MCA was simply one of the most natural rappers in history, his cadence was locked in on any beat he was given. And he was a beautiful compassionate human who spread positivity throughout his life. RIP
Beastie Boys are Mike D(drums), Adrock (guitar) and MCA (bass). 3 members. They have had a couple DJs over the course of their career, most notably Mixmaster Mike (1997-2012) and DJ Hurricane (1986 - 1997), Rick Rubin deejayed as DJ Double R from 1983-85. They also use session players Money Mark on organ, and Fredo Ortiz/Eric Bobo on percussion and AWOL played drums on the hardcore material whilst Mike D sang. On their final album Beastie Boys didnt use any samples and played all the music and chopped it up and sampled themselves. But their greatest album is 1989's "Paul's Boutique", 99% samples and its a masterpiece, you should check out "Hey Ladies" or "Shake Your Rump" to start.
The music you are hearing in the background is a sample. It's Jimmy Smith "Root Down (And Get It)" History is that MCA loved this record so much and DETERMINED to rap over it. Here is the product-- GENIUS.
What i love about The Beastie Boys is how they always stuck to the natural roots of Hip Hop, if only more youngins did they diggin, and im born in 91 and will always be a student of hip hop
As a freshman in college, people would basically take turns blasting their favorite tracks from Paul's Boutique into the quad at Porter College UCSC. I've got several copies on vinyl including the huge fold out version with the whole intersection inside.
3 guys who play the instruments, make the beats and write the rhymes. They basically do everything from the music to making the videos. MCA bass rough voice, AdRock guitar real nasal voice, Mike D drums middle voice.
Love the reaction! You couldn’t have said it any better, than when you said, “What a time to be alive”! I grew up in this era, and what a time it was! But,it saddens me to think about how things have changed so drastically, in such a short amount of time… But hey, you can always throw on the Beastie Boys, and travel back in time, if only for a while…
I was in high school when the came out. It was fun! Their Glasgow concert is flawless! nonstop energy. Nobody can rock a whole show like them! (Although I haven't seen The Roots in concert. They could also!)
This is a great Beasties song. I was in college in the early 90s and I actually did see them in concert, I think in 92, and they were awesome. Another band that came out around then and is musically amazing is Tool. You should check them out if you never have. Start with The Pot and see what you think.😊
@3:10 This is censored. “Oh my god that’s the funky sht.” (Although ‘grab my dyk’ is not censored ?). There’s about 4 timesin this where they scratched the track over swear words or mentions of drugs or guns or disrespecting women. They matured and went back and censored themselves. Also helps with radio play.
gonna subscribe cuz ur just getting into my dudes here- i’m assuming u did pass the mic but if not.. pop your ballon and puttin shame in your game or three the hard way are some of their more underrated cuts that not enough reactors listen to- if you can get to any of them then i'ma tell anyone i know to sub
MCA-bass Ad Rock-guitar Mike D-drums They make their own beats/music. Also play funk, jazz, metal, pink, acid, etc. Additional keyboard and dj and percussion members come and go. Mike D and Ad Rock do sound similar.
They also used a ton of sample, and Adrock is a beast (pun intented) with sample grooves. This song is mostly sampled from Jimmy Smith's Root Down (And Get It).
Fucking Beasties were admittedly a joke party white boy rap band when they came out. They established themselves as true pioneers by learning instruments and becoming a funk/rap band force. Good on them.
Cool channel. First watch out the algo ... You got yourself a sub nice work! This is throwback for a dude my age, but Root Down is still in the regular rotation for me. That said, you need to get the uncensored version going
The Beasties were the masters at "flipping" rhymes, them and Run DMC. They were on the same record label and toured together and it shows. They never changed their style and they didn't have to. They were pure Hip Hop until the end. Rest In Peace to MCA.
There’s no band on this track at all, the music is from Root Down And Get It by Jimmy Smith from around 1970… it’s just a sample..but they do play live instruments too, not on this song
Yes, Jimmy Smith was joined by a couple players from The Crusaders in his early 1970’s L.A. Years. This song is all samples, but in later tours the Beasties would play the original Root Down track live as a band, with Money Mark killing it on the organ. One of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.
MCA's voice is one of the greatest in hip hop history
May he rest in peace. MCA will never be forgotten.
MCA was simply one of the most natural rappers in history, his cadence was locked in on any beat he was given. And he was a beautiful compassionate human who spread positivity throughout his life. RIP
He was absolutely one of the very best in the game! Rest in Peace indeed MCA! You are missed...

Right on Paul! 🙏🙏
Cypress Hill then came along and snatched Eric Bobo on congas/bongos/percussion :)
You can see him here 3:39

They were there near the beginning. More people NEED to understand that. Originators not pretenders.
The Beastie Boys are PIONEERS in Hip Hop. There will never be another group like them.
They so high on the tree, they have children named LL Cool J and Public Enemy.
@@E-d1d3 LL even said that if it weren't for the Beasties playing Rick Rubin his demo tape that he'd have never gotten his break at 15.
This song is a lesson in the roots of Rap (aka, NYC scene). Looking up the references is like a self-taught "Rap Anthropology 101" class.
*Paul's Boutique* carved their name on the top of Mount of da Legendary Rap Albums ...
For 1989, nothing sounded like that...simply a masterpiece...
As a freshman in college, people would basically take turns blasting their favorite tracks from Paul's Boutique into the quad at Porter College UCSC. I've got several copies on vinyl including the huge fold out version with the whole intersection inside.

