Johnny Marr is a brilliant guitarist, and you played those parts amazingly! But never forget the GENIUS bass playing of Andy Rourke that brought out those riffs.
It'll never cease to amaze me the kind of stuff Marr was able to come up with, like it's honestly amazing and the dude is just an absolute beast of a guitarist in general
0:00 This Charming Man 0:49 How Soon Is Now? 1:40 What Difference Does It Make? 2:33 There Is A Light That Never Goes Out 3:36 Bigmouth Strikes Again 4:07 Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now 5:19 The Headmaster Ritual 7:13 Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before 8:12 Hand In Glove
Fantastic playing. What I loved about The Smiths is that they didn’t sound like anything else we were hearing at the time. Outside of a bit of rockabilly, it was hard to tell where Marr’s influences even came from.
Marr's influences are wide and broad it's so difficult to narrow it down. I've seen him talk a bit about The Velvet Underground recently which makes perfect sense as those opening chords to There Is A Light are very similar to There She Goes Again. He also talked a lot about T.Rex specifically Metal Guru.
Johnny wasn’t just a once in a generation guitarist, but a genuine one of a kind. The first time I heard “well, I wonder,” it stopped me dead in my tracks. I was cleaning my first apartment and my roommate had just bought the tape. I was a punk kid so the Smiths weren’t my bag…but as soon as he played that song I sat down on the couch and just knew I was listening to greatness.
Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others and That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore deserved a spot in this list! They're probably my favourites with The Headmaster Ritual But still a great list, Johnny Marr is definitely one of the greats and your playing is killer as always 🔥
Morrissey’s lyrics and persona were understandably the focal point a lot, but Marr and especially the rhythm section deserve far more credit. Listened to any Morrissey records lately? Yeah, me either. Marr is his own genre.
Really great work. Even though there's a new batch of 16 year olds discovering the Smiths every year there's a reason you never hear their songs being covered by those kids first bands.
There are many tracks and actual different guitars with different tunings on the studio version, like the Rickenbacker with nashville tuning and stuff. It's hard to get the riffs to sound close. You did a great job!
Such a perfect combination of talented individuals. As for the voice and lyricism, no one could’ve done it better than Morrissey. The guitar compositions are legendary due to Marr’s unique combination of diverse influences. Rourke’s bass lines complement Marr’s lines so well and add the cherry on top while Joyce’s impeccable timing and well-timed fills bring it all together like a delicious vegan sandwich.
Why the song "accept yourself" is so underrated ?? There are only just a few videos and even in UA-cam there is only the David Jensen session version why ??
All youve done Is prove the genious of Moz AND Marr 50 AND 50 per cent of quality , 25 everyone member of. The genious of all Is magic AND strong influence today The magistral AND free voice of Moz AND all Thanks ya true fan man
How are they underrated? Have you read the comments on any smiths video? They’re practically gods according to their fan base. Really is a turn off. They’re just an awesome band and nothing more. The idolatry around this band is gross.

Yep. That's what Marr said in an extended interview with two British journalists last year. I just saw it last week; you might want to hunt it down.
do you know the name @@allancerf9038
I’ve just learnt barbarism begins at home. What a brilliant bass line
andy is one of the best bassists of all time. rip to a goat
Headmaster ritual is a classic...
So glad the headmaster ritual made the list. Such a great riff. You nailed it
Thanks man! I need to do a cover of it soon!
It'll never cease to amaze me the kind of stuff Marr was able to come up with, like it's honestly amazing and the dude is just an absolute beast of a guitarist in general
Charming man has one the coolest guitar lines I've ever seen, it's so well constructed and catchy. Great performance mate btw.
Dude was like 18 or 19 when he wrote these songs. So ridiculous.

Fantastic playing. What I loved about The Smiths is that they didn’t sound like anything else we were hearing at the time. Outside of a bit of rockabilly, it was hard to tell where Marr’s influences even came from.
In an interview of over an hour I saw last week with two British journalists he mentions Chet Atkins, and especially Pete Townshend.
They sounded like and were compared to the Byrds lots back then. No one since really "sounds like the smiths" is proof enough of greatness.
Marr's influences are wide and broad it's so difficult to narrow it down. That was my reaction when I first heard "The Headmaster Ritual" into.

Some Girls is the best imo
@@keysersoze657100% agree
6:15 This will always be my absolute favorite riff of any Smiths song, Marr is a BEAST! 🤘🏻💯🔥
I thought it was Some Girls are Bigger than others
@@eapv2012 And that too! They do sound like they came from the same cloth ain't it?

