I love how passionate you are with these things Jess! You make a great point on fantasizing on wanting to time travel/live in a certain era. When I watch some of your past decades videos it makes me visualize what it would be like to live in that era based on the highlights we know from it. Of course there's ups and downs from every era. Like I would never want to live in the 30s during the Great Depression *shudders*. But when I visualize myself in a certain era I think of how can I apply some of the wholesome and wonderful things that were apart of it. Like in this video we saw ways school kids played and had fun. Nowadays we're so dependent on our technology that I doubt we'd see kids outside their homes playing Ring Around The Rosy but instead indoors playing Minecraft or something. Of course I'm guilty of that too and I envy the past that I wish somethings were simpler still in the present. That's what I think of when I watch your videos. I’m such an idiot. A year ago I was a library TA and I remember always being fascinated by the old yearbooks our librarian would keep every year since the late 50’s. She had many of them until she said she was putting most of them in the “storage” and put them in boxes along with other books and I stole one that was from the 60’s because I really wanted to keep it but put it back because I never steal and felt guilty. but then I realized she wrote on every single box “discard” meaning they were most likely thrown away😭😭😭😭
Amy, it's possible those yearbooks found a new home. "Discard" books sometimes end up in remainder bookstores or library "25-cent-a-book" sales. I have a number of books stamped "discard", so they wound up on my bookshelves instead of in the landfill. 🙂
I have a yearbook from 1927 and each senior student has a little paragraph about themselves, and it is really cute! I also have a yearbook from 1960s Alabama that has terrible things in it regarding racism. My 1927 and my other (four?) 1950s yearbooks all have some students of color in the class (although, I'm sure most sadly faced prejudice). I LOVE looking at old yearbooks, however - thank you for sharing this and informing many people who don't have access to these little glimpses into history.
I have family in that yearbook. Most lived up in the NGa mountains of Hiawassee and Young Harris. The move and shakers lived closer to Atlanta. Gainesville is about half way to Atlanta from Hiawassee. Great view of the past!
Went back to watch your videos that i’ve missed while cleaning .. and paused when I heard you say where i’m from!😂 I never went to that high school in particular but it’s right next to me :)
I saw the TikTok video that was similar to this one, and I am currently following you on that site. 'Course I'm also one of your new UA-cam subscribers, and I have the notifications turned on for both your channels, Jessie.
Thanks for the heart, Jess! And another thing, I also follow Traci Hines, Amber Arden, Sarah Ingle, and even Christy Carlson Romano on TikTok, and I have my own account there called @aren_tumamaitsten4. And, of course, I'm a subscriber on all their UA-cam channels. I tune in to each of their new videos, including yours. Plus, suppose you heard that Traci Hines turned 35 years old on May 26 last month? She was born on the same year as my oldest sister (think I may have brought this up earlier already, but I had to double check).
i'm always finding your content compelling. it's just interesting getting to know about stuff like this and reminiscing about how it was really like back then. especially the whole black and white era. you just always look like someone who traveled from that time and i love it lol.

florrie. i was watching while scrolling through comments and i didn’t mean i wanted to live in the 50’s i meant i like the aesthetic of it and it was beautiful back then as far as clothes and decor and stuff
@Lotte That's not what I meant. Obviously any good person would be against anything like that, but I try to focus on the positive, bright, and happy things about it. And yes, I know, they're still there and hard to ignore, but 2020 is also pretty terrible, but there have been great things about it too!
I felt so connected to them as you read the yearbook and writing in the back. Really makes you think that we aren't that different, and that the young person to which I connected was still there inside the older person they are (or, sadly, were) today.
Love this video, remember I ended up cleaning out the back room in my old high schools library and came upon all the old yearbooks. It was so cute looking back at the early 1960's yearbooks, loved the way they dressed and what clubs they had...:')
Well, look at it this way: it's not like the students were responsible for their school's or society's racial policies. They were just kids going to school - in that respect, their school experiences are as relatable as anyone else's. Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with enjoying the past. A lot of previous eras had great things about them - the aesthetics, the culture, the music, the fashion, the food - along with, yes, some really bad things, but so long as one acknowledges the latter, there's no point in letting them ruin all the rest for you. One should not consider the past a flawless wonderland, because it wasn't, but there's nothing wrong with enjoying its positive aspects, and bringing some of them into your own life.
Psycopathicus I agree. But I honestly wish the 40s-50s aesthetic would make a major comeback, and perhaps some of the social aspects as well. Like respecting elders more, manners, slightly more conservative.
@@reinal7896 Oh, absolutely. We are living in a crazy world right now, and one that has lost some good things. Obviously, a lot of great things have been brought into the world since the 'good old days', but there are definitely times when I look back at the parts of culture/philosophy/etc. that have shaped my life in positive ways, and I think 'dude, a good chunk of this stuff dates back to latest sometime in the '80's, and most of it considerably before that.' That makes you think.
