  • In this video we completely finish the shop! First, we build some simple DIY storage solutions like a tire rack, tub rack, and metal rack. Then, we install new BendPak lifts and reorganize the rest of the shop!

Hey Caleb I install lifts for a living, if I was inspecting those lifts they would immediately fail because of the anchoring. I'm not as familiar with bendpak but every 2 post I've installed comes with 5-1/2 anchors which looks to be what these did come with. Most lifts want minimum 4-1/4 inches of 3000psi concrete with minimum 3-1/4 anchor embedment, as well as staying around 3-1/2 inches from cracks, seams in the floor, relief cuts, edges of the concrete, old anchors etc. which you can't see some of those issues with the epoxy already on the floor. Those anchors are pulled up way too far so either you don't have enough concrete or the concrete there is low psi or cracked/weak. I would guess you have maybe 1-2 inches of embedment on some anchors especially the ones near the drain, also since you cut off the extra length of the anchor that would also be an immediate fail due to that alone. With the little amount of room to move the lifts around in your shop I would seriously recommend you to remove the lifts and get new concrete pads poured. I do not want to see you get hurt or killed from those lifts failing please take my recommendation for your safety

I install, maintain and do insurance inspections on garage equipment in the UK and funnily enough used to fit Bendpak ramps and this 100% my thoughts. The bolts pulling up is extremely concerning. The cutting of the bolts is an instant condemn. Please please please get some concrete pads. I don't know if the specs in the US is different but 1m squared and 500mm deep is what we would recommend, but it will also say in the manual minimum concrete specs. It may seem overkill and a ballache but it's better than a lift falling. I've seen it happen and it isnt pretty.
I see a lot of these videos and the fact Bendpak don't send professional fitters out when they ship the lifts is appalling.

Fire sprinklers are part of the entire building and is the landlord’s (or building owner’s) responsibility. And depending on the age of the building and size, they probably weren’t required when the building was built.

Ain't knocking where you've come from, or anything You've accomplished. I've watched you grow for years. Back when you lifter your first Miata. I've never understood why you don't just buy your own place. I get there can be a billion reason, but in all honesty, you are adding value to someone else's equity. Either way, still gonna watch. Would love to see you build a Datsun, and bring back Dad's roadster... Keep the videos coming! ❤

It's probably got to do with the income he has not being stable enough for him to pay mortgage, and with companies making it increasingly impossible to buy real estate unless you're with the government, or earning 7 figures a year at the bare minimum, it's also hard to get a place of your own when you're younger.

I have my own apartment and two cars myself (nothing fancy tho just a normal apt, a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Subaru Outback, both from the early 00s) and yeah I did get all this before the p*nd*mic (2018) but even back then it wasn't too hard to rack up abit and afford a home (I was 23 working 2 jobs-)

    • @hapgil141
      @hapgil141 2 місяці тому +23

@@danielhughes9556 Wouldn't necessarily think it did much to LL equity, most of the equipment/ lighting can be taken down moved to a new location since they are owned/ installed by Caleb, the biggest expenses that are more permanent would be floor finish and walls/ paint. Also it builds rapport with landlord, which in turn may help him with rental expenses. Who knows, in the future if/ when landlord decides to sell the property, Caleb may have the opportunity to bid on it. Either way loving the content.

What I admire most about you is your ability to just make whatever it is that you want or need by figuring it out and fabricating it yourself. Whether it was learning how to bend and cut metal/weld for your desired modifications and doing the same with the interior of the adventurer bus. The range in which you’re able to create things physically now is genuinely impressive

You know what the coolest but probably least practical thing would be? To have a vehicle turntable in between the beams where the drift truck is parked. Just have one project parked on it, slowly rotating all day. A far more practical and useful idea, especially if you started building motorcycles/go-kart/buggy-sized projects would be 2-3 bike lift tables or jumbo fabrication benches.

Maybe a final touch idea but im a bricklayer from england was thinking about those brick steps, should rake out the mortar to a 2 inch depth and repoint it with a strong nhl 5 lime mortar mix, could use cement but with it being walked on would probably crack over time.
Lime will come up quite white as well would match the walls.
Use like a 1 nhl 5 to 1 yellow sand to 1 brown sand mix for the right colour and strength.
Ik its a random one but would be interesting to see.

Such a great space you have there now, it's ever improving. Have you ever considered making use of those beams and having a small loft space?

Brother man, move the cabinet that's covering the circuit breaker box. You absolutely MUST keep those breakers accessible.

I love the improvements, i do have one question tho, why not use the existing framework, add on to that, and make a 2nd level in your place where u can sit and watch down from?

That structure isn’t designed or sized for the loading of a 2nd floor. And depending on the building occupancy, it may not be allowed by building codes anyway.

Nice improvements! The lift location is going to be so much better too, don't need to move stuff around to get to them anymore and they're much safer. Curious though, how do those work as far as concrete footings, do they require any consideration for that or is a standard slab thickness enough?

Baldium! More fire extinguishers please! I would hate to see this place get eclipsed with how much wood is being used. Stay safe buddy and be careful!

u might want to add a cross brace to that tote storage rack or attach it to the wall. as when u get a bunch of weight it will just lean and fall left or right sense u have no strength to the uprights.

Bro you should build a little loft area on top of those beams.
