Thanks for the good will. There just aren't enough cases like Trevors for the device manufacturers to pay the millions of dollars it takes to get FDA approval. The outcome is the insurance companies don't have to pay for something not FDA approved. Medical necessity or not. It was difficult watching him fall apart for years with no possibility of getting help that would eleviate the tics. We just didn't have $160,000 to pay for his surgery. We did get a large chunck of it donated by the Mayo Clinic eventually. That allowed us to make it affordable. Proud Dad and thanks for watching his story.

Hey Trevor, even though this video is a few years old now, it just showed up on my feed. I just wanted to say how much I hope the treatment helped. I'm 40 years old, and when I was a teenager, *I* was listed as one of the worst cases of tourettes ever recorded. I also went through the hell of multiple medications and nothing worked. I also was extremely bullied (nowadays people would be arrested for what they did to me), and had few friends. But, like you, I also found solace and relief through music. Now my tics are much better, but it's still a part of everyday life. So I just wanted to let you know, from a 40 year old lady who's been through it too, there are people out there who understand. Keep up the music, and I wish you the best of luck on both your treatment, and other life goals.
1. This guy is a truly amazing person 2. His story is so inspiring 3. I want his hair 4. Hes NASTY at guitar 5. He makes me wanna be a better person 6. Non related note: His mom looks like she could be his sister
It's momentary and often only temporary. There is a key to it though, being that the source of Tourette is in the frontal lobe and when you are engaged in something that takes your focus you can sometimes find refuge from the tics. However, extreme emotions in either direction can make tics worse. So it's not just things you love, it's the focus. Too excited or too angry can cause 'tic attacks'. Another thing that makes it difficult is adhd is often comorbid with Tourette (also sourced in the frontal lobe) so focusing on things is hard, especially ones that don't have novelty. You may enjoy something but if you don't hit flow or focus in it, it may only distract the tics for a little while.
The theory is that playing an instrument occupies both your motor functions and the areas of the brain associated with creative thinking, kinda the same as writing or something like that, it requires imagination. I've always thought of it as intense music practice uses up the majority of the brain's "RAM".
No vocal tics, a great family, kickass genes, along with a penchant for musical talent. I reckon he's more blessed than most of us! God bless you dude.
Trevor is amazing on so many levels. The show didn't highlight it, but his sisters are equally amazing. He doesn't think of himself as diminished. His improvement following the surgery is going really well. We hope for continued success. We don't like to look at his life through the prism of what he isn't. I am not going to lie, it has been rough to this point, but we, his family, feel every day is a new opportunity. Thanks for your good thoughts... Proud Dad
I will never understand how anyone can bully or stare at someone who has a condition they absolutely cannot control. I love that he’s not letting his severe disability hold him back from what he wants for his future.
The people bullying him need love, not hate. Bullys grow up with judgement and discipline without affection at home. Well adjusted kids with loving parents usually don't act that way.
I will be really lucky to be his friend and hug him all the time and tell him that he has got me as a friend and that I am always beside him. Bullies are narrow-minded. Trevor is so strong and one of the examples of strong ppl.
I'm glad his family is supportive and loving. Cool sisters even came up with 'the stare' to keep people from staring and talking about their brother. He is a fine young man.
Really? Your gonna leave us hanging like that BBC Three? What happened with the electrodes in his brain? Did they work? Does he tic less now? I need answers people. He is my friend now and I need to know he's doing fine.... dooooing fine.
I have mild Tourettes. My kids were not so lucky. Thier saving grace is they are twins so they have each other to lean on. They are adults now and are amazing artists. I'm very proud of them.
Nnnooooooooooo, how could he not have friends...people=shit He's such a nice person, I'll be friends with you !!! Here's a tip: play guitar none stop please,.you sound great.
What a good looking young man, inside and out! Such a wonderful and positive attitude. Love to see his family supports him too. Good luck and God bless.
I don't have tourette's, but I have something called conversion disorder that people often mistake as Tourette's. Essentially, my brain can't handle my emotions so my emotions are converted into physical symptoms like muscle spasms, tics, dizziness, and nausea. When he said that people tend to stay away from him it really struck a chord with me.
Can I just say that I HUGELY appreciate how much screen time was given to Trevor himself, allowing him to tell his own story. So often with disability the focus is on the parents and how they feel about their child's condition, so this was refreshing.
His mom and I were happy to let that be the focus of this story as well. I do not know how the editing would have been if Trevor was not articulate in his presentation of his condition. He graduated High School at 15 years old. So did his sister Olivia and his sister Savannah at 14 years old. We do not treat him like he has a disability and he doesn't live his life like he has one. As a parent, I am proud that he has the wisdom to see through so much of the stigmas out there about his condition. He is 19 years old now. He runs his own non-profit as he is finishing up his Sophomore year in college. Thanks for your comment. Proud Dad

She would headbutt walls and could not even go to school. There is a mini documentary ua-cam.com/video/-yy6UUncUI0/v-deo.html
Alaurah Willow I know which girl your talking about but I think when the say extreme they mean like how many body parts tic and how many times and do they happen simultaneously. In his case almost 70% of his body tics all at once constantly which is very extreme.
Ayaat Wadi I still wouldn’t say it is anywhere near as extreme as hers. I think it is definitely less or more extreme defending on how much it impacts your daily life.
Agreed. I have 2 sons whose tics are much worse without medication. Luckily, medication had helped tremendously for them. I also have a student whose tics are so bad at times that he can't talk or do school work. The mom did say that HIS doctors said that it was the worst case of Tourette THEY had seen, so the title is a little misleading. Finally, he is only 17. His tics could still improve with time. That has at least been the experience of my oldest son--he ticced much more at age 17 than he does now at age 31, though he still shows tics quite frequently.

