This dress was iconic. It should’ve stayed on display. People are not supposed to wear historical clothing, it wasn’t made for today what with our perfumes and deodorants. I understand replicas, all for it; but if it’s a historical item it should’ve been off limits. Sigh it was so beautiful in it’s original condition

In case you didn't know, they had similar deodorants and perfumes then as well... this dress wasn't THAT long ago! 😆 I agree wearing the dress was a bad idea and yes, those things can be very harmful to clothing then and now.
The dress looked better on the mannequin than it did on Kim K.
I blame the museum but I DEFINITELY blame Kim as well. Any person with respect would’ve turned down wearing such a historical piece. She literally wore it for photo ops and an ego boost. So she could say she’s the only other person beside Marilyn to wear the dress. The fact that she had a replica that she ended up changing into after a few minutes is even more frustrating cause she should’ve just worn that instead of damaging the dress for no reason. She didn’t turn down the offer because she was the one to reach out to them to ask if she could wear it. Actually, she didn’t even reach out to them first she reached out to the auction place that auctioned it to Ripleys to be the middle man in helping to get her to be able to wear the dress. Initially, they said no and that they had a replica she could wear but Juliens Auctions said “Kim doesn’t do replica” and after a few meetings they gave in because Kim payed them well

They had to sew the dress onto Marilyn to even have it on her, and she couldn't move easily with it on. She wore it with no undergarments for it to be a skin-tight fit, which was also what made the dress such a statement for women to wear what they wanted to, and to weaponize women's bodies *for* women

I learned about this dress the day Kim decitade to wear it and after reading little bit my heart broke, it's so sad. And knowing Marilyn wanted it to be HERS, just HERS it gets me so angry.

It’s so disturbing to me and honestly at this point I don’t think Kim was a fan at all, she most likely just wanted to wear the worlds most expensive dress as a status thing and knew drama (publicity) would come along with the dress being a historic piece. I think it’s common sense to know such an aged piece will be extremely delicate and not fit to wear without ruining it, especially when it was made to fit one specific person and your body doesn’t match theirs AT ALL… it’s just all really sad.

Given how poorly it fit Kim, I'm tempted to be extremely petty and argue that with how much of the zipper had to be left open, the word "wear" might be too generous a description for her use of the dress.

It's amazing how Marilyn doesn't even seem to belong to herself, and can't be left to rest in peace. One of the reasons Marilyn Monroe is so prolific and iconic in our modern day media- even when she arguably wouldn't have been so popular in her day, is because of how her estate was handled after her death and even who owns her intellectual properties- Authentic Brands Group, and the Strasberg's capitalized on Marilyn, and a lot of us knew who Marilyn was even before we were exposed to her films because of these media companies. It's so disrespectful that a dress that Marilyn wanted only herself to wear- a dress that she herself was sewn into- has been tainted and devalued. Even the fact that a lock of Marilyn's hair was given as a gift is a disrespect to Marilyn's bodily autonomy. This is a big wtf. Kim basically destroyed a piece of history, but I suppose her narcissism probably told her that her wearing the dress would make it more valuable- and probably persuaded the archivists of the same- but all of us live in the real world, and in reality, the moment Kim put on that dress, it was devalued and destroyed.

I guess the way they treat history and make profits out of exhibitions didn't change very much since their beginnings as 'Ripley's Odditorium'. I'm wondering how they ever got people to think that an entertainment business like this has any right to be called a museum.
I didn't like the fact that Kim wore Marilyn's dress cuz her figure would never fit in it properly. There's a video of her trying to get in the dress and she couldn't. (That's why she had the white fluffy coat to cover her back cuz the zip wouldn't close). I never knew that Kim actually broke it. That's a piece of history from an iconic woman just being desecrated for a gala event (no offense to the Met Gala)
If Kim knew that the dress couldn't fit her, it wouldn't hurt her to have a dress specially made to look like Marilyn's so the dress wouldn't be ruined (to show that kim was inspired by Marilyn's iconic look).

IMO, the white gloves were security theatre. I watched another professional in the field of preservation say you wouldn't use white gloves because cotton gloves have their own fibers that can catch on the rhinestones and what not.

