you'll have some choice words for me, which I'd welcome. My point is, you don't open a door to your house and get mad when flies start coming inside.

@@avihs92 I've made my channel as a means of explaining what it's like to have Tourette's, which is why I uploaded the Walmart vid. I made that because that was the first time I've been able to go to a store since February when the tics became severe, because they were always very mild before. I used to play music professionally and did some streaming online, but when the tics got bad I felt like the only way I could even have an online channel was if it was a Tourette's channel because I was ticcing literally from the time I woke up until I went to bed. I felt like I couldn't have a normal channel where I just play music now because the tics are so bad. I probably shouldn't have gotten that frustrated with that guy, but I don't think it's cool to ask for a tic attack video the way he did. I was also in a pretty dark place when I posted this comment, and normally I would have just laughed about it, as I know that the internet is full of trolls.

I don’t have Tourette’s but sometimes my body will just jerk weirdly. Nothing extreme, it’s more like a sudden shiver or jump with either my whole body or like my leg or arm. I wouldn’t say it’s noticeable to other people I don’t think? I can’t explain it. Like I can’t help it. I tend to do that thing where you move your neck and then it hurts. I was born three months early and had sensory issues when I was little (like grass felt sharp. Luckily not anymore) but I think it’s down to that. So idk if anyone will see this but I work in a mental health facility primarily with teenagers and I’ve noticed since the start of tics trending on tik tok that there’s been a dramatic increase of teenagers faking tics. I don’t like to judge because there is obviously something causing the kids to feel like they need attention so much to the point that they’re willing to fake a debilitating illness but it’s honestly very annoying when you know they are faking it because for some reason people find them “adorable” or “funny” I feel bad for the few kids who are genuinely suffering from tics because they didn’t choose their illness and you can see the disappointment and anger in their faces when they see other kids faking. I guess my point is that more people need to bring light to this trend and help kids realize that what they’re doing isn’t cool and it actually effects people who are actually suffering

Getting diagnosed with Tourette’s was both the best thing and the worst thing that happened to me. Recently I was hospitalized due to what we now know was medication induced dystonia and stayed there for over a week. Now these dystonic attacks were so bad that they thought I was having seizures so they brought in a neurologist and a psychiatrist to help them figure out that it was dystonia. Now I’ve had tics since I was seven but my mother only see saw it as being annoying and would often be very vocal about how it embarrassed her and that I needed to stop or I’d get in trouble. I literally told her my entire life that I couldn’t control it and that I wanted to see a neurologist or SOMEONE that could give me answers Bc my mom never believed me. The day he diagnosed me with Tourette’s and shutting down my mom was the best thing Bc you can’t argue with a neurologist OR a psychiatrist when they and all the doctors and nurses all said the same thing. Ofc my mother tried to discredit him and he literally stopped talking abruptly, stared at my mother for a minute and flat out was like “you know you have tics too right?” AND THE LOOK ON HER FACE WAS ✨PRICELESS✨. He then proceeded to point out her motor tics, as well as point out and make her realize that not only she had it, but so did my uncle. That combined with the fact that we know basically nothing my biological father’s bloodline made one hell of an argument and my mother deadass looked at him, looked at me, and then back at him and goes “well are you sure?” And he deadass stared her in the face basically told her “this is literally my fucking job I’m pretty damn sure” but like, way more formal and professional and it was fucking iconic.
I know this isn’t rlly what ur talking about but I wanted to get that out sorry

I don’t have TS but I do have depression, anxiety, and ADHD. For a lot of my life, (up until about two or three years ago actually) I had always been told to keep my emotions to myself. So, when I finally went to my parents for help because I had started to feel depressed and everything, no one believed me. It actually took me falling into a really dark place before I was able to get help. Sadly, because I had never shown all of these emotions or anything, I didn’t know how to communicate them in a good, healthy way. As a result, I was bullied, accused of faking for attention, etc. There was even one girl, the person that bullied me the most, started acting like she had the disabilities I was dealing with and constantly tried to “outdo” or “one up” me. It was extremely obvious she was faking but there were several times when people would believe her and tell me to stop faking it. Especially when I was having panic attacks. I lost a lot of people I really cared about but it helped me to see who my real friends were. It really is so hard and terrifying. Carly, you are one of my role models and I think you are so beautiful and amazing. Keep up the good work! 💜

i don’t tic too often, only when i think about it too much or when i’m really happy/stimulated(?). i don’t know if that’s the right word. but they come and go so when i’m calmer and not thinking about it i’m fine. it’s lead to my mother making fun of me and saying i’m faking it when i genuinely can’t help it. and because when she brings it up it of course makes it worse, fun cycle and we love the good ol gaslighting. i’ve convinced myself that i’m just faking it for attention somehow, even know it happens when i’m alone as well and i get really embarrassed when it happens too much with people. i’ve hit desks in class because i hold in my tics and it builds up, the first verbal tic i had was ‘kill a cat’ and i wasn’t at all trying to look ‘quirky’ and i got genuinely embarrassed and self conscious of going outside incase i elbowed someone or i said kill a cat.
im on a waiting list to get tested for autism (for separate reasons) now and i’ve spoken to multiple professionals who are luckily on my side and say my mother just doesn’t understand where it comes from. now most of the tics i have are twisting my arm, winking, and bird noises pff. it’s definitely not as bad but it hurts my throat when it happens too much, and of course still would definitely rather not have it. When i’m writing and my arm twists i have to start again and when i’m in the middle of the shop with my mask on making bird noises without even noticing sometimes i get stares. my friends luckily understand, i have one who tics too who has helped me calm down in situations and get a distraction instead of bringing it up and making it worse.
i don’t have torrettes, i don’t know what it is because i haven’t been diagnosed but i’ve been told it could be a product of my possible autism diagnosis or general anxiety. it’s not related to stimming stim too.
but as someone who only really has minor tics, that are sometimes controlled even in the right environment. fuck it’s been difficult. my heart goes out to people who have it worse than me because it is tiring, not only with the tics but with the questions too. i don’t know why people would fake things like this for attention because it isn’t just physical, it is something that can affect you. it’s not quirky or fun or even relatable to people who actually get tics.
please get a personality that isn’t just you faking other people’s real issues because you could be spending your time you put into being fake, to something that’s actually a good cause.

People are worried that if they tic on camera then others will think they are faking it. I personally don't feel concerned about that. I would laugh if someone said I was. You have no idea the intense pressure and physical stimuli I feel all day that causes my tics. It's the most uncomfortable feeling in the world. My worst tic is when my entire chest gets a tickle that is so powerful and uncomfortable. It causes my shoulders to jerk and then I scream for 5 seconds. If someone told me I faked that, I would feel so pissed because they would be dismissing this awful tickle that runs through my entire body. If you have tics, don't worry about if others don't believe it. It's already hell dealing with tics.

Its not a game or joke or a way to get followers or likes and the fact there are people at all let alone some of them kids out there doing it is not ok. For me tics is a huge problem for me, I don’t tic all of the time and some people think that we always have tics everyday. My tics become active when I usually feel stressed because of school, but when I’m not that stress and I feel calm, I would have a few neck jerks then we are good. Tics is not a good thing to fake, I literally have neck pain because of my tics and it’s really not something I can heal whatsoever.
