Yeah, it started off as very colonial because most of the early engineers of each state's railway came from either Englan, Scotland or Ireland however as time went on Australian railways, particularly the SAR gained American influence from an American commisioner by the same of William Webb in the 1920s. After he introduced American style locos and rollingstock to the SAR, other states gained inspiration for their own railways. From that, it has just progressed with a decent mix of US and UK which makes up our railways.
My favorite ones here are the Adelaide Metro's K2, the RVB's, the S3L, the RS5Ts and S5Ts starting at 0:58, K3LA, Nathan P-horns, the K5UL-AU-LS, and quite a few of the MKT-75s, especially on NR75 and the NR-class at 3:24, NR98, and the WABCo AA2 on railcar 257.
Good choices, I prefer the S5T's and RS5T's myself, however I wish Nathan M5's were more common in Australia, since they are only on the NSWGR 40 class, which I have not seen yet.
Great video! My most favourite horns would be the C44ACI's K5UL-AU-LS and the FQ/V horns. The Leslie S5T are good sounding horns but are a little bit quiet when not used on full blast.
Not exactly, Freightliner no longer operates in Australia and the locos are now owned by One Rail (formerly Genesee and Wyoming) but retain the old liveries still.
I believe you are thinking of the C44aci. Their design is based off of the NR class. Look up Pacific National 93 class or Pacific national 9304. Without looking at the number, you would guess it to be an NR class!
They are referring to the horn. The Nathan K5UL-AU-LS’ tuning is loosely based off the Kockum Sonics MKT-75 5 chimes fitted to the NR’s. This tuning request was made by UGL Goninan. There were 2 prototype K5UL-AU-LS made before production.
The SAR used long short long for crossings, one toot for forwards followed by a second right of way blast, then two toots (sometimes 3 depending on the driver) is used for reverse. Heritage railways still use these whistle patterns but on the mainline these days anything goes as there isnt a honking pattern that need to be followed

Never heard of a tinny prime 990. I also like the red hen 🟥 🐔
The Leslie S3L, S5T and RS5T and

The K5UL-AU-LS has got to be the loudest horn in Australia.
Leslie 5 chimes are louder. Unfortunately they’re all fed with small air hoses here so you’ll never hear one at full power.
I would say my favourite's are 1:24 , 1:26 and 3:00 to 3:10 and lucky last 3:11 to 3:18
A lot for American air horn, cool. I love Australian's railway because it is a mix between American and British railway trends.

I heard a horn from the whistle compilation at newport workshops and it was at the start of the VR 5 chime bit

In my opinion NR75 has the best sounding horn out of all the NRs. Awesome compilation too and congrats on 200 subs (230 now!)
I'd say NR109 does personally! Also, thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video!
I think NR49
I used to get confused with K5UL and K5LA, they are so different though. BTW I like the rs3l and a+b
The K5LA is the American version and the K5UL is the low clearance and quieter Aussie version
1:31 I don't think that's a K5L. Sounds more like a Nathan P5A with a mixed casting.

I'm shocked to see an RDC on Australian rails.
Comrails imported 3 RDCs and the NSW railways had 5 modified ones built by Comeng
Pacific national 8050's horn is never blown fully, if they blow the horn it's always the high two notes, unlike G530's horn. do u know why?
