I tend to agree with you. Not a fan of the caps, but I do agree with the sentiment. Good stuff is good stuff. And the end user buys and keeps through a couple cycles of escalating prices.
The good 90s inserts have been AWOL for a while and it's getting tougher to find them at my local shows here. All I see is freshly pulled ultra modern in masses and people flip out when you bring a nice older card, as in a 90s serial numbered card of a goat. And you best believe it has a premium if it's avaliable at all. But that's just my local observations. I'm definitely not a whale in this hobby.
This is a great point. We already know who all the great players from the 80s and 90s are. Their inserts and base cards should be a stable, blue chip kind of product. Be
I remember buying a 89-90 Hoops set for a mere $3 around 15 years ago. And I did my Frank Thomas insert binge the previous decade when the prices were reasonable. Now those cards are just sitting there.
When the dust settles amid the increased magnification on the MJ Star Cards, the Hobby and the collecting world will view the Jordan Star Cards like they view the 51 Bowman Mantle. Yes, the 51 Bowman Mantle is the true Mantle RC, just like thr 85 Star is Jordan's. But the Hobby has deemed the 52 Topps Mantle as THE Iconic RC card of Mantle, and the Hobby will view the 86 Fleer as THE Iconic Jordan RC. Of course there will always be a group that will place the Star Card above the Fleer, just like there is a group that places the Bowman Mantle over the Topps Mantle. No one is right or wrong. it's all preference and both Cards are fantastic. But universally, the 86 Fleer will always and remain the iconic Jordan Rc just like the 52 Topps has and will always be Mantles Iconic RC.
he may wanna circle back to his "I let my family down with my card addiction" video from a year and a half ago. Tens of thousands of dollars in cardboard ain't gonna feed your kids when the economy implodes. I dont think hes rich, I think he just wants to collect cards like he is.
I collect Alex Rodriguez. I have a few very low numbered 90's inserts. Some have not been publicly sold/traded in 15-20 years. Other collectors have ones that were only sold once and will stay with them forever. It makes for a very boring part of the hobby when you can maybe find one or two every few years. On the other hand, the lower tier cards can look very good and are fun pick ups. My favorites is the 1997 Pacific Fireworks. Finest
I’ve been buying a lot of numbered baseball cards from the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. They’re still pretty cheap as compared to their basketball counterparts
The recession started a while back but layoffs just started spiking because the current administration held back the damage as long as it could with certain actions. Layoffs will be rising significantly through the remainder of this year and by early next year we will see prices on a lot of things falling fast. Collectibles is one market that will for sure be taking a huge hit.
lol I used to be like this. Felt great to grow up and leave the perma-bear crowd, while those with the biggest megaphones quietly got rich off everything they chastise. Facts are the cards he’s mentioning are still going up in price. This is no different than gold pundits who shit on crypto and Bitcoin for the last decade, yet made their clients very little money, while those clients sat on the sidelines during the good times.
You're right on the Jordan cards and the levels. You're better off buying into the Jordan levels ala The MJ Hierarchy Project/Poster (cardboard cajun). I believe 90s inserts and MJ specfic cards will continue to go higher and higher. As people realize how unique and how artistic these 90s inserts truly are. They're just drying up everywhere, and it's spilling into every sport/superstar from the 90s.
Interesting take on the top tier non goat players, versus a 6th or 7th best goat player card, thanks for sharing. On a side note I’ve been stocking up on 90s #’d cards for baseball. Seems like less and less are available

Great advice instead of wasting money on packs just get the best raw or graded card you can comfortably afford and in the end you'll come out happier and a winner for each personal collection , example buying raw Jordan's for cheap then send it to PSA and hope for 9 or 10
I've always been highend. Now going for players on signed rookie cards! Carlos Delgado and Alfonso Soriano are some of the key guys I'm going after for baseball.
100% agree with this. I started collecting again in 2021. I ripped a ton and graded a bunch as well. About 6 months ago I decided it was time to consolidate and add long term hold type cards. Great video Dustin!
They said this about housing and the stock market for last 15 years now. The last chance to get in may be now, as consolidation is happening in the vintage/modern (not ultra-modern) card market.
90s inserts are becoming crazy expensive, but I feel early 2000s have not gotten any love. Baseball collector and you can find all time fan favorites super cheap like Troy Tulowitzki, Nomar Garciaparra, etc. Not HOFers but great careers.
My dad PC's nomar. Been his favorite player since 97......nomar prices are on par or higher than alot of hall of Famers. Why? Donf know, but hes must certainly not on the cheap side.
In college I had a friend who had the Jordan Star 101 in the sealed bag. He sold it for $800 to buy an engagement ring for his fiancé when the graduated. I hope she was worth it. 😂
This is such a great point - and I was wondering when it would start happening. Big cards are finding long-term homes. Even with my non-GOAT PC, I see way less of what I would consider premium cards surfacing on eBay each week/month. If this trend continues - low pop vintage/modern stuff will push much higher, while ultra modern continues to fall off.

It’s happening for sure even in smaller collecting spaces like soccer. Only got one card from the national after consolidating and it was a messi 71bis rookie psa 8.
