- The Land Before Time has been a childhood staple for many! I have lots of fond memories with this series so let's go back and see how they hold up. In Part 3, I discuss Journey to Big Water, The Great Longneck Migration, and Invasion of the Tinysauruses. #dinosaurs #thelandbeforetime #paleontology

I always guessed Cera's mother and siblings were eaten, and that's why Topps is so overprotective. He probably witnessed it; I wouldn't want to talk about that, either.
We do see his mate for a few seconds at the beginning of the first movie. Quite likely she and Cera's siblings perished during the great earthshake
If you ask me, I think Petrie's Uncle Pterano from Stone of Cold Fire happened to them. That would explain why, out of all the adults, Topps was the most hostile towards him as it felt like he was holding a grudge.
@@WingedFish66 I also kind of believe that Cera's mother and most of her siblings perished in some way. However then again, the appearance of Dinah and Dana in the 6th movie who are Cera's niece and nephew (meaning that they're the offspring of one of her siblings) could allude to the idea that either only one of her siblings somehow managed to survive to the point of growing to adulthood and being able to produce offspring, or Cera's mother and siblings are alive, but something happened that resulted in her and her father separating from each other.
@@WingedFish66 I checked, and you can see both of Cera's parents safe on the other side of the chasm after the fight with the sharptooth, so at least the mother didn't die there. Can't see any of the sibs, though. So my theory is at least likely partly wrong. XD
@@Henry-rt6jz Oh, that's a really good point!
The 10th film makes me wonder if it was supposed to be the finale, as compared to the others, it has more tie ins with the first film.
It certainly felt like a finale, and the most direct sequel to the first film.
Btw the tiny sauropods are actually based on Mussaurus, back when there were no known adult Mussaurus. It's even named "mouse lizard" in reference to how small the original juvenile fossil was.
Nowadays, we know that the small Mussaurus fossil was a juvenile, and that the adults are actually 2 tons.
By sauropod standards, that’s still pretty small.
I can't believe something that small could weigh so much, damn.
There's also dwarf sauropods such as Magyarosaurus and Europasaurus which were even smaller both reaching around 1 ton maximum. The primitive Ohmdenosaurus only reached 10-13 ft long. Also, just this year, a specimen previously thought to be a juvenile Massospondylus turned out to be an adult specimen of a completely new and unnamed prosauropod that would have weighed a mere 165lbs. That is less than many adult humans.
It could be that Mr Threehorn's supposed to be the breeding bull of the triceratops herd? I mean they are not people.
Would've been cool if the Invasion of the Tinysauruses was more like Gulliver's Travels but with dinosaurs. Maybe Littlefoot and his friends get stuck on an island full of tiny dinosaurs that need protection from relatively tiny sharpteeth. It's a better concept because it's both more plausible, since island dwarfism is a real natural phenomenon, and it could allow for a great moral.
Or worse, the largest predatory flyer of all.
@@ladymacbethofmtensk896 That would've been really cool to see, Littlefoot and his friends fighting a Hatzegopteryx.
@@jacobcox4565 Yes, but it would have been a stretch for the writers to get Littlefoot and his friends to Hateg Island and back.
@@ladymacbethofmtensk896 Doesn't even need to be Hateg Island, since Hatzegopteryx could fly for miles and probably visit any island.
The fact that I remember watching Invasion of the Tinysauruses but can't remember almost all of it except a few scenes really says alot about the movie.
LBT9, one of the WORST lines in it, imo is when Littlefoot is complaining to his grandparents about being bored. He snaps "I wish my mom had given me a brother!"
What makes this the worst line imo is that if you watch the scene where he hatches in the first movie, around his nest by his moms tail, you can see the destroyed remains of the rest of his clutch... He was their special guy because he survived. She tried to give him siblings...
I know its just childish frustration, but if you look back, it just makes the scene that much more frustrating and heart-wrenching
Honestly I would've loved adding depth on Mr Threehorn's characterization, I think the fandom has always assumed and the series alluded to Cera's siblings and mother not making it on the journey to the Great Valley, we definitely only see her father on his own in the first movie's ending.
