I guarantee you, the only reason movie 14 exists is because Universal wanted to cash in the inevitable dinosaur nostalgia craze they themselves manufactured via Jurassic World. And much like Jurassic World, they didn't really give a shit when making this one.

Which makes me surprised that we haven't seen an attempt at a 15th movie with Dominion and the popularity of Prehistoric Planet
@@TRNatalie48 probably something to do with the fact that the 14th one didn't sell as well as they thought. I don't know if that's the case, but it feels like it.
Land Before Time: Journey of the Brave is the only dvd I've ever owned that I felt compelled to break after viewing. No film since has ever made me feel robbed to have spent money on it.

@@jeremiahwalker3795 Part of it was the terrible performances by Grandpa Longneck and Cera's Dad's voice actors, but the main reason was something I noticed a little way in: There's nothing that 'Wild Arms' does in the story that Shorty from the 10th movie couldn't have done and made more sense/had more emotional weight doing. It would've made more sense if Bron had gotten separated off going back to save his adopted son rather than a random dinosaur they threw in for 'look we made feathered dinosaurs' brownie points.
I said this many times, but I really want a new film series or show about prehistoric animals with updated stylized character designs. years have passed since we got something like Land Before Time or Ice Age, so I want something for the newer generation to feel that same magic.
I’m pretty sure the Sharp-Teeth were supposed to be Baryonyx since they have the very usual Baryonyx look for media
For me, the first six entries are the true classic Land Before Time films.
They had the classic animation style, each movie had new characters, unique plots, and there were always different sharpteeth to run from. Even a shark that one time.
Land Before Time: Giving us chonky, lipped tyrannosaurs since 1988
That was actually the norm for tyrannosaur depictions prior to Jurassic Park and the Dinosaur Renaissance.

The raptors in the third movie had three fingers, but every raptor in following movies has two. Even the goddamn spinosaurus has two fingers!!!
I know it’s a small detail but paleo nerds like me notice that stuff and it bothers me.
I'm not entirely sure. As far as I know the original reason why for example the characters in the smurfs or simpsons have four fingers is because it'd cost more time, and back in the days also colour and was apparently harder to animate and draw without it looking overly weird. So I imagine it might be in order to cut time on making one-off characters with comparatively little screentime
I suspect someone took the herbivores calling all the different carnivores "sharptooth" too literally, and decided it'd be easy visual shorthand for the kids to tell what animals those were. Yknow, cause the massive maw of teeth and overly-realistic proportions didnt somehow.
I just feel bad for Land Before Time
It started on a high and ended not with a bang but a puff of prehistoric dust
Its a tragedy
Land Before Time was a fun series I enjoyed as a kid
And it became...just dull
I think Universal knew it too. Despite Jurassic World bringing back a dinosaur resurgence they didn't think to ride it with Land Before Time beyond 1 new sequel
If the rumours about them wanting to do a new Land Before Time with an older crew are true I'd welcome it

I think one of the most prominent and likely reasons why the "Land Before Time" series had a hiatus after number 13 was because the direct-to-video/DVD sequel fad had fizzled out due to what happened at Disney in around 2006-07. That was when Disney, then under the recently-appointed CEO Bob Iger, purchased Pixar Animation Studios and appointed Pixar co-founder Ed Catmull and pretty big man in Pixar John Lasseter to big positions in Disney animation, and not just Pixar. Ed Catmull became Walt Disney Animation Studios' new president, while Lasseter was appointed as Pixar and WDAS' Chief Creative Officer, and one of the first things that John Lasseter did when he took that position was to put all Disney direct-to-home-media spinoffs and sequels that weren't already in production to a stop. This resulted in "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning" being the final direct-to-home-media sequel (it's actually a prequel, though), released about nine months after "The Wisdom of Friends", on August 26th, 2008. And speaking of "Ariel's Beginning", Kenneth Mars also ducked out of reprising his role as King Triton for that film due to him being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, so he was replaced by Jim Cummings.

Chomper and Ruby do a lot more in the TV series, which is actually pretty good overall.

right and now we have people more concerned over which fictional character is more queer because of that 'be yourself message'. Society really messed up on that message.
The movies in The Land Before Time can be really hit or miss
I like that you called out the fact that the charaters never age, despite time canonlly passing. You didn't watch the T.V. show yet, but we have now had three winters pass, (or three cold times). The first in movie 8, the second in the show, and 14 starts in spring, after another cold time. Uncle Ptrano is two years away from being aloud back in the valley.
Yup. I noticed it too. Apparently there are some supranatural power in Great Valley that make any animals aged several time much slowly than it should be. This force too that possibly attracting non earth being to visited the place like a pair rainbow faces dinosaurs that appear in Stone of Cold fire movie

I remember watching all of these on netflix as a child, except for wisdom of friends because it wasn't on netflix for some reason. The great migration has to be my favorite since it was the first one I saw, but to be fair it's been so long that I've honestly don't remember how much I liked them.
It's kind of awkward in hindsight that they seemingly based Guido's voice on Woody Allen.
Also, Wild Arms in the 14th movie reminds me of Sid the sloth from Ice Age. He’s even a Nothronychus, which means “sloth claw”
Nothrorychus itself basically is dinosaurian ground sloth (also for the rest of therizinosaurs family)

The tv series is way better than the last few movies.
It actually (kinda) explains Ruby and Chomper. Plus, most of the movies have sequel episodes. There are also some 15/10 gem episodes that are amazing. There are a few stinkers, tho, but i think the majority are great. You should watch them just to see what they tried.