Very unintelligent and selfish choice from Kim Kardashian. In the future Marilyn will gain many more new fans and they deserve to see historical artifacts sadly now the dress is much more damaged.
The ones that don't think it's a big deal and say "it's just a dress" are obviously not Marilyn Monroe fans at all or they would understand why it's so upsetting. Marylin died several yrs before I was born but I'm still a huge fan.

The dress did absolutely NOTHING for Kim. Kim’s Mugler wet-look was one of my favorite met gala/red carpet looks of all time. So this is no hate on Kim at all. She looked washed out and the dress looked unremarkable. The saddest thing is that after Kim wore the dress it took on her shape. Marilyn’s imprint is gone forever.

I get a lot of ppl insinuating history doesn’t matter anymore. I always explain it to them, how would u like it if everyone in ur family just never thought of ur mother again after she passes. History is another way of remembering those that suffered, and because of them we now live in a better world and remembering those that brought positive change so that we can sustain it or improve so that that those who passed their efforts were not lost. When history is disrespected or forgotten, mistakes will happen and ppl like Putin take advantage of it.

Late to the party but I just found out that Kim wore ANOTHER one of Marilyn’s dresses that Marilyn wore to the Golden Globes in 1962. She changed into it after the Met Gala and posed in it with Marilyn’s actual Golden Globes award for Instagram to “channel in her inner Marilyn.” So infuriating that she thinks she’s entitled and has the “privilege”to treat historical artifacts as dress-up/ cosplay!

I watched a video by a person who restores and maintains historical fashion items and even if the dress hadn't been teared from the outside her sweat and body oils would've seeped through the inside and damaged it. I don't care about american politics tbh but it's the fact that a historical piece, that was then REPLICATED, had to be damaged just so that Kim could keep relevancy or something. idek the reason why this was done? PR? Like if she's that desperate for relevancy then she should just ask for a new season of kuwtk.

I’ve just found your channel and you speak so from the heart and bringing all the facts of this upsetting episode that is now history of what happened to Marilyn’s iconic dress, Kim is a wider heavier build in comparison and the dress shoulder straps were digging into her and when looking from the back the tension on them was causing the material to stretch so much it made tight folds as if you pull fabric it makes these folds when Marilyn wore it the straps fell down off her shoulders because she was a whole different body type. The dress was made to fit only her and KK should know all about couture as I’m sure she has many pieces made beautifully and I bet she would hate a personality less untalented women go in her cupboards and squeeze into her best dresses and ruin them. She did know what she was doing and it is obvious she had no care let alone respect for this beautiful dress. Unforgivable and plain old stupid.

I was surprised that they would loan out something like that dress. Fabric loses its strength and can easily tear. As you said, it is irreplaceable. It is insane to do things like that. On a different topic, when will we see the Jessica Vill Collection? Since you are into history and love old designs, why not create styles with modern fabrics and release them to the public if you can get a manufacturer to work with you. What I never understood was why they allowed Kim to wear Marilyn's dress in the first place, considering the *major* difference in their body types and the historical importance of the dress. Kim had the money and people to make a replicated dress, so it doesn't make since why she had to get Marilyn's *exact* dress that hadn't been worn since Marilyn herself. Truthfully, Kim and the operators of the museum whom had the dress are 100% to blame. I've been angry about this since I read the articles and seen the photos about the now damaged dress, but I'm more angry that the museum is refusing to take responsibility for their carelessness and lying about the dress's original condition. I agree with you 100% because like you said Marilyn Monroe didn't ask for the media persona she was manipulated/forced into playing. And not only that when someone is deceased, they definitely deserve respect and for someone to treat her historical garments like that is very disrespectful. Not only do I agree with you, but I am angry with you about this because Marilyn Monroe is one of my lost favorite icons to watch and was my late grandma's too. That is something we used to really bond over and made memories over was watching some of Marilyn Monroe's classics and talking about how much we admired her. It truly breaks my heart to see this disrespect going on.

The dress is a statement and has the title of the most expensive dress ever to date in auction to be sold, I think in terms of reputation, it's doing real fine on it's own. If the youngsters nowadays doesn't know the dress prior, then that's on them for sleeping thru their history lessons then.