@@reinal7896 Elders have to earn respect like everyone else. They are not special and do not get a free pass to talk trash without being called out. Exactly why I love the 21st century. And being conservative means being non-progressive. Humankind only thrives through progress.
I like to get a lot of old books, most of them are about my all time favourite TV show, Doctor Who and were published in the 1980's and 90's (although the programme itself first aired in 1963)
Think about it this way.... There has NEVER been a time on earth where their wasn't problems. There's always been wars, opressions, Injustice and evil. Always will be because the human heart has evil and without God, we can't change that. Take the good and leave the bad in the past where it belongs. So just dress the way you want and enjoy life the best you can.
Wow. Gainesville High School is in Hall County. I didn’t go to Gainesville High, but since I grew up in Braselton (Jackson County) I would always go to Gainesville every weekend with my family. It’s so cool to see a yearbook from a high school back in those days and from Georgia!
You can dress however you damn well please and not feel bad about a single thing, girl! Keep doing what you’re doing. You don’t need to answer to anyone.
Good video, very insightful! I was looking at a vintage yearbook on eBay today . The 50’s era depicted was so interesting when it comes to fashion. People dressed a lot more in solid colors, and no one in the photos is wearing T-shirts with logos and funny sayings on them. That became more common starting in the 1970s and 80s. Also, as I looked through the photos of the old yearbook I thought about the fact that they didn’t have social media, they didn’t have the Internet, such a different reality people were living then... In some ways I really envy them. When you have to walk across the school to use a payphone, sometimes you had to go into another place to get change so you’d have coins, and then you might have to wait to use the paper. People nowadays don’t even know what that is like, they would suffer from such inconvenience. Oh, by the way the old yearbook I was looking at was a 1954 Sahuaro yearbook for Arizona State College (Tempe). Pretty cool.
Could you do a video explaining on how to dress vintage/elegant with a school uniform Bc school starts in a month and I have a to wear a uniform. The uniform is a beige skirt, shorts, or pants along with a bright blue or red polo shirt and a school jacket, I really need your help!! Love you and your videos ❤️❤️
my school has been around since 1910 so during my breaks I’d go dig around the yearbooks and see how much has changed my fav year for them are definitely the 70s bc of how artsy and cool they are lol

Oof. I looked at a yearbook from the 60s at my high school once
Omgggg nooooo 😆
Amy, it's possible those yearbooks found a new home. "Discard" books sometimes end up in remainder bookstores or library "25-cent-a-book" sales. I have a number of books stamped "discard", so they wound up on my bookshelves instead of in the landfill. 🙂
Love your content. So fascinating. I love studying history and vintage things. There is a whole story behind these and I wonder what their life was.
My Grandparents met and fell in love in the 50s and there is just something so dreamy about that😍
You are so sweet! Objects hold energy so the reason why you're crying is because you're psychic. You are very special, keep up the great work!
“The mascot is a radiator” I literally had to cover my mouth so I didn’t spit my pepsi out. I didn’t expect that ya’ll 🤭
I believe “The Radiator” was the name of the school’s Yearbook, not the School’s mascot….
I think it was emotional for you because you’re reading people’s own memories and feelings. It’s amazing to experience that
My School Mascot is a Mustang (Horse) (In case people get confused with the car)... If anybody is curious which school I go to, it’s Dobson High
My middle school's mascot was a mustang
My schools mascot is a mustang too
My high school’s was a ram
Dobson high in Arizona?
Daisy Duck Yes lol
Their handwriting was so beautiful 😍
Thank you for answering the question at the end! I agree that acknowledging the history is so important when getting into vintage fashion 💕
Love what you said at the end, always vintage style not vintage values!💕
I have family in that yearbook. Most lived up in the NGa mountains of Hiawassee and Young Harris. The move and shakers lived closer to Atlanta. Gainesville is about half way to Atlanta from Hiawassee. Great view of the past!
Are they still alive? :o
I love that ending, it really is important to acknowledge a time period in every angle
She was born on the same year as my oldest sister (think I may have brought this up earlier already, but I had to double check).
i'm always finding your content compelling. it's just interesting getting to know about stuff like this and reminiscing about how it was really like back then. especially the whole black and white era. you just always look like someone who traveled from that time and i love it lol.
just found your channel im already Subscribed! I just want to say that you are so so beautiful and i love the 50's! (ever since i saw Grease!) I love you so much ❤❤❤💖💖💖 you're amazing!

