Growing up we ate "Pink Stuff" which is very similar to Ambrosia salad, it has the fruit cocktail and whipped cream but also cottage cheese (I know sounds gross but it blends in well so it just softens the sweetness instead of adding flavor) and a jello packet...strawberry which when mixed with the white makes it a lovely shade of pink hence the name.

Theres a channel (or there was) on YT with a very old lady in her 90's cooking depression era food. She sadly passed away some years ago, after her young relative made all the videos. She cooked the dishes exactly how she did 70 years earlier, and explains why they ate it and how often. It was super interesting. A lot of them didn't look so bad! Healthy, at least. If not ... filling.

We still eat ambrosia salad, but our family called pink stuff. Its one of my favorite recipes my dad gave me. He made it a little differently buy using strawberry jello pack mix it will mandarin oranges you fold in the whip cream and add everything else. A family favorite.
I grew up with ambrosia salad as part of my school lunches as well as pot lucks. Disregard the nuts (allergic) and I can eat it anytime anywhere. We still made it up until 2014 for family get togethers with a modern twist on it (like strawberries).
7:19 reaction was priceless lol My family (extended included) holiday dinners have always served ambrosia salad even to this day and I love love love it! I didn't realize it's an odd dish to make until I found this video XD
in the south we still eat ambrosia salad typically around thanksgiving or christmas. it's also served at a lot of southern buffets! the only difference I've noticed is that we don't put walnuts or coconut in it, and marshmallows on occasion.
Food for thought... You're suppose to remove the red rim from the sausage before you stack them... The jello is supposed to be the savory sort, not sweet. Even if it says lime for flavor. It sounds weird, but gelatin is basically tasteless, so you can twist it any way you like. It's not "small percentage, who still eat it" either. It's been around since pretty much start of humanity in north, so you see it everywhere, but you just don't call it jello. Meat jello, or headcheese (I think it was that, can't recall right) is the savory one. Still good, as long as you know what you're doing.
We still eat it and love it in my country, it is widely available in stores and my grandma actually still makes it herself. When you do it the right way, you don't even need the extra gelatine, when boiling the pigs legs, the bones and cartilage help make the jelly and then you add the legs meat chunks into the mix. Takes quite a lot of time, but it is delicious! I like to eat it with a side of horseraddish, my father likes to eat his with vinegar. We call it sült, the russians i think call it холодец.
I love everything about this video from the video itself to the cute dishes you use to... well, you! keep doing what you love on this channel cuz you are amazing at it!
Okay, I’m old, and do remember these recipes. Lots of them were the promotional recipe on the back of the box, or presented in a magazine advertisement. But often, our moms would say “that sounds terrible” or “who would eat that?” But Ambrosia Salad, made with fresh fruit and lots of coconut was an Easter meal staple for years and years!
It's so weird to heard that ambrosia salad is considered a weird food no one makes anymore. I grew up eating that at family pot lucks and get togethers. It's awesome that you got to try it.