Marr is his own genre.
Absolutely the smiths members are nothing without each other
Fair enough. However, Viva Hate and Vauxhall and I are great releases by Morrissey. Even You Are The Quarry is quite good.
Speak for yourself mate. today I listened to Strangeways in the car and about 2 hours of Morrissey solo work when I got home.
Really great work. Even though there's a new batch of 16 year olds discovering the Smiths every year there's a reason you never hear their songs being covered by those kids first bands.
The Smiths had the most beautiful guitar riffs ever. Johnny Marr does such a brilliant job playing them 🎸👏
Do John Squire next please!
Really cool thank you so much. I recommend learning Girl Afraid and Barbarism begins at home.
We are always on the same wavelength it’s crazy. Been doing a deep dive into Smiths lately. Marr is a legend
That wonderfully played set begs for an encore: Girl A-fraid! Girl A-fraid! Girl A-fraid! (cue crowd roar)
Great job. I love those riffs, songs and the unique Marr sound.
how great is johnny marr?! epic stuff mate, thanks!
40 years on and they still sound totally unique.
Never fully appreciated how beautiful the there is a light riff is till now
Haven’t listened to Marr in a long time this feels so good !
Probably my favourite guitarist ever, Johnny Fuckin Marr
There are many tracks and actual different guitars with different tunings on the studio version, like the Rickenbacker with nashville tuning and stuff. It's hard to get the riffs to sound close. You did a great job!
Johnny Marr es un genial guitarrista, lleno de creatividad y fineza, el riff de The Headmaster ritual me parece increíble, muy buen video amigo

The headmaster ritual really amazed me!
Thank you for these videos, Harry, they increase my inspiration so much!
Beautifully played ! The ultimate Johnny Marr riff for me is "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others", followed by "The Headmaster Ritual".
Awesome job🌟🎸 personally i would have included Some girls are bigger…. Ive just about got it down after many attempts ☺️ - one of my fav JM pieces
Great idea and wonderful playing.
Lovely playing. Really capture the feel of the master.
Liked & Subcribed!
Beautiful & amazing guitar tone & playing!
So clean & jangly!
Just wow!
Rick Beato needs to do a Top 10 list of songs by The Smiths MACHT SCHNELL!!!!!
Fabulous work. The list is terrific. I'd have put "Some Girls are Bigger Than Others". I think it's his greatest work.
The tremolo rate on how soon is now is so hard to find because it changes throughout the song
I think it's 2 amps at different tremolo speeds on the original isn't it?
How tf did he come up with these fucken genius
Barbarism begins at home is his best riff imo
I ❤️ THE SMITHS. By the way SMITHS is one of the most important part of my Music DNA. THANKS A LOT
Why the song "accept yourself" is so underrated ?? There are only just a few videos and even in UA-cam there is only the David Jensen session version why ??
I’ve heard versions of HSIN without the slide and found them wanting. Yours was great
Awesome Guitar Chops. Thank you for sharing

Great vid! All true Smiths and Marr fans know ‘Girl Afraid’ is THE riff.
But no one besides Johnny can play it. ❤
Agreed - such a great song but is very underrated.
No, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Suffer Little Children are
Beautifully covered Sir!
Headmasters is the most beautiful thing on planet earth
I think the best riff is the barbarism begins at home
Masterful performance. Long live The Smiths 💙❤️ 🌷
Ohhhh thanks for stop me if you heard this one before! ❤
Headmaster is the master of them all!
First two you played - but the rest are also very close to the top two. (Top two are of course, This Charming Man, How Soon Is Now.)
great selection man
Nice! you just haven't earned it yet baby should be at that list. The chorus is so sweet
So good to hear the riffs without Morrissey whining. They are all good, but How Soon is Now is still my favourite.
nice picks, i would add sweet and tender hooligan
Seriously great playing there mate
One of the most influential guitar players ever
You owe me "some girls are bigger than others" nice job by the way
I think I counted nine but great video, you play very well
Question: Are The Smiths the most underrated band of all time?
How are they underrated? Have you read the comments on any smiths video? They’re practically gods according to their fan base. Really is a turn off. They’re just an awesome band and nothing more. The idolatry around this band is gross.
Brilliant! Well done!
That is a great list but missing Still Ill.
a little overdrive on What Difference Does It Make? and The Headmaster Ritual would’ve been great, but all in all, fantastic playing.
I think what was written and performed here is far.more.impressive than any "shredding" guitarist or jazz artist playing a million notes.
All of them. but I think my favorite is Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others.
Girl afraid gotta be #1 tbh
You forgot "girl afraid"... Best riff ever. :(
FANTASTIC !!
Please do a full headmasters ritual cover, my favorite smiths song!
Good work. Gute Arbeit.🥰😘

All these players/bands began to change up the pop music sound from blues to something else. Like the Police, U2, and the Smiths.
Johny Marr era bucha mano, uma fábrica de riff

Girl afraid deserved to be on this list