Even though I've never seen films 9 through 14 (not counting reviews), I'm somewhat curious to check out "The Great Longneck Migration." Partly because I'd like to see how they handled the debut of Littlefoot's dad, and since I like the idea of sauropods performing some kind of ritual, like something out of a legend.
“The Great Longneck Migration” is the only one i like past “The Stone of Cold Fire”, i wasn’t a big fan of “The Big Freeze” except for a couple of scenes with the gang playing in the snow. Longneck Migration not only showcased Littlefoots Dad, but also his potential brother! can’t remember his name, Ret maybe? and also the whole lore around solar eclipses being the sun falling out of the sky and all the longnecks need to stretch their long necks (genuinely still enjoy that pun/play on words) to keep the sun/great circle in the sky
Is no one gonna talk about about how the Tinysauruses have 4 nostrils???
I just noticed that. XD
I’m never gonna unsee that
My headcanon is that Cera's mother and siblings went with Pterano when he split off from the rest of the herd in that flashback in Stone of Cold Fire.
14:38 you are looking at the crown of the habsburg realm
Hilarious, poor spanish king honestly
The land of tiny sauropods, Hateg Island, would much later form part of Transylvania, which would be part of the Kingdom of Hungary, which would be part of the Habsburg Empire.
Awesome! I've been waiting for this part. The Great Longneck Migration is my personal favorite of the series thanks to my love for Sauropods and seeing Littlefoot meet his dad was definitely a plus. And the climax against the Daspletosaurus is such a great sequence. Pat protecting the kids despite his handicap of his burnt food was a great start then Bron chimes in, and sure enough the Daspletosaurus gets backup as well. Eventually, Grandpa and Grandma Longneck and the kids help Bron and Pat and it was good usage of all the important characters. Thank you for doing these reviews Red Raptor. Keep up your awesome content, stay safe and have a great day.
How can you tell they are Daspletosaurus ?
Every tyrannosaurid species (if there really several species) exactly look the same.
For each movies, you could said to others that they are all T-rex everytime that people would believed you without putting your words into question.
It's like the Raptors.
At this point, they could all be Velociraptor or Utahraptor so there barely differences between each of them in each movies.
Things aren't help by the fact that the species names of any dinosaurs or prehistoric animals in this franchise aren't mentionned.
Replaced by a name refering to the features of the species. (Sauropods are all called Longneck but most are obviousely different species).
The franchise, for carnivores, often just exactly use the same design for every general related species.
And its only when we have afar and different enough species that they get another design.
Like Spinosaurus, Baryonyx, Yutyrannus or Carnotaurus.
@@dudotolivier6363 It says so in the credits ya windbag
Littlefoot's dad is the vampire from Lost Boys? dang, pretty cool
Honestly I liked Tinysauruses. I watched it as a kid a lot with a few other Land Before Time movies and I really liked and watched it time and again even into my early teens before me and my family just stopped using DVD players. It wasn’t anything grand or big it was just a nice casual movie for me to hop into that’s in my favourite series of movies
Red Raptor Writes: Tiny sauropods don't exist.
Magyarosaurus and Paludititan: Am I a joke to you?
They were still the same size as a human
Always liked the Great Longneck migration, felt almost like a climactic ending to the series ,had a deep plot, and some intense scenes/soundtrack.
6:40 That clip from Frozen 3 looks promising
I think the earth quake mentioned that separated Little foots dad from his family is the same one from the first movie that the mother died in. That's not contrived, it's continuity.
The only line in Longneck one when Littlefoot meets his dad, I really liked that one a lot. But the funniest thing is hearing Cera says I don't believe it Longnecks saved the world and she says the line. this is gonna kill my dad. I laughed super hard at that.
that moment was genuinely one of -the funniest- moments in the entire series!
I love how they shown that at first Littlefoot was mad towards his father because he left him but then he warms up when Bron tells him this story. Also Shorty is so well written!
And about 11 movie I also really like how they wrote Cera's and Tria's relation.
Well done!
I always thought longknecks in 10 were extremely arrogant. It bothered me so much that everyone thought they saved the sky from falling down and it was never corrected.
I have nostalgia for all of these except for 14, which I have never seen.
Personally I don't have an issue with 4, it's not great, but I kind of liked the cave.
Funny that this came out around the same time Saberspark did his own Land Before Time retrospective. I’m also thrilled to finally see an EDP meme on this channel, even though he’s a pedophile.