brittany broski?
Growing up we ate "Pink Stuff" which is very similar to Ambrosia salad, it has the fruit cocktail and whipped cream but also cottage cheese (I know sounds gross but it blends in well so it just softens the sweetness instead of adding flavor) and a jello packet...strawberry which when mixed with the white makes it a lovely shade of pink hence the name.
That bologna cake makes me want to cry and run to my mom...
I’m 22
my grandma taught all my aunts and my mom how to make ambrosia salad, for me its a dish that brings up fond memories when I was a kid in the early 90s
4:43 kombucha girl moment 😂
My family makes ambrosia salad every year for Thanksgiving it was one of my Grandma's favorites she made it every year and after she passed 15 years ago we still make it to get the memory of her and we really enjoy it
“It tastes like feet” - Ross Geller 😂 hahah I’m dead.
please could you try marilyn monroes snacks and foods she made? she liked things like pasta with milk and fried fruits etc as snacks, i’d love to see them ahah 💗 great video 💞✨🥺
My mom makes the fruit one for holidays/picnics. It’s good!
My grandmother used to make the Ambrosia salad all the time, yet she called it Watergate salad and it was a bit different. She would add whipped cream, walnuts, marshmellows, a whole can (with the juice) of pineapple, and a pack of pistachio pudding. It was beautifully sweet and I loved it growing up
The ambrosia salad looks delicious!
Can I just ask - what lipstick are you wearing? That colour is gorgeous on you!! 😍😍
WHY IS SHE NOT TAKING THE RED THINGS OFF. OMG
she actually did.. she mentioned it in her pinned comment. but i was saying the same thing and waiting for her to bite into that plastic.
Actually, you can see it when she cuts the slice.
I was wondering that too. Pissed me off.
Brian homie no they’re still on there.
how did she cut a slice to smoothly and eat it?
I love this idea ! Keep up the wonderful content!!!
I've tried ambrosia salad before at my church's fish suppers, my sister, my grandmother, and I love it.
I am in school and not supposed to watch this but I really had to!!! This is so amazing and so are you!
my relatives would make ambrosia salad whenever we got together when in was a kid! i dont live there anymore but i still love it its a very good treat!
Jessica can you film a tutorial on how to achieve marilyns makeup look and also hair tutorial on the look you had in the video trying on cheap princess dresses? Please 🙏🏼❤️✨🌸💓
If not ... filling.
Hey Jessica have you ever thought of doing a I Love Lucy meal&desert inspirational video? So Cute, 1st meal looks good! 2nd one I hope your okay from that! 3rd looks appetizing! Fun video very interesting!❤️
I laughed so hard when she mentioned the ceviche😅 her Latina side really showed 🤣👌🏼❣️
And the last one, I have an uncle that makes it every year around Christmas time😍👌🏼 it’s the best.!!!
When ever I asked what was for dinner when I was a kid, my parents always said shit on a shingle. I survived to this day.
We still eat ambrosia salad, but our family called pink stuff. Its one of my favorite recipes my dad gave me. He made it a little differently buy using strawberry jello pack mix it will mandarin oranges you fold in the whip cream and add everything else. A family favorite.
Ambrosia Salad is a holiday time stable for my family❤️
I was literally thinking about edward scissorhands when you were making the ambrosia 😂🤍
I love it how she just puts two slices of ham and says: "now that's high enough for meee..."😂
This is the best ambrosia salad recipe
When someone asks me how's the food 4:42
I grew up with ambrosia salad as part of my school lunches as well as pot lucks. Disregard the nuts (allergic) and I can eat it anytime anywhere. We still made it up until 2014 for family get togethers with a modern twist on it (like strawberries).
6:34 🤢 oooh I can’t with tuna you are a tough one tryin that 💩
ikrr
7:19 reaction was priceless lol My family (extended included) holiday dinners have always served ambrosia salad even to this day and I love love love it! I didn't realize it's an odd dish to make until I found this video XD
Seems like ambrosia salad has made a comeback, I've seen it at many potlucks and events that I've attended
in the south we still eat ambrosia salad typically around thanksgiving or christmas. it's also served at a lot of southern buffets! the only difference I've noticed is that we don't put walnuts or coconut in it, and marshmallows on occasion.
Yo I love her outfit and hair style it’s so cute and vintage 🤩 😯
Both of my grandma's made Ambrosia salad for holiday meals. It was a holiday staple for decades in our family.
The jello one looks like some food from an alien planet 😂
Tbh it’s a Chinese delicacy to have pork jelly, it’s a savoury agar with a slice of braised pork in each slice :P tastes pretty cool actually
I've never wanted to be friends with somebody more in my life.
Okay, I’m old, and do remember these recipes. Lots of them were the promotional recipe on the back of the box, or presented in a magazine advertisement. But often, our moms would say “that sounds terrible” or “who would eat that?”
But Ambrosia Salad, made with fresh fruit and lots of coconut was an Easter meal staple for years and years!
disney needs to let you in a live action disney movie
Ambrosia salad is some of the best tasting jazz I have ever had at a church dinner.
*Pours the tuna jello out
me: *violently gags
thats not a sweet dish though
It's so weird to heard that ambrosia salad is considered a weird food no one makes anymore. I grew up eating that at family pot lucks and get togethers. It's awesome that you got to try it.
Jess: goes to puke
Me: gets a Lysol ad😂😂❤️
Bruh I got a pregnancy test ad. 😳
I got perfect cream ad when she was putting the cheese cream
I hate ads, OMG. Such a counter intuitive RUDE waste of time.
The last one is honestly the only one I like! I'm 27 and I make it for Christmas with chopped up snickers in it and caramel chunks!