I would LOVE to live in the 50's! It was such a beautiful time. The fashion, the style, the houses, EVERYTHING! ily jessica!
same. nobody likes the 50’s except me. they think it’s weird
Lotte i mean i don’t mean i’d wanna live there but i do think it’s beautiful
Jessica, literally in this video: Talks about racism, ask us to remember to not romanticise any period in history.
Y'all: This sign cannot stop me, because I cannot read. LMAO 😹
florrie. i was watching while scrolling through comments and i didn’t mean i wanted to live in the 50’s i meant i like the aesthetic of it and it was beautiful back then as far as clothes and decor and stuff
@Lotte That's not what I meant. Obviously any good person would be against anything like that, but I try to focus on the positive, bright, and happy things about it. And yes, I know, they're still there and hard to ignore, but 2020 is also pretty terrible, but there have been great things about it too!
George Mcfly!
I love your videos ❤️ you’re my favorite UA-camr 😭🥺
I came as soon as i saw the title OMG
Vintage style doesn't equal vintage values... I love the vintage aesthetic, but I definitely would not want to live in those times
I like the vintage buildings and architecture from the 50s-70s, but yeah that’s totally true
The 80s is my favorite era too! I would love to see more 80s content on your channel!
I ended up with a year book from the 50s or 60s after thinking it was a vintage coffee table-esque book at an estate sale! I love looking through it!
I ended up looking through a 60s yearbook with my friends once at my high school
You should have tried to look for Mary in the pictures I’m guessing her last name was Reece from the messages you read 🙃🙃
Their handwritings are so beautiful 😍😍
I felt so connected to them as you read the yearbook and writing in the back. Really makes you think that we aren't that different, and that the young person to which I connected was still there inside the older person they are (or, sadly, were) today.
High school kids are still pretty similar now, that’s kind of interesting
@@koolkitty108 yeah, so we're not as bad as people say😊
Sarah M some were, though
Love this video, remember I ended up cleaning out the back room in my old high schools library and came upon all the old yearbooks. It was so cute looking back at the early 1960's yearbooks, loved the way they dressed and what clubs they had...:')
I found one from the 60s at my high school, too! They had a concert band, and I saw some flute players (I’m a flute player now haha) there
Well, look at it this way: it's not like the students were responsible for their school's or society's racial policies.
Psycopathicus
I agree.
I would love to just be able to go back in time to see what it was really like. Nice piece of history you're sharing with 7
I like to get a lot of old books, most of them are about my all time favourite TV show, Doctor Who and were published in the 1980's and 90's (although the programme itself first aired in 1963)
U r a History Angel who knows everything about history and always exited to know something new😍😍😍😍😍
You reading to us like a teacher lol ps. Love your vids♡☆♡☆♡
Also, very insightful opinion at the end of the video, congrats!
Starting now, I'm gonna call you "Vintage Ariana Grande"... Sending you kiss from France🇫🇷🤣
YES!! I love that comparison
@@christinawatkinsyoutube 🤣🤣 me too
This was terrific!!!
Please do more of this!!!
😊😊❤️❤️
Think about it this way.... There has NEVER been a time on earth where their wasn't problems. There's always been wars, opressions, Injustice and evil. Always will be because the human heart has evil and without God, we can't change that. Take the good and leave the bad in the past where it belongs. So just dress the way you want and enjoy life the best you can.
This is beautiful I screenshotted this how wonderfully said
Exactly :)
*their colors are green and silver me:sounds like Slytherin
Wow. Gainesville High School is in Hall County. I didn’t go to Gainesville High, but since I grew up in Braselton (Jackson County) I would always go to Gainesville every weekend with my family. It’s so cool to see a yearbook from a high school back in those days and from Georgia!
I love your vintage content. I love time travel. Hope one day I get to travel through time. This video is amazing.
Their penmanship. 👌🏽
It's great to see you 💗
The penmanship of those notes at the end of the yearbook has me SWOONING
If your reading this here’s a 50s clothing box :)
Yay I have been wanting to see this!
Really appreciate you addressing that question at the end
I'm obsessed with your content! Old souls unite 💗
Oh my goodness!! I’ve done that! Also a really cool scrapbook of a road-trip in like the ‘70’s. …. I wonder where that is…..
Jessica you look SO much like Ariana Grande when she played Cat Valentine in Victorious lol I love it
yayyyyy your back! 💕
I like your channel Jessica. Keep up posting UA-cam videos
Idk why I started tearing up at the beginning too, maybe thinking about time and age 😅😥🙈
You can dress however you damn well please and not feel bad about a single thing, girl! Keep doing what you’re doing. You don’t need to answer to anyone.
Your hair is everything!!😍😍
You look (especially ur profile) and sound so much like Melanie Martinez. ur beautiful ur hair and ur style are everything💗
Love your look.I like the 50s era.