I've always wanted to add his memes but have been hesitant. With a disclaimer, I think I can get the memage without promoting pedophilia
@@redraptorwrites6778 yes you can
Wow. You released this the same day that the Indigo disk dlc for Pokemon SV came out!
Red Raptor, have you been working on the script on any Dino docs for the future like monsters we met or last day of the dinosaurs or do dinos vs mammals?
Bet Little Foots’s father was away saving the world from a evil sharp tooth with a eyepatch
Watch out for the wisdom of friends
7:11 bruh this came straight outta nowhere I wasn't prepared 💀
The smallest known sauropod was about the height of a grown human. It was native to Hungary.
Tria looks fine to me, I think you're just overreacting. I mean Cera is bright YELLOW, yet you don't say anything about her coloring. As for me, I'd rather watch 4 over 11 ANY day!
Hello
13:52 could these possibly be comically small magyarosaurus??? Like how they made the beipiaosaurus extremely unrecognizable in the wisdom of friends?
They're supposed to be Mussaurus
omg those are some microscopic mussaurus then
or hatchlings
Do you have plans to review the LBT TV series as well? Would love to hear your thoughts on it
As a kid i had tocchoose between journey to big water and spongebob the movie
I am glad i choose the later
Alright now hear me out………………….that pink triceratops in 11 was making me feel different when I was four
Honestly the more I look at Tinysauruses the more I think that instead of Tiny Long Necks they could’ve used mammals from that time, small and insignificant creatures that the dinosaurs wouldn’t usually notice. It could’ve been that the mammals were the original residents of the Great Valley and were scared of the dinosaurs suddenly arriving in their land and so they run and hide away from them fearing what these massive creatures would do to them if they found them around here. It would make more sense and make their decision to stay hidden make sense and would fit the message of the film of not judging people before you get to know them
I miss the guy i was before i heard trice-sloppy
I've noticed a trend throughout these movies where the characters are named after their scientific names: Cera the TriCERAtops, Strut the STRUThiomimus, Hyp the HYPsilophodon, Doc the DiploDOCus, Petrie's uncle Pterano the PTERANOdon, Rinkus the Rhamphorhynchus and Sierra the Cearadactylus, Littlefoot's father Bron (BRONtosaurus), and even Guido the Microraptor GUI.
I'm also kind of surprised you didn't make a "Luke, I am your father" joke about Littlefoot and Bron.
Problem is, Littlefoot, Grandpa Longneck, Grandma Longneck, Littlefoot's Mother, Ali, Ali's Mother, Old One, Pat and Rhett are all Apatosaurus, not Brontosaurus, yet they introduced two named Apatosaurus in Land Before Time X, one named by his actual scientific dinosaur name in Pat and the other not in Bron, then again Pat is stated to on the way back to become a resident of the Great Valley but never shows up again so not that good for him.
Apatosaurus keeps on being a part of sub kind of Brontosaurus, or it's own thing when Brontosaurus is stated to be a no longer real kind for DECADES so Pat must had his concept and character made at a point Apatosaurus is the latter so it's own thing and Bron the former so a sub kind to Brontosaurus.
Finally you forgot Ichy the Ichthyornis and Archie the Archelon from Land Before Time IV, and Mo the Ophthalmosaurus from Land Before Time IX.
@@redmageknight3908 yeah I didn’t list all of the examples
I mean, who knows trea is a mutant
I don't know if anyone already pointed this out, but the Tinysauruses have 4 nostrils...
I will admit, Great Longneck Migration is a great installment, but I have to say that it was a bit of a missed opportunity. Yes we got to see Littlefoot's father, but where was Ali and her herd from Journey Through the Mists or Doc from Secret of Saurus Rock? This movie seemed like the perfect opportunity to bring them back. I can understand the mother longneck from Journey to Big Water since her babies just barely hatched, but why didn't they bring back Ali, her herd, and Doc?
Am I the only one that wants a Titanoboa to appear in this dino franchise, and be called a slippery sharp tooth?
Maybe Sanajeh or Madtsoia, which lived alongside Late Cretaceous dinosaurs.
