    We need to start a petition for Johnny to do an album of just acoustic solos of Smiths songs, with no singing or instruments.

    • @lorenmiller3797
      @lorenmiller3797 2 роки тому +14

      @Deco Electra That already exists. There are loads of tracks on UA-cam with him singing, and full instrumentation. It's also not about not wanting to hear singing... I don't want to hear other instruments either. I simply want to hear Johnny on guitar, playing Smiths songs and whatever else. He is a guitar God, after all. These little snippets he does are excruciating... because they just tease me, and I don't get to hear the whole song.

      @@davidgriffiths2924 Because that's how I feel about it, and apparently, from the conversations I have online, a lot of people feel that way. There is something really enjoyable about listening to him playing Smiths guitar parts without any vocals or other instruments, but these clips are much too short.

    This is pretty crazy... it's almost like a classical music approach, full blown arranged chords with underlying implied melody, with power and open voicings that don't sound the slightest bit amateurish... Masterful.

    • @conradrayner6317

      Why the fuck would it sound amateurish… he’s the best guitarist of the 80s and one of the best songwriters of the same decade. Birthed one of if not the best indie band of all time, and inspired countless others. Of course he can do all these things, he’s johnny marr. And not even johnny marr can play like johnny marr.

    • @kingcobrajfsofficial

      @@conradrayner6317 OP is simply stating that a similar song crafting approach, if left in the hands of nearly anybody else, might sound amateurish. It is a testament to Marr's prowess as a composer. Get the stick out of your ass.

      @@silvar4399 I'm a musician, the creative type
      Schools don't teach you the creativity, they teach technique(s)
      Let's put it this way; schools and theory codify what artists do, but artistic expression comes first
      I'm not saying certifications are useless or whatever, I'm just saying if you aren't an artist in the first place those kinds of things won't make you one
      It's hard to explain, that's the best I can do
      Also, it's tuned in something called open g which is common in slide guitar
      Keith Richards uses that tuning a lot, but Johnny Marr made it his own
      Great tune though

But then an acoustic from a skip with 3 strings landed on my lap and I started mucking about on it. seeing Johny one of my all time heroes use a capo set me off using one. helps me form chords with limited movement . Seeing Mr Marr thrash that acoustic , it’s inspiring. Pass me more pain killers , i need to learn cemetery gates ….

    I ponder..... I know that in 1986 when this was written and released, Johnny spent some social time with Keith Richards. Of course, their guitar styles are light years apart. However, I wonder if Johnny was inspired to explore Open G tuning for the first time and duly emerged with this intricate chord work. Keith's open G work is less intricate and leaves more space. Well, I wonder?