If there was an elixer called metal, he would definitely overdose on it if he could. Our house vibrates with metal most nights. We have to tied down the furniture some days. He is an amazing 18 year old for sure. Proud Dad
When it said that they couldn’t afford the surgery I instantly wanted to donate a lump of money to him. I am so proud that people with these types of conditions get the spotlight and support. So glad you feel better
... so you donated?
@@jesuschrist.6006 did you finish the video ?
To me it sounds so weird in US you possibly need charity to get vital medical help. I don't mean to mock US but it's just odd, US being a rich Western nation.
@@mikrokupu Over the years the older generation has corrupted every aspect of our lives for the sake of money in their pockets. We are being killed by our own government slowly and no one really cares
I love this kid. He’s a total sweetheart. This is a clip from a full length doc with two other people, one a drummer, and one a little boy. It was the best thing I’ve seen on this topic.
He’s so handsome and sweet
Wishing the best for him 👍🏽❤️

Trevor, you are brave, smart, talented (that finger work on the guitar was outstanding), and very handsome. Why people would bully you is beyond belief. Sad but true. I hope that your new device works well for you.

Would you be interested in some healing that may help your symptoms?
@@Orosian5 I’m actually much better now in terms of the TS. It obviously never goes away, but I’ve made my peace with it. Thank you though.
@@MoonstarGem1 I believe it's possible for it to go away, but if you've made peace with it then that's the important thing.

4. Hes NASTY at guitar
5. He makes me wanna be a better person
6. Non related note: His mom looks like she could be his sister
Nasty good or nasty bad
The tics stop when he does something he loves and is distracted cause his brain is focusing on something else. there has to be some answer in that
I was thinking the same thing
There is. The music makes him feel joy / love. And love overcomes all !
Quite the tell if he doesn´t like you xD

Apart from the fact it doesnt.
if he cut his hair maybe it wouldnt be so bad
It wouldn’t mess it up if he cut it
No vocal tics, a great family, kickass genes, along with a penchant for musical talent. I reckon he's more blessed than most of us! God bless you dude.
dalet bet How is he more blessed?
Not a good comment
Things could be so much worse, but don’t try to defile his struggles.
Those “kickass genes” are what caused him to have Tourette’s. It has a lot to do with genetics. (You can’t have Tourette’s without vocal tics)
3:44 how the music completely shuts the tics down, very impressive!!
To the people that bullied him, I hate you. He seems like a lovely young man, i'd happily be his friend.
The people bullying him need love, not hate. Bullys grow up with judgement and discipline without affection at home. Well adjusted kids with loving parents usually don't act that way.

Awwwwwww I'd be his friend any day. He has a sweet soul.
I don't have tourette's, but I have something called conversion disorder that people often mistake as Tourette's. Essentially, my brain can't handle my emotions so my emotions are converted into physical symptoms like muscle spasms, tics, dizziness, and nausea. When he said that people tend to stay away from him it really struck a chord with me.
the amount of love and compliments in these comments gives me life!!!! I love it!!!!
This comment section gives me hope for humanity. Y‘all have a nice day.
You too! ✌🤟🎶
Proud Dad
His family is so supportive and that is really a gift with a severe case like that
He is so cool, you go Trevor
He seems like a positive, nice young man. Kids can be cruel. Don't worry, buddy. It only gets better after school.
The second case I have heard of a person dealing with the tourettes syndrome where they both say "when I sing or play the guitar the tics go away",,,,, I think that's one of the best therapy with the people dealing with the condition,,,,MUSIC... 💯💯💯💯

It’s fascinating how music seems to relieve ticks for a lot of people with tourette’s
Maybe because playing music instruments requires full focus and train your hand to do specific things.
This is just imo tho. I never look it up.
The irony, I served a guy with Tourette's today at a coffee shop. The other staff just though he was being a jerk, but I could tell how hard he was trying....how very sad

This young man is very handsome. I hate that he is dealing with this but I dont understand why he doesn't have friends. The movements wouldn't bother me a bit! I find it harder for the people who shout things out, that to me would be very hard to live with. This young man is cute, plays guitar and is going to school to become an engineer. He should have no problem with making friends or finding a relationship! 20 years ago I would have tried to date him, he scores big points just being a musician 😉😉 Ladies these are the types of men you need to go for not some of the ones these younger girls are picking these days. This must really suck but this definitely is not 'The most extreme case of Tourettes''. There was a girl in Australia that couldn't even live at home and had to live in a supported living facility because she was so violent to others and herself.
I've seen the video before. You're right
@@alaurahwillow155 I agree. That girl slapped her mom for gods sake