The issue with movies 11-13 is that they break up the overarching theme of the original movie into smaller movie. And they don't even do it that well. They're made for kids who just see the brand name.
11 - Don't Judge others by size
12 - Don't stick to the status quo, be yourself
13 - Don't judge others by looks
These were all covered incredibly well in the original movie, and covered all at once, rather than these lobotomy installments that destroy all of the prior development of characters and themes
will you watch and review the TV show? I actually remember quite enjoying it back in the day.
Review the whole Land Before Time tv series sometime. There's only 26 episodes, each 22 minutes long, and I think they might be free on UA-cam. It wouldn't be that hard.

Probably should have went with the TV version of this clip (27:56) as it would have saved a lot more on time and it would have fit with your complaints better.
Are used to have great day of the Flyers on DVD I got rid of it. It was garbage honestly land before. Time should’ve ended in the 10th movie because the others pass through 10 or garbage.

The feathers and the Proceratosaurid crest really give it away.
Even tho this wasn’t like a documentary this was my favorite series of dinosaur out of all times

I just randomly started binging on my childhood movies and stumbled upon your video on UA-cam and you did a very good job. I gotta say I watched them all very good and well I agree with you and everything it’s almost been 10 years since this last movie released. I feel like they should have the next one if they decide to make one a little, maybe more gory sorta and more like adult friendly, and have them age up not having these stupid mistakes that they constantly keep doing every single time

1. The Land Before Time: 8/10 - That one "taar monster" scene is pure Nightmare Fuel.
2. Great Valley Adventures: 7/10 - Whatever happened to the new little ones at the end?
3. Time of the Great Giving: 5/10 - That giant meteor at the begining should've killed them.
4. Journey Through the Mist: -4/10 - Turns out you CAN cheat death! With MAGIC Night Flowers!
5. The Mysterious Island: 8/10 - Chomper's back, and tries not to eat his friends.
6. Seceret of Saurus Rock: 5/10 - Whatever happened to the twins after this movie?
7. Stone of Cold Fire: 9/10 - Pterano's the best character in the entire franchise!
8. The Big Freeze: 3/10 - Appearantly, screaming really loud solves all your problems.
9. Journey to Big Water: 4/10 - That random earthquake at the begining is the real villain.
10. The Great Longneck Migration: 9/10 - Missed oppertunity to have Ellie make a reappearance.
11. Invasion of the Tinysauruses: -3/10 - "She's your new mom, Cera! Deal with it!"
12. Great Day of the Flyers: -5/10 - Watch Guido sleepwalking to his doom! Reapeat for 10 minutes.
13. Wisdom of Friends: 0/10 - (Fart noises)
14. Journey of the Brave: -1/10 - "My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined."

I owned all of them apart from the last one as I was born in 2000. These movies alomg woth Studio Gibli, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings were my childhood movies(along others)

I feel so bad for Sara... she was used as a free babysitter by her abusive and mean step mother while being treated like trash and pushed to the side like she has no more use in her family.... I wish Sara would of had her moment to speak up about how she truly felt and how unfair it is to toss her to the side for the baby. It would make a great message for parents that just because a new baby is born doesn't mean you should put your older kids on the back burner or use them as an extra set of parents

13, man fuck 13, some bad direct to video sequels can give fun memories forever like Land before time 4 or Secret of NIMH 2 or An American Tail Mystery of the night monster but Wisdom of friends doesn't

The mane lesson was about the janges it even said that in the movie in both the intro and the ending like conclusion at the end I gess that being your self lesson is the result of the film makers wanting more than one lesson in there I gess

I'll admit as a kid watching all of these movies and the series. I kind of always wished that for the final movie we'd get a flash forward into the future and see them all grown up and I always thought that would be a great wat to end it.

i remember how excited i was for journey of the brave to release since it was a new land before movie in years man i truly hope universal is making a reboot special if they keep the animation the same in each movie i like the tv series they did they got some of the characters from the movie to return like ali wich look like she have a crush on littlefoot and doc with an mate for some reason sadly the series dont explain on why chomber live in the great valley

Yeah, honestly, I’ve seen way too many of those people who think they’re perfect the way they are on Twitter, and they keep using autism as an excuse. And every time I call them out on it, they keep labelling me ableist, even though I myself as autistic, to which they say I have internalised ableism.
Wow, we've finally made it to the end. Have to say, wow how the series began on such a high note and how it ended at a low point to say the least. Honestly, I definitely have some favorites but the quality definitely dropped after 10 I have to say. I will say I need to give the whole series a rewatch but it's good to know what's awaiting for me. I will say 12,13 and 14 didn't look promising and seeing your input Red Raptor, I have to agree with your input. Shame that this is where the series I guess ends. The characters have not aged and the charm and quality has gone extinct for lack of a better term with this series. Also, just a nitpick with 14, not a fan of hearing Rexy's sounds outside of Jurassic Park. It may still be Universal, but Carnotaurus alone had better sounds by Disney than what we got in Journey of the Brave. Overall, I can't rank the final installment as apart from a few clips, I haven't seen the film. But my ranking I'd have to say for now would be:
1.) The Great Longneck Migration
2.) Secret of Saurus Rock
3.) The Land Before Time
4.) The Great Valley Adventure
5.) The Mysterious Island
6.) The Time of the Great Giving
7.) The Stone of Cold Fire

1. I kinda understand how you ranked Wisdom of Friends as Garbage.
2. I think Journey of The Brave kinda sounds like a clone of Pooh’s Grand Adventure. Like there’s some similar elements it had.
And 3. Shame on you for saying “The Great Day of The Flyers” is Terrible! It’s still my favorite TLBT Film from my childhood.