I name Prehistoric snakes in my Land Before Time fanfics Slithering Biter so not far from what you call them 😂
the legend is back
About tiny sauropods, you never heard of Hateg Island, have you?
Bron just left to get some bread
There should be redeeming qualities about movie 11
Mf did NOT just say "Topsy Sloppy"
I will pray for you Mr. Raptor. You still have a ways to go. 🙏👐🙌🤲 ⛪️🛐✝️☦️🔝
@7:30 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣God Damn!!
Try to review WATERSHIP DOWN and THE PLAGUE DOGS TOO PLEASE????
18:40 ok in Sara's defense she was tossed to the side and ignored unless it was to be a convienent babysitter for her baby sibling... Then even worse she's blamed for not doing a better job when SHE never ASKED to watch over a vulnerable infant while the actual adults do nothing but make googoo eyes at each other... She went from being adored by her father to ignored and neglected all cause her dad fell in love with his side piece and had a kid with her... She has all the right to resent them and want things back the way they were
man of all tlbt movies my top tree would be the original land before time 4 and 10 i would give my left arm to see the franchise back we dont have any dinosars media for kids i feel like these movies are reason i love dinosaurs
12:13 Can we stop acting like Shark Tale wasn’t a good movie?
Hey man look i know the PK jpog series is closed but we now have spinosaurus in the game
Just wait a day lol
@@redraptorwrites6778 I can wait
I’ve always liked movies 10 and 11
7:08 Ray?
Who saw that Disney and Pixar are remaking The Land Before Time?
i asume you mean that 3d poster i am guessing that not true since universails are still the owners of the franchise
@@kineuhansen8629 if the poster you’re talking about is the one that looks ai generated then yes
i love to see them back though@@tobiasedwards2643
It's not happening, the Land Before Time franchise is owned by Universal Studios, and one of his creator in the first movie is Don Bluth, a FORMER employee at Disney, they would have to give money to one of their competitors in animated movies to gain the rights to this franchise.
Why does little foot sound like he has a stuffy nose in 11
Is the 4th part out already?
If you didn't like the fourth movie, you'll love the thirteenth movie more than the seventh movie
Let’s all pray and hope that 2025 Pixar movie won’t happen
kinda surprised that you didn't mention the tinysauruses having 2 pairs of nostrils
I never noticed that and now I can't unsee it!
Thanks, I hate it.
The fact that two of the three movies I most distinctly remember watching are the two lowest on the list (so far) is honestly ironic. Or disappointing, or whatever you wanna call it
Awesome
I honestly found 10 boring, but I don't have a way to rewatch it. You have your opinion.
My condolences when you get to 13.
I actually really like Tria as her character and her personality, and I wish a similar thing but with a different plot happened to Mama Flyer because unlike Cera's Mother we have NOTHING in terms of Papa Flyer.
I'm wondering if you're going to do the TV series, as it is a canon part of the Land Before Time franchise.
Me: Oh look, you're already at Land Before Time XI
Land Before Time XIII : 'Plays The Piano Before Cynthia'
Me: ... Why do I hear boss music?
Also, anyone but me is frustrated about Littlefoot's Mother new design in the 10th movie? I know we didn't see the scene in this review, but for those who knows, or doesn't, as Bron explained to Littlefoot the reasonig of why he wasn't there we see a flashback occured when we see Bron and Littlefoot's Mother side by side with Littlefoot's Mother having scale colors close to Grandpa Longneck and Grandma Longneck's one, and while yes it is genetically more probable of this to occur you stumble into a problem, everyone that watched the first movie knows that she's brownish pink, which makes it more probable do to genetics that Littlefoot's colors got the way they are which are the same as Bron being brown with a tan underbelly
Honestly, land before times 10 would’ve been the final story. Anything past 10 is garbage
But Ali is pink too
Leoperradon are you shor it isn’t a mossasaurus
20:23
I honestly don’t find movie 11 vile
Did you like Frozen 1

You got the release dates all wrong for these movies, and you have to think Cera siblings still had to have survived if she had nieces in land before time 6

Apparently they're in the background when we see the shot of the crater being the place they went when Littlefoot, Grandpa Longneck, Grandma Longneck and Sue arrived, well, that's what stated anyway.
YES! When I was young I really wanted Ali to return