Right on for this Anthony! 🙌🙌
The drummer they had as a punk band, Kate Schallenbach, went and made the band Lucious Jackson
We all love all three Boys equally but MCA is our favorite.
I can feel that bass line in my throat.
Great reaction! Ty
" the vibes are immaculate , what a time to be alive " - yup
Legends,ultra talented🔊👌🏼
The more you listen to the Beasties, you'll pick up on the individual vocal nuances of the members. 🙃
DrVonChilla is 60 years old now.....and he declares BEASTIE BOYS FOREVER...!!!!
62 in December.
I’m right there with you.
🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥

I was a junior in high school when Fight for Your Right came out! And boy howdy! We did! Still am if I'm gonna tell the truth.
This was life pre-iPhone. Also the era of listen to albums. Was I the only one waiting for Sabotage to come on next?
The riff started playing in my head as soon as Root Down ended :D
@@lukmigindnuforhelved haha thought i was the only one
My fav BBoys track of all time including paying tribute to original Root Down BadAss Jimmy Smith (1972 live album)
these vids, make me think Ad Rock is maybe one of the greatest rappers of all time
5:41 Adam Yauch (MCA) is the gruffer voice, AdRock is "the original nasal kid" doing damage, and MikeD is the neutral voice.
I was in high school when the came out. It was fun! Their Glasgow concert is flawless! nonstop energy. Nobody can rock a whole show like them! (Although I haven't seen The Roots in concert. They could also!)
Paul's Boutique is my favorite
glad you are finding some great artists that shaped us humans! peace
Lollapalooza 94 Vancouver! They were awesome! Switched between mcing, and playing instruments. Ended with Sabatage.!
my favorite Beastie Boys song!
Adrock is the high voice, Mike D is the mid voice, MCA is the lower voice playing bass. RIP MCA
The 80s-90s B-boy Breakdance scene was such a cultural peak. So much amazing talent.
Nice reaction. Like the song, it’s 3 MCs and 1 DJ in the group. They also play the instruments on the songs.
MCA-bass. Mike D-drums.
ADRock-guitar.
Any days a good day when the Beasties are playing
R.I.P. MCA aka Adam Yauch 😢
RIP 🙏🙏
This is a great Beasties song. I was in college in the early 90s and I actually did see them in concert, I think in 92, and they were awesome.

Right on! ✍️😆
one of the coolest vids ever
It was showing them rapping and playing instruments.
Live sound!
Great reaction channel.
Ayeeeeeee QUEENS IN THE HOUSE!!!!
Beastie Boys are the greatest group of all time and not just in hip hop
You listened to the censored for airplay version, they drop a few swear words that they distorted rather than bleep.
@3:10 This is censored. “Oh my god that’s the funky sht.” (Although ‘grab my dyk’ is not censored ?). "Dick" was backscratched, it was censored.

Ad Rock-guitar
Mike D-drums
They make their own beats/music. Also play funk, jazz, metal, pink, acid, etc.

Mike D and Ad Rock do sound similar.
Right on family!! 🙌🙌😆
They also used a ton of sample, and Adrock is a beast (pun intented) with sample grooves. This song is mostly sampled from Jimmy Smith's Root Down (And Get It).
Should have been the unedited version. Pops even harder.
Fucking Beasties were admittedly a joke party white boy rap band when they came out. They established themselves as true pioneers by learning instruments and becoming a funk/rap band force. Good on them.
MCA FOREVER
Root Down (And Get It) by Jimmy Smith
Cool channel. First watch out the algo ... You got yourself a sub nice work!
This is throwback for a dude my age, but Root Down is still in the regular rotation for me.
That said, you need to get the uncensored version going
Yeah three guys but they flow as one
The Beasties were the masters at "flipping" rhymes, them and Run DMC. They were on the same record label and toured together and it shows. They never changed their style and they didn't have to. They were pure Hip Hop until the end. Rest In Peace to MCA.
This track is pure fire; Mix Master Mike is a genius
I think it was DJ Hurricane back then
This was DJ Hurricane, Mix Master Mike was a few years later.
Oof, I feel old now. 😁💜
All love Jonni! ❤️😆
R.I.P. MCA
root down, bro! :)
MCA was always the best one to me
Word. Whenever I rock to a Beastie Boys' joint, I ALWAYS do the MCA parts.
Adam Yauch, MCA
lets goo this is great
You gotta hear the unedited version. That’s why some of the words are unintelligible. They scrambled the curse words
Only 3 of them
+RetroStefRemix: This is great and all but you've got to check out Open Letter to NYC and the live version they did for MTV.
RIP MCA

Stef can yah do im gone by Nick nittoli
Added to the list! 😆😆🙌
what's the deal with the headphones on one ear and not the other? You're listening to half the music, dude.
I hope you get that you're hearing the G rated swear free version. The censorship makes the flow fall apart at a couple of points.
dude, c'mon. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beastie_Boys
