I've been putting money into WNBA Goat Rookies from late 90s early 2000s like Sue Bird, Taurasi, Catchings, Leslie etc... Those early Pinnacle and Fleer Ultra sets were definitely printed less than today's and could actually deliver some scarcity/collectiblility in the future. If the Caitlyn Clarke craze adds eyeballs to the WNBA, hopefully these early greats will garner more attention from the hobby. What do you think of my strategy (as an "investment")?
Same here. I did a day trip to attend on Thursday and couldn’t believe how packed it was. I went in looking for a few specific modern cards to make progress on a couple rainbows but didn’t find anything. So much vintage and over priced stuff. Not many dealers wanting to make trades. So many unorganized boxes. I only gave my time to tables with boxes sorted by team. Went in with a $500ish budget and I left with $499 of that budget intact. Only found 1 card I was actually looking for in a dollar bin. Overall fun but it’s good that I didn’t go in with high expectations
You speak for 98% of us my friend. I’m in the same boat. I love to collect cards that I like. I collect hockey and baseball cards. It’s refreshing to see a channel of an everyday collector.
Good video and take on the National - thanks for sharing. It’s interesting to hear different perspectives, particularly from different age groups I think. I have been to the National only once, I found it slightly overwhelming but it strikes me as something that can be enjoyed a lot of different ways. Good luck with your collection and your channel.
Well said. It is time for collectors to have a voice. Very few people can afford these 4-6 figure cards. Yet they have the loudest voice. Your transparency is a breathe of fresh air 👍🏼
Good honest video. I have been collecting on and off for many years . Super high prices and fancy slabs and grades not good for the hobby long term. I enjoy going through the dollar boxes for vintage baseball and football cards.
THANK YOU for the more realistic prospective. Yes, I like to see what others purchased but I cant spend thousands on cards and I would think most people cant either.
I’ve never been a high end collector. I enjoy collecting rainbow parallels of a certain player and just small insert sets in general. Thanks for your average joe perspective. 😀 it’s reassuring .
It was my virgin run to nationals im just a dude 52 y/o. First off tons of walking lol. But i thought it was overwhelming but in a good way had a great time. Bought some chrome blasters thats it fun time.
This is a very good perspective. I am a local, so I was able to get out to the National 3 different days. Agree wholeheartedly. Some of us who collect can't afford grails. So you kinda have to pick your spots. I'm not sure The National works in that regard. However, seeing items you rarely see never gets old. And there's nothing wrong with a few reasonably priced pickups. That doesn't get mentioned enough in the recaps.
I went when it was in AC. Made the mistake of going on Sunday. Instead of finding deals from vendors who didn't want to have to pack up their cards I found empty tables where dealers had already packed up their cards. Like you said, more of a museum experience. My only purchase was Series 1,2,3 boxes of Topps Big Baseball for $40. I spent more on gas getting there and back.
@@mrechannel2023 I went to AC as well. Definitely more of the experience for an “average” collector but hope you pulled something good out of those boxes!
You make a good point about what normal really is for the hobby. The vast majority of collectors are just schlubs out there buying cards because they like it, not multi-thousand spenders who just drop cash they don't need.
Great video. I was able to get some great deals on some of my dream cards but I def had to have a p,an, hustle when I was there and be willing to pivot when things weren’t going perfectly. Overall I had a great time and except for those who complain about crowds in an event that’s crowded everyone i saw had a great time too.
I saw people dish out thousands for cards . I would never do that , you could find a lot of nice cards for 5 To 10 bucks or even less. Every single dealer dropped the price if you picked up a few cards. Was a great show .
I agree on the UFC! I emailed the ufc cardfather before to confirm he was going to be there and he said he couldn't get a table. I found one dollar box of UFC stuff... I was also shopping vintage baseball so there was zero tables with both. I might have missed a bit but thats my favorite. Submitting feedback that they try and get some UFC dealers in there. I had no other complaints.... Everyone complained about traffic which was fine with me, I used an actual map and found a direct easy way in and I never had to wait in any traffic.
